A week and a half ago I posted a thread about the trouble we ran into the day before we were supposed to close by mail. The closing date was pushed back to Nov 5th and it became obvious that wasn't going to happen either. So basically the whole thing crashed and burned last Friday with the deal falling apart. Oh well, I guess this one wasn't meant to be. Now I have to fly back out, start the search again and stay as far away from Citizens First Mortgage as possible. Thanks for all of your suggestions, we will end up there eventually.

Thank you for the update. I'm so sorry this happened to you as I know you were looking forward to starting your life in TV.

What was the issue that it would cause the whole sale to go south ? With today's housing market you would think the seller would be flexible enough to wait for the issue to be resolved if it was within the next month or so.

Was this problem completely due to the closing department??

The seller was not at fault here, in fact Citizens kept them in the dark as well. 100% fault of Citizens, although I suspect in an effort to cover their behinds they might dispute that...My agent knocked himself out to make this happen but in the end it was not to be...

Sorry to hear. Did the seller back out? Did you lose your earnest money?

This thread has given me some additional gray hair and I'm bald and white-haired already. We're scheduled to close on December 3 and have yet to receive our mortgage approval. I emailed our loan officer at Citizens' Wholesale Mortgage and asked for an update and was told they are awaiting an appraisal. I recognize an appraisal takes some time but this is a newly built home and I hope the appraisal is a no-brainer.

According to the loan officer, after the appraisal is received, final mortgage will be approved and the approval will be forwarded to the title company. At that point, he says the title company will call us to discuss closing date and time and final closing costs. He anticipates that call won't take place until several days before closing so they can give us the exact amount needed for closing and the cashier's check.

My concern is with the timing. We're scheduled to fly in the day before and stay a week before we have to return to Connecticut.

I'd appreciate feedback from anyone who's recently gone through the closing process on a newly built home with a mortgage as to whether I should begin breaking out in a cold sweat.

It's a long story. In fact a representative of TV called and wanted me to document everything that went on so "that this won't happen to anyone else." It took me 4 pages to document so it's not so simple to explain here. In the end the sellers were just as much a victim as we were. We are going to get our deposit money back and hopefully move on. I'm not telling anyone not to use Citizens as everyone s experience will be different. I'm only gonna say I wouldn't hire them to scrub my toilet bowl. At least the two people I dealt with there, haha.

You have handled this situation very diplomatically, if you don't want to try contacting a VP at Citizens to work through a solution, you might want to try Community Bank and Trust on CR466, I have used them in the past and are very satisfied....gn

I am sorry for you disappointment. Especially the money you wasted on the trip here... I hope some of it was fun.

We used Citizens and it was seamless. We had the home and cell phone # for the person handeling our mortgage. I called him one night at 9:00 and he said he was putting the kids to bed could he call back. About 15 min. later he called and answered all my questions. He kept me up to date through the entire process. Called me when any step in the process was achived or any problem occured. I was very satisfied with Citizens.

You might just be passing up an excellent opportunity for some domestic help............ :1rotfl:

Sorry to hear about the outcome - bummer. But as you're saying, it apparently wasn't meant to be. Is it possible to take the deal to another lender?

In the end, I'll bet you end up finding something better!!

We wanted to buy in TV in June 2010 I tried First Citizens' Wholesale Mortgage and felt like I needed to make an appointment to speak with someone on the phone. They seemed to never be there and couldn't talk about the rate. After a few days of trying to get attention I just gave up and called a broker that we had used before in Clearwater.
Jo Ann Rooney (727) 787-2299 was great. We closed at our dining room table in Massachusetts on our schedule.
My advice is to find someone that doesn't get paid unless you make the deal with them. They will push it along and always call you back.

I used Citizens in the past to close on our home (no mortgage involved and this could change the dynamics) and had no issues what so ever and have recommended them to many others, also use them for other banking and love their services....gn

Thanks Snowbird, I'll call her Friday...I called a Wells Fargo near TV today and got a pre-approval letter from them...It's funny, the time I spent on the phone with their rep was tons more helpful and informative than anything I got form Citizens...But again, most people will have a different ending with Citizens than I did...We will get there, it's just gonna be a little more challenging than we thought...
