It's nice and sunny out ... I think Ian practically missed us, 2 inches of rain and not much wind and the roads have dried out. WTF is going on with The Villages? Why are all the courts are still locked up ... except one tennis court where it looks like someone that works for The Villages found the key and has opened it so they could play, nice... I see no effort being put into cleanup going on near me or anywhere near the rec-center or the courts, in fact I haven't seen anyone that works at the rec-center since last Tuesday. OK, I'm venting because I'm a little frustrated ... just want to get out an play some pickleball because I've been couped up for a couple of days... I guess I'll have to wait until next Monday!

You should go to districtgov.org and sign up for some of the notifications; you would then know that the rec centers are scheduled to open tomorrow. I have no explanation for why things are still closed (rec centers, pools, library, etc) but at least I knew it was happening.

Life is hard and so unfair ....... sometimes. Patience is a virtue. All will be open soon. Relax with a cold drink and some tv and have a good day. That is what I'm doing.

Maybe occupy yourself going out in your village and seeing if anyone needs help with their lanai furniture that was moved to the garage. Have a pressure washer? Volunteer to clean a neighbors lanai while it is empty. Help clean a pond.

Click bait?? Guess you should have been here then for Irma when many places were closed for weeks. We did miss the bullet here but there's more to keeping up the community than meets the eye. Maybe you should shadow workers here for a week---a month, then sit back and relax. What you're complaining about is First World Problems. IF you want to be busy, maybe volunteer on the gulf coast and help those less fortunate than us. Depending where we live---more than 2 inches fell. At our house I think it was 5+ and some reported 7+ Take a drive and look at the retention pools.

If OP would have been a jumper off his roof, during Irma closures. :1rotfl: Guess he doesn’t understand that each facility has to be inspected before anything is opened. Plus not fair to open one at a time, open all when inspection’s are complete

First world problems. Just think about those folks whose homes were washed away with the storm surge. Get some perspective, please.
I've noticed in my area (Mallory Square) that all the palm fronds have been moved off the roads and MMPs. That is progress already to have those roadways passable. It will take time. Be patient.

So, your local rec center didn't open yesterday! You still are alive. Twenty plus Floridians were not so lucky. You couldn't play pickle ball Friday. Think of the people whose worlds got blown away in the last few days. You are alive, but a bit inconvenienced, but you are ALIVE. Thank you god.

We saw many many trucks and workers out doing clean up yesterday. The grounds are a mess, they have a huge job ahead of them. Some trees down, sink holes etc. maybe you should use this time to pray for the families that lost everything and the lives lost!

If you have some cheese, you can serve it with your whine. Thanks for reminding us how lucky we are and how much we have to be thankful for this week. Pray for those less fortunate from Florida to North Carolina and for you (unless the real purpose was to get us to think of others in which case mission accomplished. )

Not all if the district employees live in the Villages. They have home and personal lives to desk with.
Look at what happened to the rest of the state and chill out for a few days. Your inconvenience is minor. Take a deep breath and chill

Excellent answer.
We have friends who work at 2 rec centers. Both were shocked to get calls bitching about the pools & courts not being opened. Some people are so self centered.
Don’t seem to realize or care that chairs have to be cleaned & put back out, pools cleaned & water treated, fronds picked up, etc.
We have much to be grateful for. As said “patience”

I took a drive through the north end Thursday afternoon and looked at the nastiness. Although we are blessed that we truly got the light side of a CAT5 storm, it's gonna take all hands on deck to get the small debris outof the nooks and crannies that we have here (pools, pickleball courts, parking lots, etc.) before the expected reopening on Saturday. I really feel bad that Ian inconvenienced you. At least you don't have your boat in the neighbor's yard, or your home floating down the canal like so many on the Southwest coast. I know! Call the CDD and volunteer to help by starting at your rec. center! Community Involvement! Grab a trash bag, Dave.

Did I miss the official announcement of a Statewide or County-wide day of mourning with all but essential services closed?
Yes, a bad hurricane hit another part of the state and many people are hurting and in terrible conditions right now. But please explain how that required closing the library or the movie theater or the pool or the pickle ball courts or the rec centers. Or explain how all the closings will help those people.
I can recognize the plight of those affected by the storm and have sympathy for their conditions and still expect government and services in the areas NOT affected to continue to operate.
The explanation that chairs need to be reset and pools need to be cleaned makes sense. Parking lots might also need to be cleared and damage to facilities needs to be evaluated and repaired and that could explain a delay in reopening. But stop the virtue signalling of excusing the delayed opening on some sort of solidarity with those affected by a natural disaster that missed this area.

Also consider that most of the folks who will be performing the repairs and clean up live outside of TV and may not have been as lucky as you and are faced with their own clean up and transportation challenges. Or they have kids who's schools are closed on Friday. Clean up will take some time.

I don't consider it 'virtue signaling' to point out to the original poster that he comes across as childish, selfish and self-centered. Yes, no day of mourning has been declared, but does that mean we shouldn't consider what has happened to other people who didn't get lucky like we did and just be thankful for our blessings instead of complaining that a rec center is closed??
