Only here for a quick weekend but had a good time. A couple nights a Lake Sumter, craft fair, nice afternoon at Sawgrass for some coffee and a cookie, great brunch at Glenview, nice dinner at the Back Porch. Fun filled packed weekend. A few observations that many talk about, all happening today. On a golf cart rotary and almost got t-boned by another cart not realizing they had to yield, a car pulling into the golf cart lane where I was on the right to take a left hand turn, a truck speeding by only to take a right just in front of me. As if these were not enough, the granddaddy of them all, a grandmother letting her 6 and 4 year olds drive the golf cart.

On the right to make a left hand turn?

Think that is strange, a SIX and FOUR year old able to reach the gas and break peddles of a golf cart.. guess they are a long taller than my grands...LOL ! Think we are being put on here ? Been here a long time, and I'm not sure what a golf cart "rotary" even is ? Is it like the auto round a bouts ? Wait until those visiting have an up close and personal encounter with the landscape and lawn care people with the trailers full of equipment who just routinely allow their trailers to "ride" in the golf cart lanes and think nothing of it. When we first moved to the V's, there were signs that warned: you are entering a golf cart community, golf carts have the right of way. Ho Ho Ho, that was short lived. Be alert, stay alive folks.

There may be one on the way to Sawgrass, near the Turnpike.

I can think of several golf cart rotaries:

** At the intersection of Morse Blvd, Paige Pl and El Camino Real -- worst design ever!!!

** Southeast of the CR 466 and Laurel Manor Dr intersection

** West of the CR 44A and Buena Vista Blvd car rotary

** At the east end of the Water Lilly golf cart bridge

Don't know what cart rotary is either. If anyone happens to have a pic feel free to post. No need to go out of your way, I'll figure it out, just curious.

Okay that's right we have one of those, the tri-path, on the way to Brownwood.

Rotary. I like it. Sounds better than "round-a-bout". More elegant. More British. I say, Buffy, old girl, let us go for a whirl around the rotary, what? Pip pip, and all that.

If you learn one thing from your visit - drive defensively in that golf cart - watch every other cart and car and take nothing for granted. Do not assume that these vehicles, especially cars won't run you over so keep your distance. Don't drive like you own the road, because in a cart you do not!!!

There was 3 crashes Sunday that I either saw or heard about. Really serious ones that led to hospitalizations. I find speeders going through red lights are the worse culprits. Almost got totalled myself crossing 441. I highly recommend looking for such maniacs before crossing any street. Defensive driving is the way to go.

I hear ya. Bird season started early this year. Though TV has more than it's share of year-round offenders.

We've seen golf carts tooling on down El Camino Real on a semi-regular basis, as well as carts ignoring (or not seeing) those signs in parts of TV where a street allowing carts becomes a "no carts allowed beyond this point" street. Usually the drivers have looks of intense concentration or bewilderment at the cars whizzing by and honking.

I agree that defensive driving is the way to go, but no amount of defensive driving will lessen the number of blatant (or just plain ignorant) offenders on our streets and roads. Only traffic law enforcement will do that, and I've seen precious little enforcement in our time here.

The snowbirds with Florida plates are the worst. Has the developer perfected the “Snowbird forehead stamp yet, or are they going with a chip? Cause I can’t tell the difference between Full time, part time, snowbirds, snowflake, drivers. Maybe they are just bad drivers no matter how long they have or have not lived here.

This morning on my way out a golf cart driving on BV. She looked to be late 70s or 80’s. I pray she’s not a snowbird driving in from out of state.

Simplest thing in the world.

Check the legs. Tanned arms with legs as white as snow is a sure indication that you're looking at a "bird". Wife and I spent about an hour at Starbucks in LSL outside watching them walk by. About 60-40 tanned legs vs. not.

Doesn't work of course if they're in automobiles but generally in my opinion the drivers who snarl traffic by being too tentative or who seem to be lost or disoriented (saw a guy in an SUV the other day parked with two wheels on one side on the turf, the other two on the pavement, consulting his phone. Texting? Or checking GPS?) are out-of-towners. Most TV'ers, regardless of their driving habits, do seem to know where they're going.

Cars have the right of way, not golf carts. And you don't make a left hand turn from the right hand lane. You merge into traffic and then make the turn-just like you'd do driving a car. Watch for traffic when merging!

I've driven professionally, what ever that means. The best accident is the one that does not happen. My dad taught me to drive. His line was expect them to do the stupidest possible thing because that is exactly what they are going to do.

Speeders going through red lights. Betting that people are going to stop just because they are supposed to, you may be betting your life on it. Turn signals? Too few even bother to use them and too many change their mind in the middle of a turn.

INTERESTING, I heard on the villages radio station recently that Florida has the worst drivers
in the nation.

Assuming people know the law is a reach. Assuming people know the law and will follow it is a double reach. Reading the posts we should all see how big a reach it is.

The V’s? I was just guessing at the age, they both looked very small and were standing not sitting in the seat. There are many rotaries for golf carts. Just like there are many for cars. The one I was on was just outside of Sawgrass near St Catherine’s. Sorry if you don’t know what a rotary is but there are many around where multiple paths meet and you go around the rotary until you reach the path you want. People on the rotary have the right of way and people entering the rotary has to yield. As for driving one should never pull to the right side of a road to take a left hand turn whether there is a golf cart path or not.

There is one outside of Brownwood near the pond Larry was in. There is one on each side of the bridge over the turnpike and one by Sawgrass. Probably more and really no different than the car rotaries all over the Villages.

Correct but it was the car that came up next to me that pulled to the right to take a left turn. If I had not stopped I would have been crushed between the car and the curb.

Thought of another, was heading to the bridge down on Morse when the cart in front of me and I had to stop quickly as a gentleman in a good size SUV was pulling onto the golf cart path. We had to wait until he realized he had to back out and go on his way. Was it a full moon Sunday or just the fact that we changed our clocks.

I am sorry that some do not realize what a rotary is. I have driven on rotaries all my life because that is what we have in New England and especially Massachusetts. Cape Cod and Cape Ann have had rotaries since before I was born.
