I find this surprising because usually a cop will not give another cop a ticket for anything. Sounds like there must be more to this story.

My guess is he will lose his job as a result of this...and he should. It is one thing to be bagged for DUI while off duty in your own vehicle. Quite another entirely to be picked up in uniform, in a marked patrol car, and on the way to start your shift. No way he walks away from this.

As a retired police supervisor, I will relate what happens in the state I worked in. The officer, in the first offense will be offered to attend an alcohol rehab facility. A successful completion of the program will allow him to save his job, providing he signs a last chance agreement. This means, if there is a second incident, he is terminated forthwith. More serious charges would be handled differently. This would also apply in the case of substance abuse. These are illnesses and agencies have invested large sums of capital in each officer, and if they can rehab them. its a worth while solution for all involved. These issues are usually covered in a collective bargaining agreement between the agency and its employees.

I find it amazing that posters are annoyed that this was posted. If I were ever stopped and shown to be under the influence I would be taken to jail, printed and face revocation of my DL as well as my CWP. Was this officer placed in cuffs in the back of a squad car? Was he treated the same as a non police officer would in a similar situation? This officer betrayed the trust of the people (not to mention it is very likely that he had his weapon on him while legally drunk).
I get in many discussions, debates, even arguments concerning my support for police. That alone is very sad. The idea that people attack me for supporting the police is not something that would happen 30 years ago. This officers actions has given ammunition to those who want to destroy our country. Posters on here annoyed that this is being discussed also feed into the anti police narrative that they receive special treatment.

Depends on who is doing the calling, I guess.

There is no doubt that the subject of police and police conduct is polarizing. I come from an area (near Minneapolis, MN) where the situation is beyond polarizing. Virtually every story that involved a LEO and a citizen, particularly if that citizen was a person of color, local media cast it as just more wrongdoing on the part of LEOs in general. The anti-cop faction of course took up the drumbeat, and the Court of Public Opinion, through the magic of social media, had the unfortunate LEO tried, convicted and hung probably even before he or she had time to finish out the workday. It was so bad that Minneapolis actively considered disbanding the police force and replacing the force with SOCIAL WORKERS. Fortunately, saner heads prevailed, but the fact that it was even considered in the first place says far more about the warped thinking of the people in power up there than anyone would want to know. It was one of two main reasons that I chose TV as my home.

Thankfully Florida, this part of Florida anyway, seems to appreciate the law enforcement officers that work around here and support what they do.

Oh man, with all the complaints about police, at least he didn’t shoot anybody but putting it in the news they’ll have to discipline him or certain people in the public will want to crucify him. He knows better than to be driving under the influence. Shame on him!

Do you feel were it not made public the force should let it slide? I fully support the police. I also fully support equal treatment under the law. I want to see him crucified as much as I want to see any person driving under the influence crucified, which is not much at all. Such charges will stay with a person for life. Then again, drunk driving can take the lives of innocent people. It is an area I am happy not to have to deal with.

You’ll be surprised how many people go to work drunk or drink on the job. Especially on evening shifts. The problem so don’t know how to manage their problem.
