welcome neighbor!
I hope that you like freeway /road noise 24/7 (on 2 sides), water pump noise 24/7, on going construction for the next 6 months and near total lack of any trees, wildlife, etc...because that's what they don't tell you about Deluna when they sell it over the phone, to those that dont know better.

Do you live in DeLuna, I’ll bet not? Most people complaining about the noise live north of 44.

Not knowing what part of DeLuna you will be living in, I can only say the area we live in should be completely done in a few weeks. It is amazing how fast things happen.

Good luck but supposedly the average villager owns three homes here before deciding on the right one for them.

I live in DeLuna and have no road traffic noise. As for water pump noise, I have no idea what your talking about. Never heard any water pump. There is some construction noise but it will be gone soon. No I don’t have wildlife in my backyard but if you venture outside of your house for a short 2 minute walk, you can find wildlife all over. (Haven’t seen an alligator yet but I’m sure they are there)

Welcome to paradise. You will love it here. We just moved here in March and live in the Village of Hawkins, also close to the parkway. The noise is a non-issue for us and I haven’t yet met anyone who actually lives down here who has complained to me. There are some people on this site who seem to be making a second career out of talking about the noise down south, and most of them live nowhere near here, but they heard it from a friend, who heard it from a friend…… You get the picture.
The southern end of the Villages is growing in very exciting ways. Moving here is one of the best things we have ever done. Don’t listen to the nay-sayers. Just prepare yourself to enjoy your home, the weather, and this amazing lifestyle.

Welcome! If you visit this forum often enough, you will discover there are some regulars, a dozen or more, who love to talk trash and complain. You could buy them lunch at Havana, and give them a $25 gift card to Lowe's. The next day, you might see their post complaining about the free lunch, and that they can't use the Lowe's gift card because they won't drive that far south! In other words...pay no attention to those trying to throw negative waves on your choices. Life in The Villages all about what you make of it. For me, it starts with avoiding negative people. Enjoy the adventure!

Where are you from in MA? We moved down 12 years ago and live in Pennecamp. Best thing we ever did. We came down via Rt 95 to Rt 287 to Rt 78 to Rt 81 to Rt 77 to Rt 26 to Rt 95 to Rt 10 to Rt 75 to Rt 44. Go to AAA and they'll route it for you. This way we avoided the big cities and a lot of traffic and thru the Shenandoah Valley was beautiful. A lot of nice clean rest areas this way. My husband grew up in Quincy and I grew up in Somerville but we lived in Attleboro for 33 years. You will enjoy it here.....NO SNOW!

I do think it's funny how mostly the complainers are people that live north. Deluna is beautiful. I've drive all over the different villages north and south. I live south. Noise doesn't bother me. I like the newer homes and people are great. I have several friends in Deluna and they love it. Don't let negative people take a minute of your time.

We are also here from MA. It’s amazing how big TV actually are and that you will be able to do activities and pools anywhere, you are not confined to your one village as in your old town.
There is a Baystaters Club if you want to meet others that have moved here from MA.

Welcome! You are going to love The Villages. We bought our house in Hawkins (also in the new area) and had never been to The Villages before. Our only regret we didn’t do it years earlier. We moved from Oregon. We love the west coast but the weather wasn’t allowing us to be active all year. Now, we have more activities than time for them. The great thing about living below 44, is it’s a much younger crowd. There is plenty of wildlife. People share their house camera photos online and there are bears, bobcats, and even a Florida panther in the area. It’s also not as congested as the older areas. Wide open spaces with much larger green belts down here. They are starting construction on the new square (called Eastport) and it will be a New England fishing village from what I’m hearing. It will have a man made lake a mile long that the square sits on, to be used for the dragon boat racing. Give this new area 5 years and it will be absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy!

We be still in Woostah, but a FL panther is way cool! I grew up in smallville MA and there were deer, coyotes, bears, bobcats, turkeys and fisher cats in the neighborhood, so a FL panther is a new welcome pet to have in the neighborhood.

While looking at the responses here, I am reminded of all the whining people who love to post on TOTV. Some people need to recalibrate how they look at the world, especially considering that WE LIVE IN A FANTASTIC PLACE where thousands of people move to each year.

Welcome! I moved here in 2001 and never regretted it. My only advice is to take it a little slow. Don't join too many clubs because you could get burned out trying to do it all. Big Dig is "finished".

Latest boondoggle is shutting down the entire Orange line and part of the Green line subway for a full month for repairs, starting next week. An Orange line train caught fire on a bridge over the mystic river a few weeks ago. One woman even jumped into the river from the bridge. About a 100 foot drop.

With lots of people still working from home I don't think the T gets as much ridership as it used to but it's crazy to shut down an entire line for a month.

The entire T is on a Saturday schedule because ridership is down.
Can’t image the people on the Orange line having to take busses. Good luck to them their commute probably doubled.

There are many posts/threads here on driving routes back and forth to NE. There are major routes, subject to construction, congestion and commuter traffic. There are scenic out of the way routes, and really good places to stay 1/2 way if you want to make the drive a two day drive. Only younguns go all the way through during a pandemic (22 hours sucked but never an accident)

If you can drive very early morning or late evenings you can avoid alot of commuter and active construction on the direct routes: 95 most of the way. . .

As a friend of mine with whom I have worked in the same company on and off, "after you retire / move to the Villages, you find out that waiting this long was not worth it, and that most people have more money than they thought they had."

And if you find its not for you, the location or the house, there are plenty of others being built or available for sale

I did the drive last March. I went through Hartford out to Scranton, Pa and then south 81 to 75. I wanted to avoid NY City, Baltimore + DC. I'll never drive 95 again.

The only problem is Atlanta. Not many places where you can hear Siri tell you to "Stay in the left 7 lanes". Plan for extra time to get through/around Atlanta.

We come from the wonderful Berkshires of Western Mass, where we can go just about anyplace without going through a traffic light and the worst traffic we encounter is infrequently getting stuck behind a school bus. We just got home from a long weekend attending a wedding in Gloucester, MA. I can’t comprehend how the folks living in the eastern part of the state can deal with the traffic? I would be happy if I never again had to go on the Mass Pike east of Sturbridge, Rt. 495, 128, 3, 93, 95, etc….. what a cluster$uc&. The Berkshires and the eastern part of the state are like two entirely different worlds.

the last time we went up, aprox 10months ago, the whole mess was still going on, from stamford to the waterbury mix-master. then you get to drive a few miles before you hit the mess on 84 in hartford. it's anybody's guess as to when you arrive @ your destination, i once sat in traffic over 45mins

Commuted into Boston for 32 years from the Lowell area. Retired last Dec. Bought in Linden. Love that area. Welcome.

Maybe you haven't heard of the petition that garnered over 200 signatures about the turnpike noise? Go to the other site and search the word petition.

That is from one area of one Village (Monarch Grove I believe). I can see the trucks on the turnpike out my front door but usually literally hear nothing inside the house. We do hear it on our front lanai but it’s not so loud as to bother us.

There are lots of neighborhoods in the southern area that are not that close at all to the turnpike, yet every time someone mentions buying down here there are the “regulars” that always have to jump on immediately and throw shade on their choice, without even knowing how close they may or may not actually be to the turnpike. There seems to be a narrative that every house everywhere south of the 44 can hear the turnpike noise and nothing could be further from the truth.

We took a drive around DeLuna the other day. It is a beautiful community and it is HUGE so, while there are some houses that are close to the highway there are certainly many more, the great majority I would say, that have enough separation from it that they likely will hear little to nothing.

I don’t know what it is about the idea of our mere existence down here that makes some of you so crazy, but I promise you that the vast majority of us are enjoying our homes and lives here just as much as you are up there in the north and we really don’t need anyone to tell us how we should feel about it. I think we can figure it out for ourselves since we're the ones that actually live down here.

Just bought a home in DeLuna, never been to the villages but can’t wait to get there Sept.17th. Can’t wait to meet you all.

That’s a nice area. Welcome to The Villages. You’ll like it here but you may stop using this site quickly. There are some very negative people here and they’re ALWAYS commenting. You won’t hear any traffic noise or any noise for that matter. You’re so close to Brownwood. PS. I also bought my place without ever seeing it. I think quite a bit of the newer people do.

Isn’t there another thread for folks living north of 44 to bash the south with their noise, etc. posts?

Thanks for the warm welcome

Welcome

I came down from west of Boston...been in TV over 5 years now. Lots to do here to keep you active. Everyone seems to be friendly with everyone else.

There is no good Chinese food anywhere in Florida...not like we had in MA

There are a few MA related clubs here...Red Sox Nation, NE Patriots Fan Club and a Bay State Club

It takes a while to get used to FL...I still miss the fall season, but not raking leaves or the snow and ice that come later.

Have you tried Kayame? Best one we have found here.

Problem with Chinese food is its regional. Close friends own 3 restaurants in different states. Even though they are of same family their entrees while close with same names, but slightly different. It’s about what is available ingredients wise.
Dishes you have in one state, doesn’t exist in another state. We travel a lot for work and out of over 20 states there were only a few dishes that had the same name. However none of them tasted the same or looked the same. One just has to adapt to Asian food in Florida.

Interesting. I would think that spices give the food their particular flavor and would be available nationwide. Ingredients I would imagine are also nationwide with possible differences based on the season.

I think people close to the turnpike do have a problem with noise but than again what did they expect. Think a lot of names on this petition are probably legitimate complaints but do not expect the developer to do what they want at his expense.

I’m in Hawkins and would never consider it noisy. As a matter of fact, my dog sitter stayed for 2 weeks and commented on how quiet it is here. Personally, my only criteria was no major road or multi modal path behind me. That’s what’s so great here, there are plenty of areas to choose from.

In the north we have almond boneless chicken, tempura batter served with a gravy to pour over. Gravy is the same color as their almond cookies.
We have not found named dish, Almond batter or gravy. Spices are part of the dish, the region dictates how it is prepared.

Our son who lives in St Paul, took a sample back home to their local Asian restaurant, while they liked the flavors, it was not their traditional dish, it was a no.

We prefer buffets and in a crowded restaurant the dishes are replenished quickly so food still tasty. However most of the food at a buffet is the same whether you are north or south. Always amazed how many different dishes I have had in China always new ones and how here almost always the same.

Guess they figure we want the same old.

Well as you can see there are grumps (I’m being nice) everywhere, jeez… Don’t let that rain on your parade. DeLuna is a great location! Congratulations! We hope you love The Villages as much as we do!

Just bought a home in DeLuna, never been to the villages but can’t wait to get there Sept.17th. Can’t wait to meet you all.

My husband and I life long Rhode Islanders recently relocated to the lower St. Johns area of The Villages which is not very far from DeLuna. We have no regrets with relocating from R.I. at this time in our lives, or to the area, lot, and model home we purchased in TV. I can't even begin to tell you what a joy it has been to no longer have to deal with the endless home and yard upkeep of the two story colonial style home we lived in for 32 years now owned by a 30 something year old couple expecting their 1st child which the home is perfect for them as it was for us when we were a 30 something year old couple. Please disregard the negative comments to your post as life is way too short to live it seeing the glass 1/2 empty instead of 1/2 full. Regardless of how and where you purchased your home in TV consider yourself as we do fortunate, because living in TV east, west, north, or south is a dream that many people have which for various reasons will never be realized. Best of luck and welcome to TV.
