The newer variants are weaker. And, obviously, the shots don't stop anyone from getting or spreading anything.. So, although everyone will likely get it at some point, the risk of death or serious illness has declined.

But ask me to put back on a mask or shutdown the economy or scare kids at school and No Way. Personally believe that Big Pharma and their cohorts in Congress and Tony F are in cahoots. Good point. Also the current variants are less likely to cause long COVID - only about 5% of former COVID patients get it now. So unless you have risk factors the predispose you for severe disease or long COVID, you can relax a bit.

I had the usual Covid symptoms, including a headache, which I rarely have. I self tested and it was positive. I called my Doctor, he prescribed Paxlovid. I was sick 1 day. I took the antiviral meds and was 90% better the next day. I don’t know if the Doctor reports it or the pharmacy. Either way, it was no worse then a cold. If you test positive, call your Doctor right away. Time is of the essence.

Yes, it may feel like a bad cold if you are young and healthy or only got exposed to a small doze of the virus.

Actually a lot of people did die from pneumonia and other these diseases over the past 2 years. And much more died from COVID. It was the #1 cause of death for people over 45 just this winter. Followed by cancer, heart disease, respiratory infection, and stroke in the this age group.

Totally not surprising, we spend roughly 50% of our time between Florida and New England. The precautions taken by the general populations between the two locations are polar opposites. Plus, Florida is such a tourist destination that the amount of people traveling in/out by air, going to crowed venues like Disney, and going on cruise ships lends itself to a much higher likelihood of outbreaks.

We are both vaccinated and boosted and take reasonable, but not excessive, precautions. Neither of us has gotten Covid yet (to the best of our knowledge), and we hope to keep it that way.

Sumter county is 200 cases/100,000. Which is equal or lower that almost every other county in the state...

Just back from a cruise. We heard that almost every week some people do come down with the virus.

Since we both had it in May we figure we still have a good amount of antibodies but if we did another in a few months would spend a lot of time wearing masks.

Just back from a cruise. We heard that almost every week some people do come down with the virus.

Such a study may be determined to be unethical since it would require withholding a known-effective vaccine and placing people in real jeopardy of dying. Plus, it may be difficult to find a representational random sample since so many have already had the vaccine.

An approach that does work is real world observations. If the vaccine is *not* effective in lessening symptoms then the ratio of hospitalizations and deaths between vaccinated and unvaccinated would be similar to the ratio in the general population. it is not, the unvaccinated are several times more likely to be hospitalized and die. This is proof enough for me.

Now, if the question is whether a mild case in a vaccinated person is less severe than a mild case in an unvaccinated, does it really matter?

And yes, there are numerous studies showing the effectively of the vaccinations, and there are now over 2 billion people that have tested the vaccines and shown them to be safe and effective.

Sadly, as more people let their guard down and get even mild cases, that provides incubators for more variants. And one of those variants could be more deadly and bypass the vaccine.
