I went into the fine jewelry department today. A month ago I purchased an emerald pendant for my wifes birthday for $600. She wanted matching earrings. The clerk acted like I was putting her out asking about them.
Discustedly asked if I used a Belk card or service agreement. I asked if she could look up my name or phone as we had purchased several items in the past. Cant do it, slapped a stack of sales slips on the counter and said she would have to look through them to find the number of the pendant I bought. Another clerk came over and said she would look in the EFFE book
to find a copy. After many sighs and eye rolls they found the item.
Now could not find any earrings anywhere near a match and the only ones were $2,000.
All in all a terrible experience, and last time I will buy anything there.

I like Belks, it's my favorite department store. Now, that being said, I would never buy jewelry in a department store, that is why God created jewelry stores.

We went there recently because they were offering 40% off on Sketchers. We picked out our shoes and when we went to the checkout to pay we couldn’t get the discount without downloading their app and creating an account. We walked out without new shoes.

I'm trying to figure out why you thought your experience was worthy of being posted. Go to a discount store you should expect discount service.

How about taking a picture of your wife's jewellery so you can show the next clerk what you are trying to match?

I never considered Belk to be a discount store.

Thought Belk looked more like Macys when I first came here but it does look more like a discount store now. Too bad. I suppose if you want a really super shopping experience, you have to go to the Mall at Millenia.

Our early experiences shopping at Belk were far better than our last recent attempt. While we were not treated rudely by staff, there seemed to be a general lack of interest on their part, as well as a noticeable lack of inventory. Unless I were in the middle of a transaction, I don't feel obliged to waste my time looking for a manager to bring this to her or his attention. Managers should be out there handling staff training and other issues, observing, and making corrections and suggestions, not be tucked away in an office somewhere and being unaware of what's going on in the store other than via complaints by customers....

Your so right. Most managers are tucked away in an office almost hiding so they won’t have to help their staff or engage with customers. Disappointing.

Next time go to the jewelry store on 466 past rolling acres before 441 on the right going East. I believe it’s called Art & ? Jewelry. They like you to look around, gracious, professional & inviting. Good prices too

The staff at Belks is not well trained- especially in cosmetics and jewelry. The pendant purchased for $600 is a synthetic stone- genuine certified emeralds
are pricier and the earrings were probably certified stones. Many of the special sales at Belk require using their credit card…have to read the fine print

I agree. I don't buy it. But, if you buy expensive jewelry, the only place to buy it is Costco. You can return it at anytime and get a full refund. There is no time limit, so you return it years after the purchase and still get your money back. If you buy jewelry at a jewelry store, they may let you exchange it within about 3 weeks, but no refunds. After the 3 weeks, you own it and they may buy it back for about 10 percent of what you paid. Costco sells some very high quality and expensive jewelry.

Millennia is incredibly expensive. Go to the Florida Mall in Orlando. It’s very nice

I know it doesnt help here but I vaguely recall there are rules/laws about fine print. Size, readability, etc. I found this. FTC rules:

A fine-print disclosure at the bottom of a print ad, a disclaimer buried in a body of text unrelated to the claim being qualified, a brief video superscript in a television ad, or a disclaimer that is easily missed on a website are not likely to be effective. Nor can advertisers use fine print to contradict other statements in an ad or to clear up misimpressions that the ad would leave otherwise.

The FTC has and will enforce these rules. In 2009, it fined a web company for placing a fine-print disclosure at the bottom of the screen. Consumers were able to complete the transaction without ever having noticed it

Yes. And they will take your old jewelry and make something else out of it. My wife’s no longer used gold watch and band being made into a jeweled bracelet by them

We went to Belk last week and I was surprised by the lack of selection in the men's section. Next stop was the shoe section. What a mess that was. I would say almost every box was opened and there was no organization of the sizes. Belk made Bealls look like a high end store.

LOL. The FTC fined a web company 13 years ago? There are television ads on all day long that flash long fine print disclosures for a second or so that no one can read. The FTC is not fining those companies. The FTC has a budget of about $400 million, but, in my opinion, they are doing a lousy job of protecting consumers from deceptive advertising. Buyer beware.

Any department store where customers use shopping carts is a discount store, as far as I'm concerned.

Take a picture of the emerald pendant, and bring it to Bob's Coin and Jewelery on 441 opposite Wal-Mart. They are great to do business with. They will do their best to accommodate you.

Here’s a tip for when you can’t read the fine print. Take a photo of it on your smartphone and then stretch the print. Works better than a magnifier.

If one bad experience stops you from shopping someplace, you are going to run out of vendors even on line there are problems. I recommend you ask to speak with the manager rather than write about it here. The manager can do something about it and see that the staff gets better training in customer service.

About 3 doors down from Belk is Jewelry Design. They have been serving The Villages for 24 years. Everyone who works there is helpful, polite and kind. A wonderful family owned business. They keep accurate records and always stand behind what they sell...they never charge for cleaning and checking the setting even on Jewelry you didn't buy from them!!!!
