The Penalty Shoot Outs are exciting even if you have to wait a long time for them to happen. I often would tape these games and then fast forward. Usually watching the women's World Cup.

Would rather they play until they score a game winning goal. Too often they just run back and forth which becomes rather boring to me. They could make rule changes that would yield more scoring but they choose not to.
They should also get rid of the phony injuries. Ridiculous take someone off on a stretcher and than they come back good as new a little later

They face Wales, England and Iran in the First Round.
In my opinion, they need to get through the group stage to make this any degree of success. At least they qualified this time. The US players are on the whole stronger, with a number playing overseas in high level competition. That said, how well all of them are playing together is another matter entirely.
I don’t expect them to beat England, but good results against Wales and Iran are probably necessary to advance. That would mean at minimum a straight out win against Iran and a draw vs. Wales. A point (draw) against England would be a win to be honest. They haven’t shown form to get anywhere past the group stage - but you never know, that’s why they play the game right?
Respectfully, DB

If there is one thing guaranteed to put me to sleep, it is soccer.
Those riots at the end can be fun though.

:blahblahblah::blahblahblah: Here this all the time from Americans but never a discussion about how long, repetitive and slow baseball & football are. 4 hours for a football game and 3 hours for baseball. Also do not win any kind of championship in Detroit they do not riot they just burn the place down and shoot each other. For scoring the reality is that the number of scores is relatively the same just how many points you apply to a score. A 14 - 7 game is only 3 scores just the scoring counts 7 instead of 1.

I hope very well! My son's brother in law is one of the two goalies who hope to start! Matt Turner was the Revolution goalie, and he got traded this year to Arsenalt as a backup goalie. He is hoping to start and has been playing quite well! and the round robin will play during the week of thanksgiving, which is a new twist to the normally summertime tournament. . so there is a Friday after Thanksgiving WC party at my son's house . . with the family left behind. . . Matt's parents are going in person.
however, the MNT team is not as good as some of the prior teams who have done well getting out of the knock out round. . .
GO MNT!

Baseball games have gotten too long but next year watch for a much faster game.
Football games usually higher scoring but perhaps we grew up with football and appreciate the game more than soccer that we have no tradition of watching.

You can't be serious. I love soccer and refereed it for 20 years at the HS and college level. Both my boys were on state championship teams in HS. I know it's only opinion but to say that the US women's team is the "only real soccer team the US has" is willful ignorance at best. Truly, they are quite accomplished against other women teams on the world stage, but any good boys HS team could beat them. That's the level of play you get with women's soccer.

Our friends from The Great North had the right idea. Take a soccer field, reduce it in size to about 25% of what it was, flood it, freeze it, put skates on the players and give them a hard rubber disc to play with rather than a clumsy ball, and voila!
Hockey!!
Those Canadians knew how to fix a really dull, boring game.

Alternatively, indoor soccer is very fast moving and higher scoring. No offsides rules and player subs are handled like hockey. It can be very exciting for sure.

They'd have to time a game like that with a calendar.

Totally disagree. Wales is a world class team, the Welsh are born playing soccer whereas the Americans are new to the game and held their own. I am sure the US team are buying talent, but with all the Hispanics settling here now things should change in the future.

LOL! nothing to do with immigrants. . or hispanics. . in reverse, that would be like saying football would take off where there are so many US expats. . . . The real reason in the US is that there are so many alternative sports/activities in the US, and with the marketing power of football and beer overwhelms soccer.
For a vast part of the world, soccer is the way out of poverty, not the case here in north america. College football is the trade school for the NFL. College is similar for soccer, but its a world game, unlike football, baseball, ice hockey, lacrosse, basketball, which are primarily north American sports. . with true world sport, you see 10 year olds playing soccer in the streets all over the world. .
Here in the villages, at the villages soccer club, there is the father of the USWNT coach who won the world cup, he came from england as a coach and wrote the US junior training manuals with child psychologists. . . he turned pro at like 16. He did that in like the 70s. . . that's been plenty of time in this sized country to develop a program. . .
The other issue is that former players don't always make the best coaches. . and getting good coaches for younger children is an expensive proposition at this point. . . .
