With DirecTv one of the issues was when a storm would pass over the dish would loose it’s signal. An option was to switch to Standard Definition, if it had the signal, until the storm passed. Now, as long as you have an internet/WI-FI connection they offer a “KEEP WATCHING” selection which switches to their HD streaming service until the dish signal returns. Now no interrupted viewing. I have the dish because it offers some channels and the NFL Package that DirecTv’s Streaming service does not offer.

That's a step in the right direction but what happens when you're recording something, away from home, and we get a heavy rain? That was my primary reason for leaving DirecTV after 20+ years. It was fine in MI, a little worse in GA, and unusable here in FL in rainy season.

For something important I will record in HD and SD which solve the problem 98% of the time. Also most channels have an on demand for shows that were missed or in this case had the recording interrupted. Because we like the DirecTv sports packages, especially NFL, this works for us.

I kept DirecTV just for NFL package for quite a long time. I finally decided it wasn't worth spending 3x the money just for that, and using SD in this day and age is simply not a solution for me. That is unwatchable TV.
