John Rohan, TV Director of Recreation, announced tonight that TV has 30K to spend on a dog park, to be located behind the Fire Dept at Buena Vista & Bonita, and once the quick claim deed is submitted to the Community Development District tomorrow, it's all good to go. But not so fast....It needs surveyed, then gates, fences, benches, dog guzzlers (fountains), proper location for irrigation, & trees trimmed. The fencing will be a 4 board fence with the interior side having something similar to chicken wire filling in the gaps making it escape proof. Completion date may be late Dec 2010 or late Jan 2011.

Rohan said, "They may not spend 30K." Benches are $574 ea for starters.

I was also at the meeting last evening and John Rohan was very informative. I am very anxious for the park to open. About once or twice a week I take Sophie to Springdale (Mulberry Dog Park) but that is quite a distance. The new park will be close to where we live. The attendance at last night's meeting was larger than any of the previous meetings I attended. It was ashame when Rohan's talk was over many people got up and left. With all the people who have dogs you would think more would support and attend the RDOG (1 or 2) meetings.

My wife and I went to Miona on Wed (2/16) for the meeting only to be informed that it was cancelled. There were at least two others who also came for the meeting. Was there any notice posted re the cancellation?

When is the next meeting scheduled?
Is the new park opened and where do you park?
We are ready to volunteer as "monitors"

Went by yesterday around 6 PM. 3 workers doing finishing touches on gates. Appears to be almost ready for business except for ambassador training, signage, bag dispensers, trash cans.

I drove by again tonight and saw signage, trash cans, and forgot to look for bag dispensers.

Okay RDOG2 officials - when do we sign up for training?

Is this one the first dog park subsidized by The Villages? Are the others off campus and privately run?

I am pretty certain this new dog park will be the 3rd dog park in The Villages. There is one on the historic side and there is one you can reach by going in the Springdale gate (Mulberry Dog Park). This is where we have been taking Sophie. Having this new park so close to where we live is marvelous! I cannot wait.

Visiting is allowed but no rides permitted. He has enough other furry friends that want to play hump & bump and you may also get the royal treatment.

He also likes Peanut Butter M&M's.

We just came from the new dog park. There were a couple of dogs already there although the hours are 7A to 11A and 3P to dusk.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth (or any other part) but it is small! You may have to make a reservation in the future when everyone is informed of its location. Parking is on the far left, along side the old house.

I don't know why it requires monitors but my wife and I are available once a schedule is established.

Director of Rec emailed me to say that a safety inspection hasn't been accomplished and not everything has been installed.

He did say that it will be open later this week.

Teddie was well behaved when I would see him at Doggie Doo Run Run. Now, my dog is something of a humper of submissie pooches. It is kind of embarassing.

We will have to check out the new dog park when I am sure it is open.

Walked today at 4:00 pm to the dog park, with both gates locked up. I called Sea Breeze Rec. Center and was advised that it will be opening soon, but the park does not have a set date yet.

I took my puppy there on saturay morning and she found the BIGGEST mud puddle you could find....what a mess. The park is mostly grass but for the small dogs they laid sod and must have just watered the grass in and it formed puddles on the low spot....she found it and what a mess. The person I was talking with at the park told me....i think Its toooo late.

We just came from the new park and all seems okay and ready to visit.

FYI, if you want to avoid dog conflicts, it is suggested that you not bring treats and only bring toys that will become communal property. These are not rules that are posted but they are rules that all the commercial parks have that we have visited.

Beware of thistle that is growing in the grass. If you or your dog come in contact with it, it will give you or your dog a nasty "bite". I believe that I dug up all of it today on the large dog side.

Pharmer - this is a rule at the non-TV dog park (DDRR), and it makes a lot of sense.

I know some of you will think I must be making this up, but...

My hubs brought Fin the Dog there on Saturday. A few nice doggies were on the small dog side and Finley had a blast! However, he saw two women tossing some sort of treats onto the group. When he saw that they were grapes, he went to pick them up - and informed the woman that grapes are poisonous to dogs. Her reply? Well, I knew raisins are bade for dogs, but I didn't know grapes were!

Hey Pharmer - we golfed yesterday with two other Mainers... but I digress. I think the park is closed at mid-day due to needing volunteers there while the park is open and that in the summer it gets too hot during that time.

The restored home in the roundabout is called the Brinson-Perry house. It was originally built in 1885, and was moved to it's present location when CR466 was widened a few years ago. I guess they decided to use that name for the dog park.

I don't understand why when i took Bonyta to the dog park today after 3 p.m. it was locked.I guess the folks that unlock think dogs don't have to relieve themselves on days that it rains.:cus:

Ooowee. The best way to start a dog fight is to throw a treat in the middle of a bunch of dogs. Not a good idea at all. What were they thinking???

I'm going to check out the new park, but the time that I usually go is just when it's closed. I live in Amelia and have been going to Paradise. It's a lot closer than Mulberry and I don't have to worry about what time it is.

Most folks I meet at new dog park express dismay that it closes from 11 to 3pm. What can we do to keep it open?
Also there is a lack of grass in the large dog area, possibly the slope has something to do with that as all the traffic is pretty much on the flat area. Poor planning I guess.
