If you don’t mind traveling a little you can still get them at Disneyland. They had them at the Plaza restaurant at Magic Kingdom but it’s no longer on the menu. I hear they have them at the Riviera Resort at Disney World but haven’t verified.
I’ve tried making them with varying degrees of success. Disneyland Monte Cristo Sandwich Recipe | The Picky Palate (https://picky-palate.com/monte-cristo-original-disneyland-recipe/)

I hope you meant Disney World plaza restaurant. You are correct Plaza has removed it from their menu…however if you ask some time they will make it for you. We had one last week there. Shush it’s a secret

Yes. I meant The Plaza at WDW. But the first place I ever had one was at the Blue Bayou restaurant at Disneyland. That had to be at least 40 years ago. That’s why I mentioned if he was willing to travel. lol

From the menu at Gators Dockside in Brownwood:
Monte Cristo
Sliced turkey, ham, Swiss, and yellow
American cheese stacked between
3 slices of bread, then hand-battered
and fried to a perfect golden brown.
Sprinkled with powdered sugar and
served with raspberry preserves.
Haven't tried it so can't say how it tastes.

Lots of bread.thin slice of Turkey, ham and Swiss. American cheese was not a bonus. Close to the worst sandwich we have ever had.
It’s not a hard sandwich to make. You need a sturdy bread, add protein, quickly dip in well blended egg. I use a panini press. Browns quickly with perfect crust. Nobody needs to fry to get the results. We use homemade raspberry preserve.

Easy to make yourself! I like them prepared like French toast - thick sliced bread like Texas Toast, dipped in egg and milk and grilled in butter both sides, then layer ham, Turkey and Swiss and cover so the cheese melts, then I love jam or preserves like you! No maple syrup and I don’t like a batter and deep fried bread! Lol

The Legacy Monte Cristo sandwich is fabulous. It was served with maple syrup. I can't remember if there was any jelly, but I'm sure they would provide.

I have had one at Metro Diner. The nearest to The Villages is in front of the Walmart SuperCenter in Oxford.

Love Monte Cristos! Used to drive to Ocala to get them at Bennigan's before they closed. I always enjoyed the ones at Gator's Dockside, but haven't been in quite a while.
They are no longer on the Metro Diner menu. They substituted strawberry one time and it just wasn't right. A true Monte Cristo has to have raspberry. Maple Syrup? Eww, that would ruin it for me.

Have you checked Port Orleans Riverside/French Quarter at WDW? They’re two resorts next to each other, and both have restaurants and quick service places to eat. French Quarter has the best beignets.
I’m a Disneyland passholder (Magic Key now) moving to TV next month, and I’ve had super yummy Monte Cristo sandwiches in New Orleans Square at DL, but that’s a bit far to travel just for a sandwich.

CHEDDARS SCRATCH KITCHEN in Ocala.
Thank you TOTV and thank you for this recommendation HeleneGB! My wife and I went to Ocala this morning and just got back. Here is the Google review I submitted:
Server: Alexis
Monte Cristo with French Fries
Nice, modern, brick-rustic interior. Inviting bar area with long marble bar and several beers on tap front and center. 3 televisions in the bar area, with both tall and standard tables available. Our server was Alexis. She proved to be cordial, attentive, and helpful. Ask for her! My wife and I both ordered the historically ubiquitous and now somewhat elusive Monte Cristo sandwich.
The food was served promptly and the comfort food presentation was a feast for the eyes, promising culinary instant gratification and fried high-calorie delight.
Both the french fries that I had and the cole slaw my wife had were tasty enough to be called much better than expected, but the real star of the show was the Monte Cristo sandwich that easily justified the 30-mile drive we made to see it's performance in person.
This sandwich featured both ham AND turkey, along with both cheddar and American cheese (not the typical Gruyère) . It was battered and fried in its entirety (not just the bread itself), sprinkled with confectioners' sugar and served along side a traditional ramekin of raspberry preserves. The preserves had a more liquid consistency that allowed you to avoid the usual knife in hand and just dip each bite of the quartered sandwiches before eating Oh my, happy happy happy!
I chose a delicious raspberry tea to drink and my wife had a water. I tipped Alexis $7 and our bill came to $36.93; very reasonable for the ridiculously satisfying feeling this lunch provided! It would be silly to miss this menu item at Chedder's! Get it while you can!

I went to Cane Garden to have a Monte Christo . The bartender said it's been a long time since they had Monte Christo , so I ordered my favorite salad Chicken Tempura Salad that they no longer make so I asked about onion rings. They don't have onion rings anymore. At least they still have beer.

Chicken Tempura was my go to at Cane. Guessing their supplier no longer carries tempura products or switched supplier. Sad it was a really good salad

Grilled French Toast isn't really how to make a Monte Cristo. The sandwich needs Tempura batter to be a true MC.

I love their Monte Cristo but also sometimes enjoy their Chicken Pot Pie. Another winner!
