Welcome, Festus!

We also will be in Buttonwood. Our place is on the cul-de-sac (south) portion of Claverton. We'll be there for a week in Dec. then again in Jan/Feb. It seems to be filling up quickly!

Claverton is my cross street. I am friendly with Bobbie and Mike who live on the culd-de-sac. Which house is yours? Bobbie and Mike have a great view of the golf course. They have the Bridgeport in the center of the culd-de-sac. Great people. I actually had dinner with them tonight tonight and played golf with Mike on Thursday. You are going to love TV.

WE SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF OPEN SPACES BECAUSE OF THE MANY GOLF COURSES AROUND HERE. i LIVE IN WHAT WE CALL "BUTTONWOOD HEIGHTS." IT IS THE FIRST UNIT ON THE RIGHT AS YOU TURN ON TO BUTTOWOOD RUN. WE HAVE A NICE LITTLE AREA WITH A LOT OF CUL DE SACS AND SHORT THROUGH STREETS. I LIVE ON VALLEY OAK (WILL ONLY BE 9 HOUSES) AND THERE ARE FEW PEOPLE HERE YET. MORE SEEM TO BE MOVING IN EVERY DAY. WE HAVE BUTTONWOOD SOCIALS WHICH ARE ALWAYS ABOUT 150 PEOPLE. WE NEED TO START GETTING A BIGGER ROOM. A LOT OF STUFF IS ORGANIZED ALREADY. WE WILL SOON BE GETTING A WEBSITE ALSO. GREAT 50-60S DANCE LAST NIGHT! :welcome: HOPE TO MEET YOU ALL SOMETIME!

We are going to be snowbirds so we bought a small (Patio Villa) property.

Only reservation I had was lack of shopping/restaurants/commercial development at the SE end of TV. I assume that will change with all the building in that area and in Brownwood.

Looking forward to golfing with some of you (if I ever figure out that resv system).

Any Illini/Big Ten fans in the area? I need to decide on cable/Direct TV pros and cons.

I need to decide on cable/Direct TV pros and cons.
FWIW:

If you have DirecTV back home, read further: You can call their "Mover's Connection" toll-free number (877) 616-MOVE (6683) to arrange an antenna installation at your TV home. Make sure you bring your receivers (all of them) from home along with the 110v cords and the remotes and have your new televisions set up in your villa. They'll hook you up just like it was a new installation - - - except you provided the receivers! You call their regular 800 number to have them switch your local service area to TV - do the same when you leave to go back home. That controls where you're getting your local channels from - the TV area or back home. THERE ARE NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES/FEES FOR THIS. And the antenna install is free....for "standard installation", that is. If you want the antenna installed on a short pole in the ground, there's usually an up-charge for that. Anyways, this set-up should work perfectly for snowbirds. Thus it's like having a single DirecTV service/account......only you can use it at two locations. Hence the reason to take all your receivers to TV - they won't allow concurrent service at the two locations.

And if you don't have DirecTV service back home, maybe it's worth switching.

Like Bill-n-Brillo, I like Directv also. I have cable in TV and use it when I'm there, and Directv when back north. I find Directv to be head and shoulders above cable. I find the picture quality better(I'm told it has to do with signal compression) and I'll be able to get regional sport channels in TV. Downside is you won't get the Villages channel, but you can get it online. I plan on switching over to Directv when we move down full time. And as far as being to far away from things, you'll be away from a lot of traffic, and you're only a nice cart ride away!

Well, we made it down to The Villages last Thursday through Sunday, started looking at homes on Thursday afternoon with sales agent Tommy I. and ended up selecting our new house 4 hours later. New home will be located in Pennecamp, off of Pennecamp Drive (1748), close on the 20th of December, but moving down on the 11th staying with brother-in-law who has house in BonnyBrook.

Is Bottonwood somewhat more isolated? Where is shopping and the town squares in relation to this area?

Is Bottonwood somewhat more isolated? Where is shopping and the town squares in relation to this area?

Buttonwood is between SR 466 and SR 466A, SW of Pennecamp, towards the SW portion of TV..........as TV currently exists. The closest Town Square today is Lake Sumter Landing, which is not all that far away. As new construction continues south of 466A, Buttonwood will be pretty much equidistant from the new Brownwood square and LSL. In addition to shopping, etc. that's in LSL, there's some shopping at Colony Plaza Shopping Center which is currently in the far SE corner of the existing development.

Hope that helps! :)

Here's a little more of a perspective of what's planned for Brownwood, plus an additional shopping area that will be adjacent to it called Amtrim Dells:

http://www.thevillagescommercialproperty.com/prop-brownwood.asp

http://www.thevillagescommercialproperty.com/prop-Antrim%20Dells.asp
Brownwood's on the right, Antrim Dells is on the left (both shaded in brown)

Granted, Buttonwood won't be within immediate walking distance of shopping, current or future. But there's going to be a bunch of stuff just a short golf cart ride away!! :MOJE_whot:

I live in Buttonwood and Lake Sumter is 5.2 miles away/ It takes about 15 minutes by golf cart to reach town. Brownwood might be a little closer when it is finished. If you are considering Buttonwood/Pennecamp area don't allow distance discourage you.

I forgot to mention that there are PLENTY of stores and restaurants, etc. where Buena Vista Blvd. intersects 466, north of Buttonwood. A little bit longer ride than getting to LSL but there is a bunch of stuff up there!

A new smaller shopping area is coming on 466A -- next to the new County building. It will have a Sweetbay + other stores. Down Buena Vista, right on 466A to the next intersection (CR 462/135).

My bad - I stand corrected. Wonder if it'll be golf cart accessible?

Seems like there might be some other commercial development coming up along 466A west of Buena Vista as well. Time will tell!

My guess is yes -- you will cross 466A in the tunnel east of Buena Vista, then go down the cart trail to the first tunnel under the new part of Buena Vista and go west from there (none of this is open to carts yet but you can see what's happening if you travel down there by car or bike.).

I've read that golf carts will be able to get to the new county bldg, the one with the gold dome in about a year, so the other commercial developments will be accessable as well.

Congrats on closing on your new home. You will certainly enjoy living here.

Personally, I chose to buy a re-sale home when I bought a year ago. It is a golf front home on the Glenview Fox Run course. House was built in 2002 and has mature landscaping and everything you could want - most of which is not included as standard in new houses - such as built-ins, pull-out cabinets, and other upgrades. There is no construction going on around us. PLUS the bond is almost all paid off!!

I was able to negotiate with the seller for a better price and I do not believe the new homes are negotiable.

I think new buyers should have a Villages Realtor as well as an outside Realtor so they can see all the homes - both new and re-sale - and both those listed with Villages Realty and outside Realtors.

We closed on our Dorst Lane Gardenia in Buttonwood on December 3 and spent the next several days arranging to get some furniture and meet with all those who show you all about your new home. Fortunately, my wife got to spend some time at the Buttonwood pool (Saturday and Sunday last week were warm and pleasant).

I spent more time in furniture stores this week than the rest of my 67 years combined. We managed to purchase a bed (frame, boxspring and mattress), a couch and 4 bar stools. Our major applicance purchase was a radio.

Unfortunately we had to return to Connecticut yesterday and won't be back for a while.

If you are a Pats fan, plan on getting DirecTV or Comcast (I think) so you can watch them at home. With three NFL teams in Florida it is a rare day we get to see the Pats unless they are on Sunday/Monday night football or playing a Florida team. I am not sure about Comcast. Will be switching to DirecTV once our contract period expires with DishTV.

Just get the NFL redzone. That way you can watch almost every meaningful play of every game. Comes standard with most Direct and Dish packages and is included in the cheap sports pack on Comcast. The only way I watch NFL on Sunday now!

Curt Schilling and his bloody sock

When we're down, hopefully full time in 2011, I'll be bringing down my home theater setup, and you are welcome to come over and watch Boston battle (beat) N.Y. in all sports, anytime. It's my pride and joy, as I've been an electronics fan for years.

Duey Evans was a great player and the best arm in right field since Clemente. Fred Lynn could have been something special if he didn't get hurt so often. Lynn was as ggod as it gets when he was healthy. What ever happened to Marty Barrett? They said he was the best baseball mind when he played and that he'd make agreat manager some day. He just disappeared. The Rocket - whether it be with the Bosox, Blue Jays or Yankees was an egotisicial maniac. Jim Rice was a feared hitter and I saw no problem with him making the Hall ofFame. So no, Larry. I don't hate the Red Sox or its fans. Just like to bust chops. I'll take you up on that offer of watching your home movie theater. Hope you have some films on Ted Williams. Have a Happy New Year.

Sadly, I do remember Bucky Dent, but two world series rings later have helped that memory heal!
