I live just down the street and no one has officially said what caused the hole.. I know Thur. morning there was a big truck parked their to deliver shingles and the front end of the truck broke thru the road surface .. Fri. they were dumping dirt into the hole and it's about 1/2 full now.. but the contractor must not work on Sat. ... just Comm. watch has been there

Maybe a piece of that Chinese rocket? Or it's been so hot it melted? :jester:

Why do you say that, was a pipe dug up and repaired?
The guy on the video speculated that it was a water main break. Doesn't seem likely without a lot of water running down the street and a repair crew fixing the main.

Seems like it’s all speculation at this point…………..

If the water ran down the street, it wouldn't be creating a sinkhole..
On the other hand, I'm not sure what your definition of "water main break" is, but it seems that you expect the worst.

Agree
They don’t dig up the pipe in most cases, the put bandage type pipe clamp on it where it’s broke. Only If the whole line failed the got dig up section of pipe. Mostly likely with all the heavy rain it finely displaced enough dirt and heavy truck cause it to open up.
Usually water main leak causes water to bubble up or geyser and the big suction truck removed loose dirt and water. Would seen that big truck and crew working before hole was filled in. Very few actual sink holes in developed area, usually water system related when pressure induced either by gravity or line pressure. Drain lines under retention ponds has static pond pressure on them. Even under the retention ponds that have transfer tubes, they rot or leak and over time causes ground collapse. This just not in Florida but all over the world. The corvette museum probably best known sinkhole from building storm drains that failed IMO.

Water under pressure will seek the path of least resistance. Sometime it up and some time it down before it comes to surface. Massive leaks usually go up due to less compacted earth. Small leak may saturate earth till if fines cavity and over time the saturated earth above the cavity collapses causing hole at surface level hence the nasty word sinkhole….:22yikes:

Bill, because a water main break causes a huge issue with water running down the street and water boil alerts because of contamination from sand & dirt! A drain is just under static pressure unless we have a monsoon rain storm. Erosion over time creates these issues …

What! we replace the section. with special repair coupling.

The problem is the quality of the pipes that were used combined with inadequate coupling of the drain pipes. This is far from the end of this problem occurring.
Compaction of the ground that the drainage pipes are on is an additional problem that wasn’t í ½í±€ looked at years ago. Just shameful.

The sinkhole was surrounded by barricades Thursday at the home on Wesley Street in the Village of Springdale.
(Jury still out if really a sink hole)
