View Full Version : The Villages Needs A Lazy River Pool Ride

The Villages has many things to offer. But, there is one thing that would really stand out! And, that would be a lazy river ride like you see when your staying at the hotels in Orlando. The First Responders recreation center has 20 acres. This site would have been perfect for that. They have the room, even though they've just about completed this new site. Maybe a future possibility?
There is also much more building to come in the new area south of 44. Maybe they can look into this?

There’s a company who was going to build a huge water park/water beach type thing around the Villages. It was in the papers about 18 months ago ad discussed on here, but I can’t find the details.

We asked for a lazy river at the first responders site, we petition for it but we’re turned down. They asked what we wanted but they already knew what they were putting there so nothing changed.

As nice as that might sound to some, I don’t see how it could ever make sense for TV.

The logistics could never work. The ratio of people to the ride would be so out of whack there would be knock-down-drag-outs all the time.

Villagers get upset when they have to wait in line at the grocery store. (I personally just use the wait time to read the tabloids that I would never buy.)

Such a ride would come with liability potential, too. Several years ago, the developer shut down the Lifelong Learning College that had classes under the umbrella of TV. Because of a threat of a lawsuit, the developer just slammed the door on what was once important to a lot of Villagers — including me.

Sorry — don’t think a lazy river is a realistic hope.

Sorry, putt and play or pitch and play what ever way more important. They done survey, I like to know how many voted for the 100 grand 4 platform tennis? This was topic during the initial planning stage, but I don’t remember it being in the questionnaire? IMO bottom line they put what they wanted. Responder’s rec center due to open around 3 week in July. Outside grounds completely done.

You nailed it Boomer. For those that do not know just one man (a retired attorney) got our Lifelong Learning College shut down (I believe he almost got lynched). Can you imagine what would happen if someone's grandchild had an accident on a Lazy River Ride? Also, if there was money in a Lazy River Ride I think an outsider wuld have built one on the outside of TV.

So with many saying not needed that would mean less of a line. When we go to water parks my wife and I only do the lazy river.

The new rec center was suppose to have a zero entry pool as well but the powers to be over road the vote and we are not getting it.

A lazy river sounds great but you need many (over 20) powerful pumps to handle the flow and you will need more than just a regular pool guy to handle the maintenance. The costs are astronomical. It works in commercial establishments because they have their own in house maintenance persons handle 15-30 rides on a daily basis

Wow, we have numerous discussions on getting necessary repairs done around here. Cost for a lazy river would be out of sight and future costs will also be out of sight. Suggest jumping in your car and float down one of numerous spring fed rivers around here. No infrastructure needed and they are natural. Only downside is that they are long(3-4 hours) in a tube.

The concept discussed in related thread that Bilyclub linked to in his Post #17 is tried and true.

I swam, as a kid, in a lagoon heated by discharged water from a steam turbine plant. It was essentially a monetized heatsink - and that was in the '70's!! It is still operational today, link below:

I would welcome a proper "raised floor" ballroom either the same size as or larger than the floor at the Everglades RRC, Eisenhower RRC, etc., or the Hacienda. I <know> that I am not alone in this thinking as dancers frequently lament the lack of such a venue.

While I am making this wish, I would ask for two walls of the aforementioned "wished for" ballroom to have mirrored walls (which may be covered with draw curtains [or something equivalent]). As it would please all of the many dancers, might we allow the floor to have space around it for tables and chairs (so that the tables and chairs do not infringe on the wished for floor).

The Villages and its residents deserve a true venue at which to experience proper, formal gatherings.

It's pretty simple to get it to work. Say the lazy river is 1/2 mile long as it winds itself around the large parcel of land. After one rotation you would get off if someone is waiting for a tube. If not you just continue on for another rotation. This is how they work in other places.

Lottoguy

Your talking about a wave pool. This is a lazy river that just has a small current to move your inner tube down the "river".

No the biggest problem would not be sanitation. We do have over 110 pools here right? No, the biggest problems would be its huge popularity and outsiders trying to get in.

No the downside to your suggestion is the distance to get there. The cold water in those streams and the alligators along the way. A small lazy river for seniors with a slight current connected to a swimming pool is very doable.
