This past summer my wife and I went to the Ballroom Blitz classes at Seabreeze Recreation Center. They were put on by John and Kathy Augustine who do a wonderful job and we really enjoyed ourselves. Around the beginning of October well over 100 people would turn up for these classes and the last time we went there were people turned away from the beginner class. Not being very good at standing in line we haven’t gone back – but plan on returning after the winter when the crowds abate.

In the meantime we have signed up for the Lifelong Learning College’s “Steppin’ Out Ballroom Beginning Classes” with Don Wyman and Suzanne Crosby at the Allamanda RecreationCenter. No they are not free, but a 6 week course for $54 a couple is only $9 a week – personally I think it’s worth the nine bucks not to stand in line. In addition the classes are much smaller, about 10 couples, and you get plenty of individual attention from two great instructors.

This is not meant to be an endorsement or criticism of either course in any way as we have enjoyed both of them and plan on returning to Ballroom Blitz and also continuing with the “Steppin’ Out”. But it does offer a great option for those who do not want to stand in line . . .

We're also interested but the LLC course catalog is somewhat confusing. They list Steppin’ Out Ballroom Beginning Classes
6 weeks Fee: P $24 R $27 G $32
Don Wyman & Suzanne Crosby

They then go on to list two courses:

Beginning Classes are for those who have either
never danced before; want to refresh their basic
knowledge of Dance Fundamentals prior to attending
the Continuing Class; or just want to see what they
have been missing.

• Beginning Foxtrot/Waltz2328.301 Tu: Nov. 16- Dec. 21 6:20-7:20pm
VMS, White Bison

• Beginning Rhumba/ Cha Cha2330.301 Tu: Nov. 16- Dec. 21 7:25-8:25pm
VMS, White Bison

Are there actually three (3) courses, or just two, and are they held in VMS White Bison or Allamanda? Have the classes started already because the dates are shown as 11/16-12/21? When did you have to sign up for these classes? You can't sign up on 11/15 for a class starting the next day? Thanks.

Fees:
P is for patrons $24
R is for residents $27
G is for general public $32

I would say there are 2 beginners classes from what you have written:
1 Rhumba/Cha cha
1 Foxtrot/Waltz

I would call the college at 753-3035 for additional information

Thanks, it must have been the hour! I also suspect that the registration period beginning 11/16 is for courses beginning in Jan 2011.
