Guys, you might think it’s cool to hang your left knee or your left foot out of your cart while moving; do you have any idea what’s going to happen if that knee or foot hits an oncoming cart or an immovable object?
Get some common sense…..

...Or a moveable one?
Years back I was driving a pickup truck doing about 60 mph with my left elbow out the window. A hornet hit my forearm hard enough to squash it, driving the stinger deeply and painfully into my arm. Not fun!
Nor would it be fun if one of these leg-out-the-side drivers collected a hornet in the crotchal area.

I sometimes have to go into the other lane when passing one of these jutting legs. That is in a car. I have only seen this maybe once in 17 years being done by a woman.

When I see guys doing this, it reminds me of the New Villagers Meeting we went to when we first moved here. It might have been someone representing the sheriff's office but that doesn't matter. Anyway he warned us to not hang your leg out as some folks found out the hard way that it might end up broken. I always wonder (even if it's "comfortable") why someone would dangle their leg on the outside as well.....manspreading notwithstanding.

Why should anyone give a hoot what someone else does with their body? It's their arm, leg, head or whatever. If they screw it up, they have to live with it. I don't see anybody complaining about other people's tattoos, tongue studs, nose rings, piercings, etc. Personally, I think they are ugly. But it's their body, their life, and if they enjoy it, then "C'est la vie"!

We had a security guard at a plant I used to work at & he was very big on safety especially on golf carts we had in our plant. It was a 2 million sq.ft. building This peticular guard had his leg on the outside of his cart & got to close to another storage bin & caught his knee & pulled his leg back so far that it dislocated his hip. Man he must of been going really fast to do that. After that I don’t think he showed his face out in the plant. I think I always seen him in the guard house! Golf carts are heavy & won’t stop on a dime when catching body parts, believe me body parts will give before anything on a cart will.

It’s called “Man-splaying”, not “Man-spreading”, not to be confused with “Man-splaining”. Yes, it’s an actual thing.
I noticed it within a few months of moving here. I asked my husband about it. He said it’s usually due to men’s big stomachs and being overweight. Their thighs are taking up all the space needed for his junk….so, the junk needs some space. Thus the need to splay themselves.
Hope that helps…. :)

I was born before the tattoo generation. Some tattoos are cringe-worthy. And people ACTUALLY pay money for them. I watched them come into fashion with GREAT surprise. When I was young, you only saw tattoos on drunken, lonely sailors. Fashion can be strange sometimes, I guess.

Manspreading, never heard it described like that. I hung my leg out for years when I had a cart at a campground. In the villages I do it now and again but not when in traffic etc. if I am the only one out there I do it and come 9 PM I am the only one out. No big deal, not sure it is a comfort thing or a habit.

Me neither. Mind-boggling. I have to lean all the way to the window in an uncomfortable position to try it myself, and I have long arms. Again very baffling to see it and I always figure they have some really low IQ.

Years ago, we were coming home in the evening from Spanish Springs and there had been a bad accident. It happened in the round about and the police had us go the opposite way on the round about. It seems a man had his left knee outside his golf cart. He didn't see the stop sign posts that were in the middle of the path. His knee hit the stop sign post and shattered his knee. They air lifted him to a hospital. Very sad.

Please take this in the least snarky tone possible.
I really want to know why you care if someone does this. Most of us as children learned from our mistakes, like touching a hot stove. If this individual gets their leg/foot whacked, my guess is that they will not do it again...
For those of us who may have not learned from our mistakes over our lifetimes, we probably won't reach the age to be able to take advantage of all TV has to offer, right?

If you really need to give guidance to folks about things like this, they probably don't need or will not use the advice anyways. Best to just let them learn on their own (keeping in mind that the age of residents in The Villages indicates they are supposed to have lived a life already).

You imply that there are people driving carts that don't have a "valid excuse" to extend their leg or arm.

Let me take a moment to Man Explain One Very Important FACT! Ever since a little boy was a little boy many have had incidents where they got hit in that very special area. I fell on my bicycle bar and from that day forward I spent the rest of my life protecting the area that the OP brought up.
I also believe that instinctually it is a built-in instinct to cover up and do whatever is needed to keep yourself safe in that area. If we drive by someone whose jimmy is in imminent danger there isn't much that can be done cause I'm going in the other direction. Get over this. Men have themselves covered, don't worry bout it.
Some people don't have anything to protect. They are the ones who hide behind a computer screen all day.

Personally I’m not concerned in the least as to their manhood area. Yes cover up please but the core issue is the leg splaying. The knees…. And the impact to others if sideswiped or hit a solid target.

I hear ya. Anybody who has the other parts cares about the knees the least and the other parts that would be involved as collateral damage are the most important by leaps and bounds.
