In an interview with Barbara Walters, Sarah Palin says that she thinks she can beat Obama in 2012. I know many people are giggling now, but I'm not. She has proved over and over again that she is way more formidable than her detractors give her credit for. This could get really good.

Richie...do not want to be a bummer because I normally agree with many of your posts however, AT THIS POINT I am not a huge supporter of Sarah Palin as a candidate for such a high office. I agree with much of what she says, but she is short on any actual plans...she has become a great cheerleader and I do not mean that in a nasty way. She is much much too general with what she says.
Actually, if she ran against Obama...well, lets put it this way...RIGHT NOW, I think almost anyone can beat Obama EXCEPT for Palin...she is much too much of a polarizing figure !

We'll see. I know she's underestimated and many have reasons why she can't win. But 2012 is still a ways off and she's letting more and more people get to know her and I think she almost always comes out looking better and better and she's not going to fall for the crap like Couric put her through anymore.
I don't really put her at the top of my list at this moment, but I am definitely open to the idea of her getting in the arena.

original question. The only way Palin could be elected in 2012 would be for her to have Christine O'Donnell cast a spell over the electorate to convince them that this totally unqualified candidate, who quit her last elected position to seek fame and fortune, should be our president.

The country elected a totally unqualified candidate in the last Presidential election. If he keeps performing as he has, a comedian could best him. Hey, maybe the comedian will beat him in the primary - Al Franken is available and surely could no worse than BO.

I see the humor in what you said, but to me I find more humor in the fact that you're saying it. If you're representative of the Democrat electorate, I'm feeling better and better about the prospect of you having a shocked look on your face in November of 2012.

I'm really not a hard core Dem. I voted for GWB in 04 as a matter of fact. I enjoy playing devil's advocate and using a little sarcasm to make a point. I dislike Keith Olbermann as much as I dislike Limbaugh and Beck.

OK, fair enough. I made an assumption based on your post. I just think that it's short sighted for the Libs to continue to underestimate the impact of Sarah Palins candidacy or endorsement after her near king-maker status in the recent elections. I don't mind, really. I enjoy their obliviousness to the real politic.

If what you say is true, then PLEASE come back and discuss an issue instead and without the sarcasm aimed at people. Would be a real nice change !

Dont misunderstand...I dont dislike her. I just want to hear her discuss the issue details and that is not a shot at her like in 2008, when she was ambushed. The same thing goes for Romney (at this point my choice) and any other potential candidates.
We cannot get anything done with platitudes...we have a man in the WH who got elected on pretty platitudes. We have a congress that is in there because of sound bites and platitudes. We need to get into the HOW part real quick and instead of pretty faces, pretty words, or things we like to hear, lets elect folks who have what it takes to get things done without worrying about the D or R after names.

i don't think Palin can win because the press has destroyed her. They tend to do this with anyone that is a threat. The press picked the Repub candidate, in 2008. I think they figured he would be the easiest to beat. If he happened to win at least he was, by far, the most liberal Republican running. As soon as he got the nomination they turned on him. No surprise.
Annabelle, I'm a big Bachmann fan, also. As of now I would like to see a Romney / Bachmann ticket.

You're right about the media's role in 2008, but it seems things have changed as evidenced by the results of the last election. Candidates that the major media denigrated won, and their chosen candidates who got the golden treatment lost in many races. Don't think they don't realize what happened. This is why Jay Rockefeller is up in arms about getting Fox News off the air again on "fairness" concerns. He doesn't want the left's message diluted.

Palin vs Obama - we would be back to an unknown (Palin) vs a known (Obama). Since I know what Obama can and has done to us, I would have to go with Palin.
I know you said Palin vs Obama but what if it is Palin vs Hillary Clinton? I am sure that she still aspires to be president.

I think just about anybody that runs can beat Obama in 2012 unless he makes a radical move to the center over the next 2 years. He campaigned as a centrist but governs from the far left. He is an idealogue and will never move to the center lik Clinton did in 1994.
I have said before, I don't think he will run for reelection in 2012 or he just wouldn't have said and done some of the things he has said and done the past 2 years.

Obama is smarter than Pelosi. He knows his record doesn't cut it and will move more to the center as much as it hurts. My biggest fear is that Palin will get the nomination and it may cost the Rep. the election. I really like her as a person and mother. I'm sick and tired of seeing her holding a baby and having her family behind her though. All that family stuff doesn't cut it with Iran, N. Korea, China, and the Russians. I think she would make a good president as she was a good governor, but doubt she'd win an election for president. I'd vote for her, but there are several others that I'd rather see running and would have a better chance. My prediction for the far future is John Boehner for president. I really like this guy. He even looks like a president.

as Christine O'Donnell. Sometimes I think people who live in The Villages think everyone out there thinks as they do. This is a big country, and in may places people like Bachmann are considered to be complete screwballs. Palin couldn't even get her senate candidate elected in her home state. If the Republicans are smart they will nominate Romney, and have him run with a Condi Rice or someone of that ilk. I've had lifelong conservatives tell me that they would never vote for Palin. I suppose anything is possible. David Gergen recetly said that the only way Palin could beat Obama is if unemployment goes to 14-15%, and it doesn't look like that will happen. Are conservatives so desperate to regain the WH that they would nominate someone as ill-prepared as Palin. Obama may not have had the necessary experience, but there is no way you can question his intelligence or his temperament. Palin is neither smart, nor is she emotionally stable. I've read articles written by conservatives who describe her as paranoid, and almost delusional. She is not he answer.

Your joking, right? We don't know Obama's intelligence because his college records are sealed. (how did he do that?) They say he had a ghost writer for his terrible books. Temperament? He acts like a thug. He strikes back at people without thinking. They say he has a narcissistic personality and he won't budge on his ideals because he is not smart enough to be flexible.
I say it is time to elect a real citizen and patriot.;)

Actor seems to be one of the few sane ones around here. Yes, Katie Couric asks tricky questions about what newspapers do you read on a daily basis and Palin freezes like a deer in the headlights. She quotes her foreign policy experience as being able to see Russia from some points in Alaska. This is a quitter who was an ineffective governor of a state with a total population of less than Orlando. She flip-flopped about the "Bridge to Nowhere". Her Tea Bag candidate endorsements were for loons - and a couple of the loons got elected, too.
Dude, I say, "Go, Actor - and keep the faith, brother!"

If you would like a thoughtful response you should first have a thoughtful post about a thoughtful topic. Your's and tbugs posts about Sarah Palin fall far short of the mark, and are merely ill informed rehashes of insipid liberal talking points with the sole intention to denigrate.
When you post such sophomoric posts, it would be ridiculous to try to engage in a debate on the post because I'd have to respond to every nonsensical point you've made.
So, in fairness, when I, or Ajack it seems, see posts of this nature, we just goof on you, or don't post at all on the meaningless thread.

to know that winning an election in our times requires a lot of money...she is busily raising millions while letting the public get to know and trust her...as the time for 2012 comes closer, she may surprise everyone with some really common sense platform points which the average man in the street can understand and support...she is not now in a position to offer a platform...but i do agree that she cannot win on popularity alone. she is capable of gaining ground when popularity is matched with platform, and i think she is doing it one step at a time....she is not as dumb as the media would like to portray her.

I would truly love to see Sarah Palin on "Meet The Press" to see what she really has to say in a free-exchange interview without her handlers getting the questions in advance like they do on Fox.
Someone mentioned Pres. Obama's college grades being sealed. He was editor of the law review so the grades could not have been bad. What kind of grades did Sarah get at the 5 different colleges she attended - none were Ivy League universities. Even George W. went to Harvard.
I am surprised that RichieLion is such a staunch conservative in his thinking after growing up in New York City. I have heard that a conservative is a liberal that got mugged once. Sounds plausible for NYC.
Good that we liberals and you conservatives can enjoy living in The Villages, play golf together, socialize at the same clubs, and still have lively debates. It's always a beautiful day in The Villages.

RichieLion seems to be able to quote from Ben Franklin and Winston Churchill but why not come up with some original plausible rationales?
I did ask RichieLion about Sarah's college grades at the 5 different colleges she attended as compared to Pres. Obama's being the editor of the law review at his "elitist" Ivy League university. I got no answer on this question.
Don't forget that even George "Weasel" went to Harvard so don't try that elitist talk about Pres. Obama. Weasel was of some of the bluest blood in New England yet tried to say he was just a cowboy and liked clearing brush in Crawford.

AKA Barrack Hussein Obama, our very first affirmative action president, used politics to become editor. He got himself elected by convincing a crucial swing bloc of conservatives that he would protect their interests if they supported him.He used the same tactics of listening sessions that he used in the poor neighborhoods of South Side, Chicago.
He doesn't want to release his records because it would prove he lied about his name and the bennies he received from being a foreign student.
President George Bush released his records and his grades were better the Al Gore and John Kerry. People are now understanding how good President Bush was at his job. Barry Hussein Obama may go down as the worst President ever.

In response to one of my earlier posts suggesting that the Democrat clown, Al Franken might be able to beat Obama in the primaries, you posted, “I Could "Refudiate" what you posted, but will say that in politics anything is possible.”
You did not because you could not and for no other reason. Claiming abilities you do not possess led to your ad homiem attack on RichieLion, in which you called him ignorant, a horse’s ass and either a fool or a moron. Like many liberals you resort to name-calling when there exists neither facts nor logic to support your ideas. Richie was dead on with his Bugs Bunny quote.

unfairly attacked and provoked by Richie and responded harshly, and for that I apologize. BTW, the thread was not about Obama's failures, of which there are many. It did not concern the Bush tax cuts, or the recent election. It was about Sarah Palin's chances to defeat Obama in 2012. My prior posts dealt with that issue, and that issue alone. Why are you straying from the original topic?

I dont keep stats, but lets just say that the VAST OVERWHELMING majority of your posts in this forum are attacking other posters or individuals, and rarely about the issues involved.
My note to you and the other "dude" were simply to try and get you to discuss the ISSUES facing this country without the constant tirades about individuals who are having no influence on policy in this country.
I will admit that had you not ever posted as with the other instigator, OR had made some post concerning real topics, I would not have posted this, as you say....off topic.
You know, this woman Palin, who is not running for anything sort of ties this forum up over and over. If you start a thread here with her name on it, you get oodles and oodles of posts. During the campaign, we had her family attacked, her parenting attacked, etc ! I, for one, am more interested in what is happening TODAY in Washington because without some serious action, 2012 is not going to make any difference.
Sorry if I offended you, but ask that you TRY to not come into this forum (or any other for that matter) and simply try to stir up trouble. If my judgement is incorrect, I apologize but it sure appears like that from your small number of posts and entrances in here.

Dudes and Dudettes -
Look at Sarah's GPA in the 5 colleges (which include 3 community colleges) and you will see it is a 2.37. Pres. Obama (not Barry Soweto) had a 3.89 and was editor of the law review. True, Barrack Obama could not see Russia from his deck in Duckfart, Alaska; he was a community activist who really cared about people and did good. Why not admit that Pres. Obama was fairly elected by a majority of Americans - instead of taking it to court like George "Weasel" had to do when the Floridians did not know how to properly cast a ballot?
RichieLion has been asked directly about Sarah's college coursework but refuses to anwer. Obviously, he has no idea. Sarah Palin is just "Hair and Unbalanced".
This thread has gone on long enough. RichieLion and Ajax have shown their colors and even though I have enjoyed being with one of them at a social function, I feel sorry for them.

How many of the 57 states did Barry Soetoro win? Let's not act stupidly, huh? What is Barry's favorable rating today?
Sarah Palin would wipe the floor with B. Hussein Obama if the election were today.

Hey bro -
"How many of the 57 states did Barry Soetoro win? Let's not act stupidly, huh? What is Barry's favorable rating today?"
There are 57 states in the United States? Hey, dude, the rum & Diet Coke is all I need (Diabetic Pirate) but you better stop with whatever you be smoking. Last time I counted the stars on my American flag, there were 50. Where do you come up with 57 states? Pres. Obama won more that Bush. Obama's approval rating is higher than Bush's when he left office (21%) - Obama has 46% today.
Who is Barry Soetoro? Bro, lay off the Maui Wowee - it has obviously fried your last brain cell. AMF.

Tbugs----How did you find Obama's GPA? Yes, he was editor of the Law Review. but he never published anything. You are really hung up on Ivy League schools.
All recounts in Florida showed that Bush won. If the media hadn't called Florida, for Gore, before the polls had closed he would have won by more.
Palin never said she could see Russia from her house. That remark was made by Tina Fey.
I think Ajack was refering to the fact that Obama said there were 57 states. Can you imagine if a Republican had said that??? We would never hear the end of it.

AGIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska
are you being a little toooo technical or have you forgotten? Very stupid answer from a future VP...Admit it!

He must be a great guy to know. Get him to meet with you at Katie's on Union Street. Then you can tell all of us how the food is at his 'favorite restaurant'. I'll wager that it as good as the stimulus results.

Now Barbara Bush will get invited to all the best parties in NYC, LA and San Francisco and be featured on the cover of Time and Newsweek. Liberal journalists will say how they always admired Mrs. Bush for her independent spirit and Chris Matthews and Jon Stewart will want to interview her on their shows. David Letterman will be calling and asking for the now beloved Mrs. Bush to appear on his show and discuss this most compelling interview.

Barbara Bush has never hesitated to speak her mind and has always shown a wicked sense of humor. In this case, I think she's dead wrong, but here in America you are free to speak your mind even when you're wrong.

Please define Koolaid liberal.
I hope this explains it sufficiently. I also was reacquainted with another neat word on this link "libtard".
