I didn't like having to lower my window and reach out with my card or push the Red button when it was raining. Also didn't like opening my window in the dark. So I contacted Joe Striano at 845-542-7365.
He came to the house and placed sensors on my driver's side mirror. Now I pull up to the gate box - wait a second - and voila, the gate opens. He's reliable and reasonable and likeable. Nice to sit in your care and say, "Open Sesame" and have it work.

Then why did you move to a community that required that you do so?

I don't like having to open my glovebox and get out the garage door opener so I sit in my driveway, sound the horn and wait for my wife to open it from inside.

:icon_wink: What we did was duct tape our opener to our front bumper and just keep running into the closed door til the button gets pushed and magically the garage door goes up...... don't have to say "Open Sesame" or anything. ;)

I have my gate opener inside my mirror, but recently I noticed a few gate card readers have been raised and now some of them require me to use the gate card anyway. Seems odd that they actually raised the gate sensors, but I am sure they had a reason.

My SUV has a groove at the top of the door. My gate card fits in the groove, and doesn't interfere with the opening and closing of the driver side window. It opens all gates, except the ones in the older Villages, where the sensor is about 8 inches higher. No need to open the window. I covered it with back cardboard, so it is virtually invisible from outside the vehicle.

We don't open our window for the sensor....just hold it and the gates will open. The concept of having one put on vehicles is o.k. until one sells the car and needs another one for the new car. As for the garage door opener...ours has a clip that we put on the sun-visor and never have to search for it in a glove box. BOTH of these is easy-peasy solutions.

I've heard most of these things. Working through a closed window, mine does not.
Reason-beats me. Type of glass in the car? Burning out the window motor. I think the way it is made you stall out the motor when you close it. Let go of the switch as soon as possible when the window is closed.

There is a law you can't use your cell phone while driving. Hum they try to legislate COMMON SENSE. Play with the GPS, the radio, the cd player, the ac that is all ok IF YOU CAN FIND THE CONTROL without peeking at the road and other cars..

I also just place the card in the groove in the door and don't open the window and all the gates that I frequently go through, open. Our car has a button on on the rear view mirror that is programmed to open the garage door. Really easy peasy.

They are easily remove, if you want to remove them...

As for getting another one for a new car, it's $25. Is that a deal breaker?

I bought the gizmo that allows you to clone the info on the card onto a little white disc, so I could make one for myself, and my wife and friends. They work great, however, in my wife's Honda CRV I could not get the little disc to fit into the side-view mirror.
I hadn't thought about finding some alternate spot for it.
I do hold the card against the glass, and that seems to work fine MOST (but definitely not ALL) of the time.

My buddy has a Honda Pilot, and he has the disc in the side-view mirror. It works about as well as the method of holding the card to the window, which is to say, it works most of the time, but certain gates just won't read it, and at some he has to drive that side-view mirror about an inch from the reader. It's fun to watch him do that.

FYI...the gate pass works right thru the glass...no need to open the window or get one of those gadgets

I did the same and enjoy using mine in a 2020 Honda CRV. I installed 3 discs in different positions inside the mirror to then work at any gate.

Ever pay for a new motor for a power window? $25 is cheap instead of three or four hundred dollars.

My Chevy Equinox came with programable buttons which can operate the garage door(s) and other devices. This is more efficient than beeping the horn and hoping the wife will open the door for you.

Can you post a link to where to buy the “gizmo”? Thanks.

Here is the gizmo. You can buy the discs separately, and I would suggest you buy the largest ones you can find, because the small ones don't work very well in the mirror.

WOW. Such an inconvenience. How often do you come through a gate when it’s raining: a half dozen times a year? And even if it’s more, it’s such a problem that you need to put an window down and have your arm outside the window for ten seconds or less.

Our card does not trigger the sensor 1/3 of the time through the window. We get close to the sensor, but still…. We simply put the window down and…. No big deal.

As an aside and reason why I don’t mind putting the window down. I bought a used Mercedes in 1990 or so, it was about 6 years old. After I bought it I realized both rear windows did not power down. Grrr. Brought it to a repair shop and they told me that this was typical of luxury cars. So many drivers simply never use the power windows in the back. And after some time the motors freeze or such. Had to have both rear door motors replaced…$$$
So from that time on I don’t mind using the power windows and put the rear ones down every couple weeks. Like use it or lose it???

The card worked through the window on my previous car (2018 Honda Pilot ) but will not work through my Tesla window.

The passenger side and driver side windows on the Tesla are double pane windows for noise abatement so I’m sure that the window type is a factor….

If the developer wasn't so damn cheap, everyone would have a decal so no one would have to open their window!

I have it too because of a friend. She keeps her cars a lot longer than I do. She has had her window fixed twice so far. She had a gate card where she used to live and had the same car with her when she moved here The repairman told her that opening and closing your window constantly will eventually lead to it not working any more. I think it burns out. She sells real estate and enters different villages every day. If you keep your car a long time you might want to consider doing this. It was interesting to watch how he was able to turn that automatic window almost completely around. He said it is made to do that if it ever needs to be repaired. This is who I had install mine and they are licensed and insured.

Please post the license type and license number for Tri Line Services. I have never been able to find any evidence that the company or the owner has any business license in Florida.
