After Charles 3rd dies and William becomes king, will he be William 3rd?
I assume my ancestor William the Conqueror became King William 1st and maybe William (of William and Mary) was William 2nd, so I guess that would make the current Prince of Wales William 3rd when he takes over.
It is interesting Charles and Diana named their sons William and Harold. William the Conqueror defeated and killed King Harold at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Maybe those names are a sign the brothers will not get along well in the future.

William is King material. Harry is a total loser who strongly resembles James Hewitt.

William gets to pick his “King” name. Elizabeth and Charles just happened to select their given first name.
If William dies before Charles, William’s 3 kids are in the succession - George is next in line.
Harry is after William’s 3 kids, so he’s 5th now.

I'm not sure that is correct. Harry is in the original blood line. He's up next after William. I could be wrong, though.

Actually Prince Harry’s name is not Harold, it’s Henry - Henry Charles Albert David. Harry is a nickname.

And yet in todays world you don’t think any child born to be in line for the throne is not tested at birth. Harry seems to take after His mothers side, with his features and red hair.
Princess Dianna, prior to wedding went through the barbaric exam to make sure she was a virgin. So testing linages of offspring would have been done immediately

Four (So far).
"William I of England, better known as William the Conqueror. He reigned from 1066 to 1087.
William II from 1087 to 1100, while William I, King of Scots, was in the position from 1165 to 1214. He was better known as William the Lion.
William of Orange was simultaneously William III of England and William II of Scotland from 1689 to 1702.
And William IV of the United Kingdom reigned from 1830 to 1837."

William's full name is William Arthur Philip Louis, and he can choose any of those 4 as his "King" name.
There have been 4 previous "King William" and no actual UK King with any of the other 3 names. If he chooses one of those he be the First. If he chooses William, he'd be the V.

Through marriage (so my parents informed me years ago), I'm related to the Duke of Windsor, aka King Edward VIII, the king that abdicated. If succession comes down to me, please note: I don't want the job!:D

Williams 3 kids are next in order of age, eldest to youngest, then Harry and then Harry’s kids after him. The strangest part of it all is, Elizabeth’s daughter, Charles sister, is so far down the line. Those on the throne do not always take on their own name as their Regnal names. Elizabeth and Charles both did, but Elizabeth's father, King George the VI's pre-regent name was Albert and he was known as Bertie. Same with his brother, the abdicated King Edward was David pre-regent.
The female progeny of the Regent have always been pushed down the line of succession by their brother's offspring, and female siblings were bypassed by males in the line.
UNTIL 2013 when the updated succession act essentially ended male primogeniture.
Female siblings are no longer bypassed by males. That is why Prince William's daughter, Charlotte, remains in the line ahead of her younger brother Louis. Because she was born AFTER 2013. Since the Princess Royal, Queen Elizabeth's daughter, Anne, was born prior to 2013, she remained by passed by her brothers Andrew and Edward and their progeny.
The other thing that the 2013 Act did was remove the former provision (which was in place since 1772) which prevented Catholics from being in the line of succession or eventually ascending to the throne.
