... one thing we all agree on ... The Villages needs a Lazy River.

I hope the developers are listening to TOTV!

Let me start with "Go Buckeyes!"

Then say, I expect it would have to be a private company (like a bar or restaurant). I expect we would not like to have the amenities raised to pay for construction, maintenance, insurance, and staffing of a river ride. So, private company.

For a private company to do it, they would have to see a demand high enough that for a reasonable admission price it could make a reasonable return on investment. I don't know what that admission fee would be and how many people would actually use it.

We do have a LOT of amusement parks without an hour or two of here, that would be in direct competition also.

I guess I would really like to have it, I don't think I would really like to pay for it. But, if you can get the Rec centers to add it, I will certainly look at the cost and probably would pay the increase.

We can have discussions about the pros and cons of this idea. If there was land that could be used initial construction cost would be in the millions. I am not an expert or have any knowledge regarding the maintenance but do know the costs of this river would be much higher than a regular swimming pool. If a person really wants a lazy river there are numerous slow moving spring fed(72 degrees and pleasant in the hot sun) rivers which are less than 1 hour from TV. In addition they are natural.

If this does not work, there are numerous water parks in the Orlando area

This idea makes the same sense as building an indoor ski slope. Do you beleive that all of the people who paid thousands for their own swimming pool to agree to this idea? I doubt it.

If you want a lazy river, go to Rainbow Springs State Park in Dunnellon. You can rent an inner tube or a kayak and cruise downstream. We have done it several times. It is absolutely beautiful.

The alligators are friendly, for the most part.

I would hope you go for say 20-30 minutes and than have to get out and than people do their business with they are supposed to.

I agree with the original poster. A Lazy River would be sooo freakin' cool! We have our own pool, but to have that kind of river, perhaps with a swim up grotto bar would be outrageous! Just my .02.

There's one already only 1.5 hrs from here, put together by Mother Nature, and prettier than anything done by Disney or Universal. It's called Ichetucknee River State Park. An inner tube rental outside the park is $5 for the duration, or you can bring your own floating device. It's a beautiful, peaceful float. You can stop at about 1 hr, or go longer for about 2 hrs. Get in touch with your inner tube!

And you keep the Gators and Snakes out how?? A ridiculous idea. The water is already about 100 degrees in deep Villages pools in the summer..how hot would this thing be? No thanks.

I should have chosen my words a bit more carefully. They do own quite a bit of the surrounding areas, real estate and golf courses and of course they want to do what they can to make their new homes sell.

In fact if you drive 1 hour to Orlando there are at least five hotel resorts with lazy Rivers, we have been to the Hilton which is fine and the one that we love is the Wyndham timeshare. It's a lovely thing to do if you going to have a mini vacation.

Do all of the lazy rivers at the dozens of hotels and resorts in the Orlando (heck most of Florida) have issues with gators getting in? Lazy rivers are subject to the same rules as pools, regarding fencing/protection
