Curious on anyone's thoughts but New Yorkers probably who still have family in NY may really have a strong opinion on this. What do you think?

Over a few years now I have received countless scam calls in Chinese regarding unpaid taxes or such. The calls only recently abated. Pleasant chime music plays in the background. Usually the speaker is a female with a melodic voice although I cannot understand a word she is saying. I have no idea where they originate.

Somebody has to report the truth. The National Post is reporting the same in Canada.
FIRST READING: It's 'entirely illegal' for China to open police stations here, says Ottawa (https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/first-reading-its-entirely-illegal-for-china-to-open-police-stations-here-says-ottawa/ar-AA12Hxa9)

NYPost the Enquirer of print media To a degree you are right. However, this is the kind of news mainstream media buries because they are in the pockets of you know who. By the way, the Post isn't the only media reporting this. You'll never read this on mainstream media. There's a ton of violence going on in NYC and the criminals are walking free at least the Post reports that so we know what's really going on rather than pretending NYC is safe.

Nice catch B-Flat. I saw a similar story a short time back in The Newark Star Ledger. They are already here. They are already settled in. So whatareyougonnadoaboutit? At this point with all the problems this country has even though this is a potential whopper I personally don't give an Egg Roll about this. What good would it do? :cus:

Good question you raise. "What good would it do?" 1. As long as people pretend it's mis-information not much will be done. 2. Hold on to your shorts. 3. Pray for you children and grand children they will be facing a tough road. Good chance a few of us will be dead when it's time to pay the piper.

For many years the Chinese govt has had moles in every US business, US govt office, and college campus. In important roles with access to all information. Way too late to worry about that. Just assume whatever we know, they have taken. You're welcome!

The New York Post is NOT a reliable source. It trumpeted the lies about high rates of STDs in The Villages, for example.
The article says, “ The report details how China has attempted to “combat the growing issue of fraud and telecommunication fraud by Chinese nationals living abroad,” running operations that have resulted in 230,000 Chinese nationals being “persuaded to return” to China “voluntarily” over the last year to face criminal prosecution. The Chinese government has claimed that the stations provide vital services to its citizens living abroad, though the report notes that many of the services are those that would be traditionally carried out by an overseas embassy. Instead, the report argues that the stations have been used to enhance China’s overseas law enforcement capabilities in possible violation of international law. The report also outlines the potential human rights abuses associated with the stations, including using harassment and intimidation methods, such as threatening the family members of the overseas citizens. The stations have also served as centers to spread Chinese government propaganda and monitor the behavior and opinions of Chinese nationals.“
I lived and worked in China in 1983-84, and I’ve published two books about it. China even then had ways of keeping track of its citizens abroad and putting pressure on them. How far that went, I don’t know. If China is rounding up Chinese internet criminals and shipping them home, terrific! There are plenty of them to ship, and I wish other countries would also retrieve their criminals who make their way here. I believe in capital punishment for hackers and scammers. They return willingly to be punished? Really? Don’t believe it! HOWEVER, I know that China may also be seeking out Chinese living abroad who are hacking the internet in order to get truthful information to those in China. They also seek out Chinese here who tell the truth about China. There are a lot of good things about China and it’s people, but the government hates it when it’s propaganda is exposed. For this reason, yes, these operations of, essentially, Chinese Intelligence agents on foreign soil are worrisome. Human rights abuses? Entirely possible. If China wants to do this, it should agree to full cooperation with law enforcement in the country where they work. Catch slavers and send them home? Yes, please! But have a committee of local cops examine the bad guys first and protect the innocent.

I lived in upstate NY about 55 miles from the city. We went to the city for the holidays and visited the Museum of Natural History. In my teens I took the subway to my high school.I would not set foot in NYC again. People are getting attacked on the streets for no reason in the middle of the day. The subway crime is horrible. Most of this is due to no bail policies. They commit the crime and are released that day. Chicago, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Detroit it's like the Wild West. Commit a crime with no punishment what do you expect. This is NOT fake news. Research it and you'll see crime is rampant in these cities.
Very sad and very scary and a disservice to citizens when the media does not report on it.

Just because it's on Fox doesn't mean it's not true. You should watch it some time. You might see things you never saw on mainstream media and had no clue it was going on. Have you heard that almost a thousand migrants, including babies and children have died crossing the border. Most of them drowning but some in tractor trailers who suffocated and died of heat exhaustion. Did CNN or MSNBC tell you that there are 7,400 illegals a day coming into the country? Probably not. But I'm sure you heard about the few that are being bussed to "sanctuary" cities that are crying about the unfairness of it all. BooHoo...you probably don't know the half of what's really going on!

News tends to feed on itself. Crime for example. New York city is like 13 MILLION PEOPLE.
I recall reading MANY YEARS AGO, two murders a night. Not bad odds, UNLESS ONE OF THOSE TWO IS YOU OR A FAMILY MEMBER. It has actually been tried and failed good news does not sell. With such a large population New York City is able to support many newspapers. The Times, The Post, The Wall Street Journal come to mind. There are also several in foreign languages, El Dario, there was one in Yiddish. I'm sure I missed many.
The POST is the longest continuously published paper in the United States. If, I recall it was owned by Alexander Hamilton-NO I WAS NOT THERE.
Pretending it is safe? I refuse to live in fear.

Why are there no articles about this in the mainstream news - I only see the Daily Mail and the NY Post - rags at best.
If these are private Chinese operatives monitoring in the USA ... no surprise. Hard to imagine that our country is giving sovereignty to a foreign government to set up shop - seems absurd.

Alexander Hamilton would likely be embarrassed if he could see what the NY Post was about today - Hamilton was a strong advocate for the power to be centralized in the federal government and believed that people in power should be the ones with intelligence and talent. Politicians of today would likely be an anathema to Hamilton (as they are to many of us). The NY Post is the opposite of most of what Hamilton stood for. Just a random comment on a previous chat.
