I see many Village restaurants have signs posted that say 'service animals only' on their patios. Are there any restaurants that do allow dogs on their patio? Asking for a furry friend.

Unless Red Sauce recently got approval from Sumter County, they do not have permission for pets on their patio. I have contacted Sumter County to confirm and waiting for a reply.

Darrell’s Diner in Spanish Springs has dog friendly outside seating. In fact, they advertise as a “dog gone good diner”. The place is nothing fancy, but they serve a decent and reasonably priced breakfast. We like it because breakfast is always better with your pup laying down next to your feet : )

Yes, Island Fin Poke in Brownwood has patio seating and will bring treats to your best friend. They even puppysit if you need to go in to get your lunch or dinner. Complete with a water bowl and friendly service.

There are specific procedures that need to be followed per the law.

4. Patrons shall keep their dogs on a leash at all times and shall keep their dogs under reasonable control.

5. Dogs shall not be allowed on chairs, tables, or other furnishings.

6. All table and chair surfaces shall be cleaned and sanitized with an approved product between seating of patrons. Spilled food and drink shall be removed from the floor or ground between seating of patrons.

7. Accidents involving dog waste shall be cleaned immediately and the area sanitized with an approved product. A kit with the appropriate materials for this purpose shall be kept near the designated outdoor area.

8. A sign or signs reminding employees of the applicable rules shall be posted on premises in a manner and place as determined by the local permitting authority.

The OP asked a simple question. He / she didnt ask whether you like dogs, or whether you like eating outside next to a dog. The question was which restaurant offers dog friendly patio seating. Your logic about chiming in about your dislike is the same as the following: Which restaurant serves the best Apple pie ? To which you respond: I hate Apple pie but Restaurant A has the best Key Lime Pie ever ! That wasn't the question ! You obviously failed fill in the blank tests !

Technically, I agree. But, this would be a pretty boring website if posters couldn't say what they think. Dogs in restaurants is a very controversial topic, as evidenced by this thread.

If the subject were 'I want to bring my dog into the Chop House' I could see the point these posters are making. The OP asked which restaurants allowed dogs in outside seating areas, not asking for the merits of whether to bring said dog.

If it is legal and the restaurants allow dogs OUTSIDE and your pet is well behaved, and you keep them on the ground....have at it.

Some say the same about smoking. Wait, maybe dogs are different? According to post # 33 and # 35 signs allowing dogs in patio area should be posted by the restaurant. OP, if the restaurant follows the State and local rules (if any) this should answer your original post.

Just remembered a couple of other restaurants that welcome dogs on the patio. TooJays, Cody’s, and Lighthouse Point, all at Lake Sumter Landing. It’s always best to call and make sure the policy hasn’t changed. Also, if you have a small enough dog, I highly recommend a pet stroller for your visit.

Just remembered a couple of other restaurants that welcome dogs on the patio. TooJays, Cody’s, and Lighthouse Point, all at Lake Sumter Landing. It’s always best to call and make sure the policy hasn’t changed. Also, if you have a small enough dog, I highly recommend a pet stroller for your visit.

Out of those 3 restaurants, only Cody's has the required permit. The other 2 are in violation of Florida Law unless they recently obtained a permit.

Not exactly. It is very complicated. First, I don't think Florida issues any permits. They are issued by the City of Wildwood and they only apply to restaurants located in Wildwood. Other parts of The Villages do not issue permits. Second, The Florida law restrictions do not apply to "bars", only to restaurants. And, third, if the dog owner claims that their dog is a service animal, then any Florida law would be superseded by the Federal disability law regarding service animals. The Federal law allows owners of a service animal to go just about anywhere they want to, and there is no documentation required.

This person did not ask you whether you liked her bringing their dog. She asked which restaurants were dog friendly. It doesn’t matter why she wants to bring the dog. It could be because she doesn’t want to eat alone. It could be because she needs a dog to allow her to go out in public. It could be that she just wants the dog with her and not leave the dog home alone. For whatever reason , just answer the question and stop attacking her . If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. People need to go back to what your parents taught you when you were kids. Be nice.

No, you have it backwards. Florida law bans pets from patios, but allows local ordinances that follow the state rules to issue permits.

Sumter County issues permits at LSL for dogs on patios. I have the list. If a location has a kitchen that prepares food it may have a bar, but it is considered a restaurant. Not many bars in TV, except for the drink shacks and the bar inside Sawgrass. Sure people lie and claim they have a service animal. Karma will catch up to them.

You are correct that Sumter County does address and allow permits for dogs within outdoor portions of public food establishments. I couldn't find a specific permit application form, so, apparently, the restaurant needs to send a letter to the County requesting a permit. I wonder if this ordinance is ever inspected or enforced by the County.
