View Full Version : Stolen/Lost/Mistaken golf clubs.

Today after playing 18 holes at Cane Garden we parked out front and went in and had lunch. Went to golf cart after lunch and my clubs were gone. Maybe stolen or maybe someone removed them by mistake as they were switching carts or something. It does happen. Someone moves them to their cart for someone else, someone doesn't have 100% of their thinking ability, someone talking and doing to many things and make a mistake. I can hope someone recognized them later as not theirs.

Anyway if someone saw something at Cane Garden parking lot today around 1:00 to 1:30 or somehow got the wrong clubs, I would certainly appreciate the information and getting them back. They are Taylor Made M4 and M6 in a blue golf bag with a Bushnell rangefinder and Bushnell Phantom. Irons 4 thru lob wedge and Driver, 3W, 5W and 7W. Odyssey Putter.

I did file a police report, called Community Watch and will check with lost and found at the 4 rec centers. Also left my contact info with the Cane Garden Golf shop.

Anyone have any other good ideas?

Sorry to hear the bad news, I hope it was just a mistake and you get your clubs back. We are very careful about not leaving our clubs unlocked in public places but always figured they would be safe at the country clubs. That really sucks : (

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like great club set. I do the same, I park as close to the backside clubhouse restaurant to keep a closer eye out on my cart. I'll keep my clubs at home from now on. Thanks for the warning.

A cable. Wow that really is going to slow someone down. Less than 2 seconds to cut and take. If a professional thieves want your clubs, they will take them. Leaving anything of value on your cart just isn't smart

This just saddens me. I keep reading about a number of thefts. Yes, I know we don't live in a "bubble" but we have to look out for each other. *** And kudos for the way the thread is written.

Many country clubs sell a canvas bag that goes over your clubs and it comes with a cable that you wrap around the golf cart basket or other anchoring place and provide your own lock for the cable. That keeps honest people honest, and if a professional theif wants clubs they will choose some easier to steal. I've been using this bag system for 8 years now and have peace of mind when I go in after the round to eat lunch. Cost is under $50 at most Country Clubs in TV.

When a friend had her clubs stolen the police recommended she check Play It Again Sports and local pawn shops. She did find them at Play It Again Sports. She had to purchase the clubs back but the thief was arrested. The thief was ordered to pay restitution which she never received. But she did get her clubs back.

Always wait 2 or 3 days before checking Play It Again. It takes the staff that time to put price tags on the clubs.

Always park your cart/clubs on the golf course side of the buildings with the other carts, not in the parking lot.

Submit a claim to your homeowners insurance. Most likely, you have coverage with a limit of $1,000 for items such as sporting goods, guns, and jewelry.

Very interesting. We have a friend whose clubs were stolen from Havana (parking lot not cart parking), and were found at Play it Again Sports. So.....not only these 2 incidents of stolen clubs ending up at the same place, but even the police are aware enough to suggest it. Hmmm---known fence???? Prosecution for receiving stolen property???? Just seems odd that there appears to be a pipeline for stolen clubs directly to this retailer.

If you get your clubs back or buy new ones, invest in club cover lock. The cost about $40 which is a pretty small investment to protect $2500 worth of equipment.

HOPE, by now they were found, but I doubt it. Sounds like they were stolen and noted you had better quality clubs. Report to your insurance company. Unfortunately for you is that your story will/should make others more protective about their clubs and other items in the cart. I have a habit of putting keys and cell phone in the bag. Not anymore. Some of us probably have over 2-3K worth of clubs and other items in our bag

1. Take pictures of clubs and serial numbers.
2. Register clubs on manufacturer website.
3.Keep clubs purchase receipt and take a picture.
4. High visible bike cable.
5. AirTags.
6. Keep the rain cover on the bag, if you don't have one go buy one.
7. Don't use high end fancy golf bags
8. Use the golf cart rain cover and install a lock on it so it can't be raised.
9. Install a piece of metal bar across the back of the cart with lock so the bag can sit behind it.
10. Look on eBay, Craiglist, Play it Again, Nextdoor, Facebook and all local golf shops, they all accept trade in for store credit.

Just a few ideas.

Oh I forget put NRA stickers on your bag and cart.

When my wife lost a club the course I discovered Ping club sets have a laser engraved serial number on them that uniquely identifies the set. Using the number I was able to get an exact replacement but the number could be shared with the police and local golf shops as well.

Fair point, but wouldn't we have a lot more golf club thefts if professional thieves were roaming the country clubs? If these were stolen, it was likely a non-professional opportunistic thief who would be discouraged by a cable lock.

Disagree. A cover with a cable over you clubs will certainly make a thief think twice., and go for an easier target, unless your the only cart in the area.

Just remember, no matter how great you think someplace is, there’s still all walks of life. Just so the person knows I don’t live in the bubble that TV is no different than any other place just because of the average age that lives there! TV is a great place to live, yes even though I don’t live in your bubble anymore!

They are tracking devices from Apple they are small squares that you can place on or in items to track it if you can’t find it, put one on your keychain, in your luggage or anything else that is lost or you may lose then you can track it on your iPhone I’m sure there are other brands as well just make sure they are compatible with your phone 😊

I have checked the airtags and TILE tracking devices and they only have a range of about 300 feet. And if the thief has an apple phone he will know that the airtag is there and can disable it by taking the battery out. Not a great solution.

Hearing what happened at Cane Garden is enough to make one want to purposely leave the clubs unlocked in the parking lot in front of the clubhouse, take out the seven iron, hide out someplace close by, and wait for the low life scumbag to try to steal the sticks. That would be priceless justice.
