We expect to stay 2 nights in London next month. Can anyone recommend a hotel from personal experience that would not be more than the equivalent of about $225 per night?
Thanks in advance to all that answer.

Plenty of Holiday Inns in London.

Holiday inn selling points for half price now. Points may be less expensive and avoid the awful Vat tax. The have a credit card, no fee, with 140,000 bonus that should get you free nights for the trip
Airbnb may be an option

Use priceline or hotels.com.
Have stayed in nice hotels (we prefer European ones) using priceline and been happy about it.
We like the London theatre district so stay near stops of the Piccadilly line.

Buy points and redeem. Avoid the 20 percent Vat tax. Too big to ignore,
Random search in August shows many hotels 50k or less points. Divide by 2 to get price. That’s 250 or less without a 20 percent tax

I stayed in the Melia White House in London for 3 or 4 nights. I think they have rooms for about $250 and up. It was clean, in a safe-feeling Downtown area and I would recommend it to others. I thought it was very nice -- upscale, a bit. I also enjoyed their authentic English breakfasts.

The good news is the dollar is strong vs the pound and almost at parity with the euro.
Yes. I would use points if possible to book a hotel there.

The Royal National Hotel
Spent 3 nights there in May
Rooms are clean, and the hotel is in a great location. There is a underground station within 2 min. And it’s a short walk to Piccadilly Circus if you happen to be taking in a show. Enjoy your time there. It is a beautiful city!!

Stayed at the Tower Hotel in 2019. Great locations next to The Tower of London me the Tower Bridge. Easy access to subway and several restaurants nearby.

You could try the Strand Palace hotel in Covent Gardens.
We stayed there recently. It was wonderful.

The best way to get around London is by their amazing subway system. Make sure where ever you stay, it’s walking distance to the subway. They all connect, so travel is easy. I stayed at a small bed and breakfast. The food was fabulous. Read reviews before you book.

Sorry, I posted then called my club and asked the rates. Too high. Delete will not allow me to delete the post. Edit is working. Have fun in London.

I have found agoda.com to have the best deals in lodging. The most recent promotional code they sent me was SAVEMORE22.

Try the London Elizabeth.
I've stayed there. Check their web site. Try to get a terrace room.

I always try to stay at the Premier Inn, County Hall. It's right on the Thames at the foot of the West Minster Bridge across from Big Ben and behind the London Eye. It's not fancy but it is clean and comfortable. You'll find that there are Premier Inns all over London and I've stayed in a few but this is the place that I always try to book when I go.

Sounds like this might be a “once in a lifetime” trip for you? If so, don’t stay in a Holiday Inn for God’s sake, make your trip worth the wait.
The Savoy Hotel in London . . . . just do it!

We live in outer London. The best hotels in central london are well over that amount but there are budget hotels - Premier Inn, Holiday Inn Express & Travel Lodge.

Millennium in Knightsbridge is great. Stay there a few years ago so have no idea what their rates are now but it's very close to the tube and also very close to be able to walk safely down to Harrah's along a street lined with amazing shops.

and the cheapest and easiest way to use the buses and the tube is by buying an Oyster card each at any station or tube station

Try Travelodge. I have stayed with them twice in recent history and have found them to be very clean and on the inexpensive side. Here is their web site https://www.travelodge.co.uk/.

You're pushing the cost limit on a hotel in a decent and convenient area. London is very expensive.
We've had good luck with the Radisson Blu chain. There are two on Oxford St, one near Marble Arch and the other near Selfridge's. Both are convenient to the Underground and buses.
There is third at Covent Garden, which is part of the theater district.
In our experience, their hotels are very accommodating. For example, on our last trip, our flight from Atlanta was cancelled and we arrived a day late. The hotel did not charge for the night we missed, even though we had pre-paid.
My former law partner turned us on to the Blu's. He has been a frequent visitor to London over many years and has stayed at a wide range of hotels, both of quality and price. He considers the Blu's to be the best hotels for all of location, price, and quality.
All the Blu's are newly remodeled. The rooms are small, but have high quality furniture and appointments. Each has a restaurant. Their prices are kept low by having few extras-no gym, conference room, large lobby etc.

The Thistle Hotel, Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens 104 Bayswater Road. Great location and reasonably priced, sometimes including a full English breakfast. Also offers sign ups for day excursions to Windsor Castle, Stratford Upon Avon, etc. We've stayed there twice Very centrally located and spotless.

If your going to London you should be out and about. The hotel only needs to be clean with a good bed.

Earls Court is a popular area for such hotels - good transport links, too

I agree. We stayed at the Premier Inn near the London Eye. Great location on the river and across from Waterloo Station. Within walking distance to Parliament and many other attractions. The breakfast was good.
When we’re trying to see as much as we can the hotel is secondary to the sightseeing.

Location counts tremendously in London. You should know how you're going from the airport and try to get something nearer to the tube or attractions, many hotels that are not chains have very small rooms to European standards . You should check out the room sizes on several of the websites as well as making sure they have elevators and a breakfast room. Also we like to have availability of a supermarket / food store nearby if we want to eat in our room and some people do not appreciate English food.

Do not remember the hotel name but that is where we stayed last time. European hotels so much more charming than American chains.

I personally like Bankside. Very central. Walk left along the river and get to Big Ben. Walk right along the river and get to Tower Bridge. You can't go wrong. The Tate Modern is also right there.
Hilton London Bankside is nice. I'venot stayed there but I've seen the lobby/pool. It's very central. I see $163 on hotels.com for August 1st.
Citizen M Bankside is nearby and also nice. I've seen the rooms and they are very "interesting" - you can press a button on a remote and turn all the lights red for example. I see $177 for August 11 on hotels.com.
To find the cheapest just look for the Travelodge's (which is cheaper than Premier Inn by a little bit) or an older boutique hotel that might be having a sale. There are one each in Bankside.

Try Motel 6. Even if your flight or taxi are delayed … they’ll leave the light on!
