View Full Version : Another golf cart stolen in about a week

Cart was stolen in the Village of Collier at about 4am.
Must be the same guys that stole mine, :ohdear:
But they were on camera, reports one cart thru gate and two leaving together at 4 am.
It appears a village resident may be part of the ring if they drove in on a cart.
I haven't heard anything from the police on mine.

That's why I would leave my CAR out and CART in if we didn't have a 2 car garage. Stealing a cart is like shoplifting a paperback book (if they still existed). Leaving a cart out overnight is like saying "come take me" if someone is "shopping" the neighborhood.

Several places where a cart can be driven into TV. Big jump to accuse a villager.

Too easy to steal golf cart when it is parked outside. Pick up truck and ramps is all you need.

Really? Up in the north end, they trailer their cart to the Publix parking lot on 441, unload and drive all over The Villages. They can do that anywhere or just drive a cart across 441 to SS or 44 Brownwood. There is no security here

From Freedom Plaza on 44 they ride on the grass to the Brownwood Hotel/Advanced Care parking lot. From Beaumont on 466A they come in on Pinellas.
Golf carts are legal on city roads in Wildwood.

airtags are bluetooth, has to be gps bluetooth range is at best 25-50 feet depending on environment
When outside your Blue Tooth Range, the Find My Network is used to find the general area that the airtag is located (similar to find a specific contact). This works at Great Distances" . Once you get close, it can switch to bluetooth for an exact (close to) location. AitTags would be useless for anything other than find my keys is it were limited to 35 feet.
Regardless of the class and distance, Bluetooth is not the sum of an AirTag, and both Find My and ultra-wideband are designed to help where Bluetooth can’t. For example, when outside of the Bluetooth range, the Find My network can be used to find the general area of an AirTag, making it possible to initially locate a lost or missing item from great distances. Once within range, Bluetooth can take over. Then, when within a close enough distance of the device, the short-range ultra-wideband helps to ensure the exact location of an AirTag can be identified, even when Bluetooth is having issues pinpointing the item.

We have what they call a 1 and a half car garage. There are 2 carts and an SUV in the garage, it's tight but they fit! If I had to leave a cart out, I'd sell it first! I did have a Fiat that couldn't be put in the garage with 2 carts however during hurricane season, a snowbird let us put one cart in their garage. My husvand was able to get the SUV plus the one golf cart and the Fiat in the garage. (I was shocked...)

and never find the cart You evidently don't understand how airtags work. ANY IPHONE (or iPad or Apple laptop), NOT JUST THE AIR TAG OWNERS IPHONE, BUT ANY IPHONE, that passes it within the 0-30+ foot range will send the location to the cloud and it can be found with FIND MY. Of course if the thieves put it in a garage and either strip it for parts or NEVER take it out on the road you would be right unless a friend visits the thieves home with an iPhone on him or her.. ANY Apple device that goes near it will send it's location and there are billions of Apple Devices around the world. As I mentioned in another thread I have one on my cart and can 90% of the time see exactly where it is at any time because there are multitudes of iPhones everywhere. If there is no Iphone passing it for 2 miles eventually one will at mile 3. Yes, if there wasn't any iPhone that ever passed within up to 30 feet of it you'd be right but those chances are quite low out in the public (shhhhh, don't tell my wife .... just kidding, she's aware of it). Of course one won't be able to track their pet cockroach or rabbit on their property unless it runs out into the street where people are carrying iPhones. The range on AirTags is functionally infinite as long as there's someone with an iPhone nearby.
Some "pros and cons": Apple AirTags are being used to track people. Here's what is being done about it : NPR (https://www.npr.org/2022/02/18/1080944193/apple-airtags-theft-stalking-privacy-tech)

Also "The rechargeable battery can last 2 to 6 weeks depending on amount of daily travel." The air tag battery can go 2 years. So far my 2 have lasted over a year.

I doubt that. If u live outside the villages it’s unlikely you’d be able to use a golf cart. You’d have to be on main roads and cart ti be road legal. Very few if any non villagers meet that criteria. Unless you’re trucking in a golf cart specifically to go in snd steal other carts. But why bother. Anyone can buzz thru gate.

Sorry for you. We had our cart stolen during the day while parked at Colony Recreation Center. No keys left in ignition and glove boxes locked. In trying to make an insurance claim, we called police and began the process. The most important thing I can suggest is take pictures of your NEW cart. We had trouble describing our 2 year old cart to the insurance company. We had items in the glove boxes that were supposed to be covered too. When we bought our new cart, we installed a kill switch and now we try not to worry. Ask your insurance agency what you need to provide for the claim. We had to send both sets of keys, a picture of the cart (which we did not have except from a model), and miscellaneous other items. Good luck!

If the thieves only knew fully the risk that they take clipping anything in The Villages. I understand it's possible????? that many people carry guns???? Can you imagine coming up on someone stealing your property???? I imagine it would not be a very good ending.

From Freedom Plaza on 44 they ride on the grass to the Brownwood Hotel/Advanced Care parking lot. From Beaumont on 466A they come in on Pinellas.
Golf carts are legal on city roads in Wildwood.
Sec. 12-155. - Operation of golf carts on public city roads.
new
(a)Authorization to operate golf carts on public city roads. Golf carts meeting the definition set forth in section 12-152 may be operated on all public city roads where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. Public city road shall mean any thoroughfare maintained by the city that is commonly used for vehicular traffic.
You missed section (b) right below it:
(b)Operation on public county and state roads. Golf carts may not operate on or cross county roads unless authorized by Sumter County. Golf carts may not operate on or cross state highways unless authorized by the department of transportation pursuant to F.S. § 316.212(2).
RT 301 and 44 is a State Road going through Wildwood. I believe Warm Springs is a county road. One is SUPPOSED to be street legal to drive on or across it. However there is a STATE REGULATION that says if the STATE road SPLITS your actual development, you can cross at a light in a GC.

A lot easier to pass a law that would require golf carts to be licensed and registered than a bicycle ridden by a 12 year old. Huh, OK, your point? Was just stating the weirdness of the laws not trying to change them. Just to be clear: NOT THAT I WOULD WANT TO DO EITHER :) , but you **CAN** ride a bike on 466A, or 301 or 44 or Morse or BV or 466 or hundreds of others but you **CAN'T** ride a non-LSV golf cart on any of them. Just a "stranger than science" fact, not a complaint. :D

I think this sentence is pretty self explanatory, though the other section clarifies it more.

All they have to do is make all golf cart shops pay a fine when ever a cart is stolen. When we lived in Vegas, power cables were stolen from large freeway lights, Clark County assessed every scrap dealer in Clark County a share of the amount stolen. Took 3 months and it ended!
Sounds like something that worked. Surprised that scrap yards(collectively) did not question this law. In other words if one shop was buying the cables and there were other 9 other shops that did this, all 10 would have to pay for the stolen cable.

There is no punishment for criminals anymore.
There is punishment but thefts like this are not investigated by law enforcement like they should be investigated. They are more interested in catching speeders on Morse Blvd.

I am new to TV and am curious if anyone is using security/alarm systems on their golf carts? Seems like an inexpensive car/motorcycle motion sensor alarm would be a major deterrent to stop thefts via drive off, push onto trailer or even removing golf clubs? Anyone?

I cannot speak for the effectiveness of alarms, but I did help a few neighbors install alarms, including one that was 2 way, the remote would indicate if the alarm was activated (1/2 mile range if I recall correctly).

How many times has anyone heard a car alarm blaring and just ignored it as it happened so often? And of course, on a golf cart they can simply pull the wire off the alarm horn.
In "the old days" (back in "the 80's :)) I used to have an alarm on my new car that would YELL (with a voice) if anyone got too close and heaven forbid they actually touched it. :1rotfl: Alarms are so 20th century. :D

I have actually seen a golf cart scoot across Miller Blvd. It was driven in from Timbertop Ln directly on to Drake Drive entrance.
Seen them too. Cartful of kids with swimming suits. On the way to the free pools

So, did you call anybody? Did you see them go to a pool? Did you alert the rec center?

Put a “random key” ignition on your Yamahas, the key provided with most carts is a generic type manufactured ignition key that fits all the Yamaha golf carts. A random ignition is super easy to install (Less than 5 minutes). They are about $50.

I pushed some guys GC into the middle of a parking lot a couple of years ago without needing a key when he parked directly behind me at a Walmart. Simply released the brake and rolled it practically to the front door of Walmart who refused to try and page them (which wouldn't have helped anyway).
