Not a coincidence? SECO targeted your area because of the people chatting about generators?

What village are you in?

Nearby Arnold Palmers.

Power just came back on.

Very timely communications from SECO.
Text from them within minutes of outage.

Now let's hope for 18 more years until the next one.:ho:

Last week they stated it was a broken wire at one of the sub station.

I had a broken main wire going to my panel, SECO came out the next day and set up a temp service and came back a week later and made a perm fix. No Charge.

Hopefully not a trend but we are hearing from main stream media to expect brownouts this summer during extreme heat.

Once again, an all time not smart post! Just what kind of coincidence do you think this is. And please post only facts. Russians most likely or some communism plot to over throw teco and Seco.

11 days no power back in the late 80s in the finger lakes after a ice storm ripped down poles and trees. No power, no heat and lost all of our food in our big freezer and fridge. Also roads were impassable. So an hour or two is a vacation.

Yep. It’s Florida…power goes out from time. Whining about 2hrs? Try three days. We’ve done it. Hurricanes can be brutal. The Villages is “heads & tails” ahead of the state as most all the lines are buried.

There are a lot of power lines above ground in The Villages now. I would expect some outages eventually. At least you were not freezing and out of power.

What areas have the above ground power lines? I've not been paying a lot of attention but I certainly don't remember seeing many (if any).

The Villages is “heads & tails” ahead of the state as most all the lines are buried.. You’re right Florida is notorious for power outages & Surges. Wait until they get a million EV’s out there, you’ll see more & longer outages. The grids won’t be able to handle it.

Sure it’s going to happen! We better open Keystone Pipeline & get back to keep building gasoline cars. EV people better wake up, we’re moving to fast.

I rather see us mining the world's largest supply of natural gas that lies beneath our country. Natural gas burns cleaner and more efficiently than gasoline. Current cars can be converted to run on natural gas and the infrastructure is in place to pipe natural gas into existing service stations. We could even have people that have natural gas in their homes install a pump to fill their own cars and have it on their gas bill.

No, it would totally eliminate fumes but it would reduce them by a significant amount. Creating electricity also creates fumes.

A goal of having 100% electric cars by 2035, or at any time in the future is unreasonable. Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of people are driving old cars and have no plans to buy a new car. Many of those cannot afford to buy a new car and will never be able to afford a new car. This will hurt the poorest people the most.

And then what happens to all of the gasoline/diesel vehicles that are currently on the road? Can you image the pile of junk created across the country?

Why hasn't anyone that is proposing all electric cars discussed these problems?

Bogie,
I agree that we will require substantial electric power generation using fossil fuels. This is required to supply the flexibility to increase electric power supply to cover situations that wind and solar can not provide. We need to get back to increasing NG production.

NG is the fuel of choice for new electric power generation since the price of fuel (until recently) and cost of the power plant was economic.

I agree that getting to 100% EV's in 2035 or even 50% is not practical.

IMHO, using compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel is not simple to use for the general public. CNG is in use for specific users who have local area to cover and can be refueled at their depot when required. NG companies use CNG for their trucks as do Waste Garbage collectors and taxis in Europe. Use of CNG in Europe saves a lot of tax.

CNG is typically stored at 3,600 psig in special tanks at the local CNG fuel depot and in your special car tank. You would need compressors and not pumps to fill your tank at home with special safety controls equipment. I doubt that the authorities would permit installing this type of equipment in residential neighborhoods.

The power lines in the neighborhoods are all underground. Aren't they? These above ground power lines you speak of are those really big power lines that look like huge people to me.
