My guess is that rebooting the modem did nothing. It would have come back on anyway. I didn't reboot my modem.

Note that if you have Xfinity cable TV with a cable box, you don't need an internet connection to watch TV. That is one of the advantages of not cutting the cord.

Our Xfinity service has been intermittent for a few hours, on TV the picture or sound stop, highly dependent on the channel being watched. The internet and telephone (yes we have landline) hove cutout several times, tried a modem reboot with no significant change. Seems to be better recently (Wed 5 pm). All of this in the area of the village of Pinellas.

Is that actual landline, or cable phone service or VoIP? Actual landline shouldn't go out for minutes here and minutes there.

I've been suspicious of our xfinity landline since they made us dial 352 for local numbers. Just not the same. I don't mind overpaying as long as I get something different(like not having to dial 352).
Internet has been going off for a few minutes but cable TV is OK.

No need to be suspicious. Xfinity doesn't sell a real analog landline service. They sell a digital service that connects a phone line to a phone jack on the back of the Xfinity modem. If you want a real old fashioned analog phone service, you need to buy it from a telephone company that will deliver the service to your house using a separate, low voltage wire that will not depend on your house power or the Xfinity COAX cable. And, it will not go down when your house power is out. But, you may still need to dial 352 to make a local call because even the analog phone systems have gone to the 10 digit dialing system.

We're glued to the Weather Channel and the signal has dropped out a few times. Let's remember, even if you're on cable, the programming is being beamed from the news site to satellites and back down. Atmospheric interference can effect the signal going up to the satellite and back down. High winds can mess with the receiving dishes at the cable company's network center.
By the way, do you think Jim Cantore gets hazardous duty bonuses or does he do it for the glory?:a20:

Xfinity Internet and cable TV have been going in and out for the last couple of hours in Fenney. Last a couple of seconds to couple of minutes.

It’s an internet phone, not a traditional landline, just as your Cel phone is. It needs the area code as do cel phones. You don’t have a real land line anymore.

I was just making the point that the Xfinity system is designed so that, if the internet service is interrupted by Xfinity for a short period of time, and then it is restored, your internet service will come back on automatically without the need to reboot the modem. That is the way it is designed to function. It happened that way several times today. If you have additional information, I am always interested in learning something new.

And why is this important enough to post.? Just asking for a friend who doesn't understand the "need" for this kind of post.
Because he was bored ??
And wanted to start an argument about whether it’s necessary to re-boot the modem to restore service ?
And he wanted to - - - -(fill in the blanks)
BTW , I had a few intermittent outages yesterday and I DID NOT have to re-boot anything. It comes back on its own …. ;)

Because it helps the rest of us understand each other’s situation, the provider’s reliability, and even just “hear” the voices of our forum Villagers and know that they are safe.

Well, this is a discussion forum about the Villages. It's accessed primarily via the internet. Xfinity is an internet service provider. If Xfinity is having sporadic problems in parts of the Villages, it's probably useful information to know, for people who have Xfinity in other parts of the Villages. So when their internet craps out, they can say "oh yeah - that guy in Mission Hills said he was having problems. Maybe it's related" instead of wondering or trying to unplug everything and plug it all back in thinking the problem is inside the house.

I was trying to figure out why our "Comcast" yesterday was uninterrupted, then I remembered that we didn't try to use it. We watched the local channels over the air with our attic antenna.
