Most of us in The Villages have an MVP Allstar garage door system. My wall switch has started to malfunction. It is lit up but the up and down buttons do not work. Battery operated remotes open and close the door fine.
I thought I could purchase a new wall unit and swap it out but find that these are unavailable as this unit is discontinued.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem and found a solution? Thanks.

While Ryan Ocull (352 617 0522) was fixing a broken spring in garage door , I mentioned to him that the pad needed to be replaced because it wasn’t working . I asked him how much the pad was when he finished and he said all it needed was to be cleaned no charge , that was about 7 months ago still working fine. FYI Ryan answers phone and shows up very fast when you need him

Second using Ryan. When he was at my place changing out the springs I was complaining about the Allstar MVP and he stated it's the best one out there. That would be because it's primarily metal compared all the new openers. I still hate the Allstar due to the noise and no rolling codes or "smart" features.

According to one Amazon reviewer, this Linear wall console will work with the MVP garage opener. Linear is the owner of the MVP company. $18.80 and one day delivery. There are other sellers of this product on Amazon.

I Smell a rat with this vendor. My order hasn't been confirmed, and seller hasn't been responsive. I'm most likely going to cancel through PayPal by the end of the day.
BE CAREFUL.

I just canceled this order. IF they happen to be legit, they are not very good at doing business

As for noise - you can easily replace the metal rollers with nylon rollers.

Understood very well. the entire line is difficult to find anything for without going general generic items. So I have elected to replace them before it's too late. We are going with wall mounted units in the next few months.

I can see how that will work for opening and closing the garage door. But, what about the "stop", "lock", and "light" features? The lock feature allows you to prevent someone from using a universal remote to open the door when you are on vacation. The "stop" feature is a safety device.

I think the Linear wall console (Post No. 8) is a better way to go.

That may help a little, but most of the noise on my opener is from the motor and chain.

I've used Ryan before in the past & did not have a good personality experience with him. He seemed to get annoyed easily with my questions & walked away while I was still inquiring about my door. I found that to be rude. I never called him again. I don't need to be treated that way & I'm not a confrontational person. Yesterday actually had my entire door & opener replaced by ASAP. They were great! First repair guy was great (door was too bad to repair) & the installation guys were great! They are now my go-to garage company.

Yes. Purchased a 3/4 HP Craftsman (manufactured by Chamberlain) and installation service (ASAP) at Lowe's, $298 total. Quotes from area garage door companies were $700-$900.

Ryan has found a good specialty and is making the most of it. He came out the same day I called and did the job in a half hour. I did think $350 for springs was a bit steep, but everything around here is expensive. He did check out the whole door and adjusted the opener.

Try a door bell button to replace up and down function.
A second button at door using spare wires from sensor allows you to shut door going out

I would suggest doing a Google search of this online seller before placing an order. There are a lot of complaints that it is a scam website.

Post No. 8 has an alternative wall console that is made by Linear, and it is supposed to be compatible with the MVP device. Linear owns MVP.

I've done the best I could to delete posts and alert users about potential problems with that vendor. If all posts aren't read, then buyer beware I guess.

Are you talking about the exterior wall switch? Mine acted the same way when it needed batteries (i.e. lit up but wouldn’t work).

I think he is referring to the interior wall console. It is hard wired from the console to the garage door motor. No batteries.

Caution! These openers installed with an outside keypad have a standard contractors code for easy opening. I stumbled on this while changing the codes on a used home. Mine had not been removed meaning anyone knowing the code can open the door with the keypad or properly programed portable opener. See your manual for the code and how to delete or change it. Needless to say it upset me.

Yes, buyers should be informed to clear out all the stored codes

Try pressing the button from a different angle/side. Always pressing in same spot (everyone does) wears in that area of pad.

This has worked for us the last 2 years or so.

Good luck trying to find a new unit. And if you do, they will rape you for it. Normally a 20 dollar part.

Sometimes you just need to let the technician do the job you called them to do.
Quite frankly if it were me I would gladly entertain you with conversation and bill you my hourly loaded labor charge.

It looks like this product is compatible with most Linear controllers, which is the company that bought MVP.

Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WM5LK2T/ref=sw_img_1?smid=A3935U1NYO1DFQ&psc=1)

Check the compatibility document that can be downloaded from the Amazon website.

I have the Meross MSG100. $20+. Works fine.

Installation is fairly easy. I used spare conductors in the existing cabling so no new wires across the ceiling.

It may be helpful to think about the rest of your home automation (present & future) and choose a compatible brand. Good luck.

WARNING!! about Allstar and probably all of those installed in the villages. They come come with a preinstalled simple standard code used by the builders. Bought an 8 year old villa, noticed it when changing the code and sure enough it never got deleted or changed. Meaning anyone knowing the code could open the door. Check the Allstar instructions that should have come with the house.

I'm confused. What code are you referring to? Unless you have an outside number pad, there is no number code, just the programming of the remote control devices and the inside wall console. In my neighborhood, the builder did not provide an outside number pad on the new houses. You had to install that yourself.
