View Full Version : AirBnB ..Porn Movie Production

Airbnb rented out for one month. Unknowingly it became the set for a series of Porn movies.. This happened across the street from a friend of mine living in Winter Park Fl. Of course the Airbnbs have rules and guidelines but who really enforces them. Most owners are out of town or in this case living in another country. House parties and Drug cartels set up shop , sell their poison and move on …no protection for us Villagers

There are always lots of Villages houses and rooms available for rent on Airbnb, sometimes more than a hundred. The worst thing that can happen is a house party. Some renters will rent a house for the weekend and advertise and charge admission for the party on social media. The house can be destroyed.
The only way to prevent it is to prohibit short term rentals and to actually enforce it.

A ring doorbell can let owners know of how many comings and goings occur. An alert for parties but maybe not for porn production except for the cast may give it away.

A piece of duct tape over the camera lens can solve that problem.

It is a shame private homes in neighborhoods have become motel rooms.

AIR BnB’s totally suck for the residents in the neighborhood. We had a woman, who was renting long term, running a horrible operation out of the home. I contacted community standards to report she was violating two deed restrictions, running a business out of the home and not using the home as a single family residence. They agreed, but informed me it is an internal deed violation, which is enforced by the developer, not community standards. They transferred me to a representative of the developer, who also acknowledged two deed restrictions were being violated, unfortunately they looked the other way and opted not to enforce these particular violations. Apparently, enforcing these deed restrictions doesn’t sync up with maximizing the demand pool of potential home buyers for the new homes they are building as fast as they can. Makes one wonder why they have deed restrictions at all, when they choose to selectively enforce them. Talk about the fox watching the hen house.
I decided to go another route, and contacted the absentee owner of the home and explained to him what his tenant was up to and he was furious. As it turned out, she was renting month to month so he tossed her out the next month and our neighborhood is again back to normal. Happy ending until the next inconsiderate person decides to start up an AIR BnB in the neighborhood.

The duct tape person would be on camera. Also, that would be a red flag for the owners if their camera went black.

Energy monitors and water monitoring give you great insight on what is happening in your home. It is not personally identifiable as video images are, which is good, however it gives you enough to identify with great accuracy how many are living in your home.
It should surprise no one that people of all ages, races and sex behave in predictable ways at their home or rental. Energy monitors tell you what is/has been operating, people wash clothes in predictable ways/per person.
I charged 50.00/person for over two occupancy. I could spot who was lying, I didn't re-rent or extend for them. The neighbors confirmed my monitoring.
After a hurricane scare, I couldn't reach anyone, I checked the monitor, they were making coffee and toast. No one makes coffee if there is a problem.
Yes, the technology is that good.

We read about this more than we like-- violations that are in the developer's bailiwick but not addressed. But perhaps some have been. If the developer would make public violations they enforced (again, if any), doing so might serve notice to other rule-breakers and give the rest of us a bit of confidence that the developer cares. Otherwise, as the OP said, what's the point of having these rules?

True, but there is no way that an illegal party scammer would allow their customers to be video recorded on a Ring doorbell. They could just come in the back door. I have even noticed that, since I got a Ring doorbell, the Amazon delivery people often try to avoid the camera. Go figure.

Not sure why a Amazon person would try to avoid cameras, ours takes a picture of every package, and his reflection from front door capture them. UPS and FedEx don’t take pics, but why hide, their name is on the delivery route
I regular Amazon guy waves at our cameras and says have a great day.

I don't know. Maybe it is just my perception. But, usually, my camera doesn't capture the delivery person, but does capture other visitors. They do take a photo of the package. I get Amazon packages 3 or 4 times a week, but I don't have a regular Amazon person. On another thread, many posters said that the Amazon person rings their doorbell, like they are supposed to do. But, they never ring my bell or knock.

The developer should enforce regulations on rentals. Why not send the Morse family your concerns intead of writing to Talk of the Villages? Perhaps they are unaware of the issues.

A lot of people work out of their homes. For example, accountants, attorneys, sellers of products such as Shakley, Avon, health card products, jewelry, clothing lines, etc. I would assume if all done orderly and not disruptive to neighbors there would not be a problem. I’ve been in The Villages since 1998 and this has always been part of the community. Maybe now on a somewhat larger scale, but many need to augment their income! Just my thoughts …

My daughter and her family have rented for a week at a time. Are you saying they shouldn't be allowed to do this. There are lots and lots of houses in TV that rent by the week. And I think there may be some that rent by the day, maybe just for a weekend.
My neighbor behind me rented his for a week and it was one loud party week. Caused my dog to bark at their noise and they had the nerve to call community watch on me.
These people also destroyed parts of the house. Knocked holes in the walls, left a big mess.
Our neighbors immediately took it off the rental market.

This gives some good advice. I doubt if this happens a lot here in the Villages unless it is in a neighborhood where many are snow birds.
Our neighbors across the street can see pretty much everything that goes on. At least, with respect to who is going in- and-out. Of the house anyway.

They don't read every post (except they seem to read every one of mine!). I'm having posts deleted that have ZERO to do with politics, aren't insulting, nor do they break and of the posted rules.
I've asked them why, but I've yet to get a response...
They seem to let some things slide and crack down on others...
I, too, got a vacation for simply mentioning the name of a certain Northeastern ex-Governor...
Sometimes, it's due to people reporting posts.

How in the hell would you know whether or not there actually was such happening behind closed doors? All of this talk and not one ounce of proof. If your focus is more on what your neighbor may or may not be doing behind closed doors, then you are the classic definition of a “Karen”!

Probably because they post the porno on the various places on the web where people pay to see it. And then the rental owner recognized the house. Or, someone familiar with porno sites and that house.

So lets say you rent your house out for filming of a movie.
Years ago got to watch a Woody Allan film being made and it was fascinating.
Can you charge neighbors for admission? For those on a fixed income might be a way to help out given inflation.
