We are coming to The Villages for two week in early December. We were wondering if the Rec Centers have workout equipment? Like weights, treadmills and such. If they do, what do they all have? If not, where would you suggest we go? We are staying in the village of Rio Ponderosa. Thanks for any info.

There are 7 regional rec centers that have fitness equipment, but they are not free. Here is a website with more information.

You will need to have Village guest ID cards to use the rec centers.

In addition to the indoor fitness centers, noted above, there are also outdoor fitness trails (referred to as Outdoor Exercise in the recreation news). They include outdoor versions of many pieces of gym equipment (I have never used them so I can't say if they have everything you are looking for). Since they are outdoors they are free. I didn't see anything on the district web site that listed all of them, but you can get a copy of the recreation news at any village or regional rec center, look up rec centers near you and see if there is outdoor fitness there.

Fitness centers ( not in regional rec centers) are located in Brownwood and Spanish Springs. Used to be MVP but are now known as Genesis. The one is Spanish Springs will be closest to you in Rio Ponderosa.

The only free one I know is outside (no treadmills), near the Paradise Rec Center.

Why not just call the sales office for accurate info and save time not reading MIS INFO

I don’t get there often, so I just pay $5 every time I go. That is MUCH cheaper for me.

The website referenced in Post No. 2 has the phone number for all 7 of the rec center fitness rooms.

All the information provided so far is accurate and TOTV is an open forum to ask questions on.

Maybe I just wanted to use the forum and ask some of the many nice people that live in the villages.
I really thought this is what forums are for.
Thank you all for your replies.
We can't wait to come in December for our 2nd visit. Thinking we will be living here in the next 5 years when we retire.

Not to worry. Nothing wrong with your question.
Some people seem to like posting those responses rather than post a simple answer to a question...

The IDs allow you to use rec center facilities in general. But you still have to pay extra to join the gyms. You can't pay to join the gym, if you're not a resident or visitor with a guest ID. This allows the gyms to be exclusive to ID-holders only.
The outdoor gyms are also ID-only, though in the three years I've been living here, I've never seen a rec center employee come around to check an ID. So it's possible that non-residents use them.
