I am thinking about getting an ipod touch and wondered how others who have one, are finding them. What are the pros and cons? Our city up north is WIFI'd so that won't be an issue. Thanks for any info.

I bought one about 2 months before the latest model came out.

Since we already have a cell phone that we only use occasionally, I did not want to buy an IPhone and the IPod Touch does all I wanted.

Had some problem setting up the synching with my computer's Outlook Calendar, but once that got done we have enjoyed the IPod Touch and the ability to download many of our CD's to it for listening in car on long trips. Also downloaded an audio book from Library which we listened to on recent trip.

I find the ease to connect to a Wi-Fi in all the hotels we stayed at to be great for emails and with my wife in LRMC now, we have been able to use hospital's Wi-Fi. The new model has a camera which would have been nice, but my 32 Gig older model cost quite a bit less than newest model. So, no regrets.

I bought mine from Amazon.com

I just bought the latest version of the Ipod Touch. This is my third I Touch. I recently sold my 1st version for $150. I paid $500 for it (32gb). I could now, some what, justify buying the latest version (4). I again bought the 32 gb one. The new one is SO cool. It has a camera on it. It has a longer battery also. THe BEST app is Siri. I speak into the Itouch with a question (ex) " Thai food". It comes back with the closest to your location with the address & directions. This goes for any question you have. It has helped me find places close to TV as we just moved here.
I have tried it but because of the camera you can Skype with it. Also added is an app FaceTime which allows calls to other Mac users where you can see them (camera allows this).

I don't think you can upload the library books to your Itouch. . (or unless they have changed it). Itunes has stopped this. I had to get the CD's & load them into my Itune account. This takes a LONG time to do.

Now-----I want the Ipad when they come out with the next generation.

I read a lot on my iPod touch. I have primarily used the Kindle for iPhone app but on occasion used the Stanza app for books.

My wife has a kindle and when she downloads a new book it immediately becomes available for me.

There are tons of apps - games, information, recipes, ebay, and more.

It is extremely handy as a resource for info, for example if I am watching a golf tournament on tv and want to see more stats on a player or a full leaderboard I can use the iPod touch.

Wow! Where can I find all the apps and what they do? I like the SIRI particularly for travelling. Thanks for all your input. I am getting closer to getting one!

Just a thought... Have you looked at the iPad? It's a little more expensive, but the 10" screen is fantastic and it does everything the iPod Touch can do..maybe more. Many of the iPhone/iPod Touch apps are redesigned for the larger iPad screen.

Granted, it's more expensive at $499 for the WiFi only model.

Just another perspective and maybe you owe it to yourself to at least look at the iPad before you buy.

Good Luck!

They are nice but you can't fit an Ipad into your shirt pocket!

I'm no expert and this was first time I had done this, but I downloaded the 3 CD's from this abridged book into my computer and I-Tunes and then it was synched with the IPod. Basically it was same method to copy my music CD's.

That makes sense, Handie. I have to use my husband's computer as he is on Leopard and I still am on Tiger, but I know how to copy CD's.

Does anyone know how I can download pictures I take onto a Leopard computer? At this rate I may have to upgrade but for the time being I am using Michael's computer. Does it go into iphoto automatically? Also can I do Facetime with someone I call using Skype on their landline? I feel so computer illiterate! I thought I had gotten into the 21st century quite well, but it feels like technology has gone whizzing by me! Thanks for any help.

I looked at the apps and couldn't find SIRI. I found Sirius and Sirius Canada but it seemed to be related to music. Is SIRI a free download? What category is it under. Thanks for any help.
