We bought a house where the previous owner painted the driveway (versus stain) and was told that the paint needs to be removed before the driveway can be stained. We were given a quote and told we could go on this forum to get the name(s) of someone who removes paint from driveways. I performed a search but couldn't find anyone. Please let me know of someone you know of that does good work removing paint from driveways.

We had Driveways by Jay (through Hometown Servies) do the removal of old paint and the refinishing of our lanai. He used another contractor for the grinding of the concrete, and I did not get their name, but the whole process was coordinated. We are very happy his work, in fact he did our driveway, and birdcage 8 and 6 years ago and both still look great. Feel free to send contact info by PM if you woud like to discuss or see his work.

I do not understand why. Our previous home, not in Florida our drive was a poor mix-bad job. We had it removed and re-poured. I would expect grinding it and adding a top layer would be close to the same price. Adding a thin brick facing is common, Many, seem to fail

We used KLEANER Image, Inc, floor restoration specialist out of Orlando. 407-232-0978. They were recommended by the company that textured our driveway. They did a good job and cleaned up well afterward. Price was something like $1.25 per square foot a few months ago.

I'm also in a quandary regarding my worn out stained driveway. What to do, what to do... I want the option to power wash it since it gets moldy from dirt and gunk build up, but power washing damages what's on it.

The company we spoke with to stain the driveway said that if I went on Talk of The Villages, I'd be able to get some recommendations for companies that remove driveway paint for a lot less than what their subcontractor charges.

removing the paint should cost you about $1 per square foot. I wouldn't pay more than that.

This sounds like someone used real paint ans not the specialized concrete stains. This was the exact problem we had, and the only way to solve to was the complete removal for the old coating, either sandblasting or grinding, we went with grinding. Please do not try to repair or recoat over the existing finish, it will not last.

Do you know if the driveway is slippery when wet?

Call Thoney Hilario. Owns Concrete Artistry 352-551-5297. I have used and recommended him several times with Excellent results. Tell him Gary from Azalea recommended him. He grinds old finishes off if needed or can finish your concrete from original state. Also, re-seals finished concrete which is recommended every 2-3 years.
