Fish and chips vary a lot here. Some places give you several smaller pieces of fish while others give you one big piece. Some serve steak fries while others serve shoestring. We enjoyed the fish and chips at Blue Fin. Thought the fish and chips at Fenney Grill were gross.

There are a lot of good places for fish and chips in or near the Villages. My favorite places are Lopez Country Club (and the Pool Bar and Grill) and Havanna Country Club!

Can I ask which kind of fish chips they serve at Blue Fin?
We like thinner fries and prefer smaller pieces of fish, although the last is not a game changer so much as the thickness of the fries are.

I hate to admit it, but, I really haven't tasted much difference between the fish and chips served at the sit down restaurants and a fish sandwich and fries at McDonald's or Wendy's. Wendy's fish, when available, is very good. And, the cost is about 75 percent less.

The fish is beer battered haddock. The fries are regular square cut fries. Smaller than steak fries, but not thin fries.

I like fish, but fried fish all seems to taste the same. I don't like it when the crust falls off of the fish when you eat it. I definitely prefer Wendy's fries to most of the fries they serve at the sit down restaurants. And, I am never impressed with the cole slaw at any restaurant.

Didn’t mean to be a SA, but I don’t know how you can compare fast food fish to something like Havana serves. If it’s cost you are looking at then I get it, I think. Of course I’m a fried fish person. You might try Chilean Sea Bass cooked in parchment paper, my wife’s favorite.

Most fried fish in The Villages is not worth getting. It's all the same, and varies from terrible to OK. The main issue is that it might be good one week, and when you go back, it's terrible the next. O'Shucks is the most consistent, fish is more on the OK to good as opposed to terrible.
If you're up for a drive, the fish and chips at Half Wall in Deland is the best I've had in central Florida. We've been there twice in the past month, and it's been very good both times. They have seasoned fries - not thick steak fries, nor thin shoestring fries, more like Wendy's fries, but with a seasoning on them. Prices are very reasonable as well. 76 beers on tap!
While you're in Deland, there's also a great brewery there called Persimmon Hollow. Fantastic beers and great atmosphere!

I’ve eaten “fish and chips” perhaps a hundred times in the U.S., but I’ve never had any I consider REAL fish and chips like the ones made by Pakistanis at Carfax Fish and Chips when I was studying at Oxford. I’ve had good fish, and sometimes good batter on that fish, but the chips here are NOT right, ever. I love great American fries, and there are lots of kinds of fries that are great, but American fries are NOT what real fish and chips are supposed to have. They should be soggy, pale, served in paper, and with lots of salt and vinegar on them as well as on the fish. NEVER catsup, and NEVER tarter sauce.
That said, I’ve had the “fish fingers” at the Tierra del Sol Country Club Restaurant and found them very large and very tasty. Biggest “fingers” I’ve ever seen. I found the “fish and chips” at Blue Fin regrettable. (I have nothing against using tarter sauce with fish, and I love catsup with fries—or fries with my catsup. It’s just that REAL fish and chips MUST use salt and vinegar ONLY. Also, I’ve eaten at supposed British fish and chip places in the US and been sorely disappointed.)

My husband tried Fish and Chips at McGrady’s and Little Fin ( inside the Food Market). Both use Haddock, Little Fin excellent. I tried the Haddock tacos, in my opinion they were awful. We will go back to Little Fin for fish and chips but will take them home, The Market is too noisy.

I thought that "chips" were the portion of the batter that falls off during the frying process. At least that's what happens when I have fried cod fish in beer batter at home a few times. Those little morsels are delicious.

I lived for 2 years across the road from a fish and chips place in Scotland. The chips as mentioned above are the way they are served over there and I prefer. Malt vinegar and salt is a must. I have never had the chips done the way I like here. It never should be just french fries but chunks of potato. I was told the fish is always Cod.

Had O'Shucks "Friday fish fry" this week for the first time. Was $11.99. Very large piece of tender haddock with a nice light and crispy batter. Excellent lightly coated french fries and a delicious large serving of coleslaw on the side to go with it. Malt vinegar was promptly provided once requested. They had a handful of the typical domestic beers on tap for $2. Looked to be a 12oz mug so still a decent deal.
I know the place looks somewhat sketchy on the outside, but was surprisingly clean with reasonable decor on the inside.
I will definitely return.
