Does anyone know of someone reliable who could install a new sensor on our outdoor lamp post?

You can either replace the sensor or replace the bulbs with "dawn to dusk" bulbs if the light is always on. If you want to replace the sensor, I would suggest that you take a photo of it and go to ACE Hardware or Lowes and buy a new sensor. Having the part on hand may save you some money. Here are some handymen who can probably do it:
Toymeister on this website (pm him)
Joe Podrasky, 814-660-3848
Tim, 352-217-0561
Ray McCain, 352-460-2996
Another option is to call an electrician. Any of them can do it, but I would get a quote before having them come to your house.

When we moved here quickly found sensor had failed. Went to lowes told him what we needed and got me the part.
Had hired handyman (since retired) for a bunch of things and was a snap for him to install.

Hubby is not handy at all. Well, maybe a little. He once replaced the fill valve in our toilet.
Anyway.......we went to Ace Hardware and purchased the lamp post sensor. Hubby watched YouTube Videos how to install the sensor and he actually did it!!! I was so proud of him!

Have learned that me and electricity often do not work well together. Better to hire someone who knows what they are doing.

Hubby flipped the breaker to turn off the electricity before he even began working on it. He may not be handy but he knows that much.

If he successfully completed that job he’s pretty handy due to wiring down in hole.

Thank you for saying that. That was the tricky part but he got it. He supported the light part on a ladder so he had both hands free to fish the part down. He was pretty proud of himself when he completed the job.

Often easier to learn from dumb things others have done You save a lot of time not to have to make all the mistakes yourself. Honest, not me. We have three bulbs in our outside pole fixture.
My neighbor, who was at one time a janitor. Replaced the sensor only to discover all three of the bulbs were blown. Aside, our sensor is now 9 years old and still going.
The bulbs in our fixture, I replaced them with LED bulbs after the first bulb blew so they are at least 8 and a half years old.

Been there. Done that. When I was young and foolish.

Sansi 60-watt dusk to dawn bulb at Home Depot seems like the easy fix

We kept having issues with the sensor going bad after a few months last year. After replacing it twice we decided to replace our light fixture with a nicer looking one with a built-in dusk to dawn senor. No problems since. Easy to do, I just disconnected the light sensor and left it in place. Wired Black to black, red to red and ground to ground, it took about 20 minutes to do. We purchased it off Amazon.

Any handyman can do the job, and much less expensive than an electrician

Almost any handyman. Pick one up at Lowes or Home Depot. They’ll have one.

I went to WalMart and bought a socket with a sensor on it for $5. Put that between the light bulb and the old socket, and it has worked perfectly for 7 years now. Same product also works on outside garage lights too.

You can buy a bulb that has the sensor built into it. They call it a "dawn to dusk" light bulb. The socket can add space that you may not want.

I am a master electrician for 35 years, and I've seen plenty of homeowners/handymen incorrectly make connections with wire nuts or not even use wire nuts and make the connections using masking tape:shocked:. It works until the fire starts. If you don't know what you're doing stick to plumbing at least your house won't burn down...

Yes, if you are referring to the one on your front lawn on your property.

Caution: Many of the light sensors we can buy at Lowes, Home Depot, etc are poor quality. They do not last long. Qualified Electricians have access to better quality that will last for years. Two such companies are LenHart and Pikes Electric.

I don't know what type of sensor electricians use, but the $13 Amertec sensor, sold at ACE Hardware, will also last for many years.

If you go to Home Depot they can identify the sensor by where you live or take a picture of it. I replaced the sensor myself in 10 minutes. Very simple. Likely save you $100. Bucks
