We own a year and a half old Yamaha golf cart we bought new here. The cart started making noises and I called them to come service. BUT that'd take close to 2 weeks wait time. So we paid to have it hauled in. The secondary clutch had gone out and was not covered by warranty..'wearable item' they said. So they have our cart for 8 days, no loaner, and delivered it covered in MUD! It was also left out in the storm! If you call service I hope you get through...no more! $700+ to fix!

Village Discount does not sell new Yamaha carts. They usually sell refurbished fleet Yamahas. They do not have the rights from Yamaha to sell new from the factory carts.

You can put a dress on a pig, but it's still a pig.
They "refurbish" what you can see, not the important stuff.

We bought our used Yamaha cart from Village Discount Golf Cars and have had no problems with it, or with the service we receive from them. We get service from them every six months: the “cartiologist” comes to our house and does the service right there, oil change every time plus he checks it over to see if it needs anything else. Pretty happy with them; I’d buy from them again.

Poster said "NEW cart" which is incorrect when you purchase from Villages Discount Golf Carts, (Not to be confused with The Villages Golf Cars Stores), you are purchasing a used cart, not new, that has had some refurbishment.
Villages Discount is not a Yamaha Factory store so they cannot offer a Yamaha Warranty. If you had purchased that used refurbished cart from The Villages Golf Car Stores, that clutch issue would have been warranted. Live and learn.

:ohdear: I sincerely hope the OP doesn't really think he/she bought a "NEW" cart. If they do, they learned the hard way.
"Live and learn" is correct. Some times you get a GOOD BYE instead of a GOOD BUY. :icon_wink:

Have two carts fron The Villages Golf Cars and very happy with the carts and service. When you prorate the price difference from other sellers it s not worth the trade off.

Not sure what you mean "When you prorate the price difference", but heard other mechanical issues so the discount was not worth it.
There is a risk, personal choice if someone wants to buy a used cart painted nicely.

You bought a used golf cart. Also, why would they bring it inside during a storm?

I have had no luck with the Village Discount Golf Car service department. Never can get anyone to pick up the phone and never get a call back. I will never buy another golf cart from this company. Spend the extra money and get a new golf cart and not a cart that they took old parts and threw together with a little new paint! Learned the hard way!

Bought new Yamaha from Villages Golf Carts, it's 2 years old, secondary clutch went out. VGC replaced under warranty -- no charge even replaced the drive belt. Had it back the next day.

I, too, purchased from VDGC and have found their service to be excellent, especially Phil who is very knowledgable. They never hid the fact that these were "refurbished" carts and we were ok with that, given the warranty. No knocks against Villages Golf Car service since I don't have personal experience but felt I got more for $2000 less at VDGC on one of their "refurbished" carts.

I had similar issues with the cart I purchased from Village Discount Cars. My biggest complaint other than bad spark arrester, clutch belt, cracked windshield("you must have hit a bump"), squeaking noises, brakes that grab, hesitation when starting and loose mirrors all within the second year is their 5 YEAR WARRANTY. It only covers the engine but you don't find that out until something goes wrong. I would NEVER buy from them again.

My experience with VDC has been very good. If I’ve had problems, they were quick to fix under warranty. Never had a problem getting in contact with them.

Villages discount does not sell new golf cars. Only refurbished. We’ve only had professional quality service from them.

Pretty common for secondary clutch to go out in the Yamaha gas 2016 and up. Bad design. Next time call the golf cart guy, he comes to your house and has it fixed in 30 min for half the cost.

Exact same thing happened to me with my 2015 Yamaha. But I had to pay for a new belt.

Anyone considering the purchase of a new Yamaha should get a quote from Country Power. We got a new Yamaha with all the bells and whistles at the same price as a refurbished cart from Village Discount, and several thousands less than the quote for a new one from Village Carts. The cart is delivered to you, and when service is required, they send a technician to your house. As a plus, it's a nice drive to Webster to look at their inventory, they have a neat store in an old warehouse, and the saleslady is a nice person.

Same here, we bought from them in 2020. No problem.

I bought my cart from the discount golf place. I am happy with the price, but another area they save money is in service. They didn't notify my of a warranty service issue. And when one of the side snaps broke, they couldn't give or sell me a replacement snap.
So it is buyer beware. There are other Yamaha dealers around that offer reasonalbe deals.

Agree and we paid 2K less than Village Carts. I ? Village Discount carts. They claim that they re furbish slightly used golf carts. Why are there so many slightly used golf carts out there that can be re furbished and sold?

Also purchased a 2022 from VDC. No issues. And he was upfront about the fact that it was not a from-the-factory-new cart.

The correct answer is that VDGC doesn't sell NEW Yamaha's, they do sell other NEW carts though. We bought a new Evolution and had two issues, both were dealt with quickly and efficiently. One of the two issues was self-induced, and they didn't charge anything even though they came and got it and brought it back. It this point I have to say that they have done everything I would expect someone to do. And the product has performed to what they told me to expect.

Sometimes Yamaha will send new carts to a PGA event, when they get them back, they can not be sold new. I would guess these “refurbished” carts are in pretty good shape and are a steal from VDGC
Some country clubs lease their carts from a Yamaha dealer. Could be a 1 year lease, 2 year, 3 year.
When these carts are returned ot Yamaha, they become refurbished. These are more of a crap shoot, some would be fine, some are probably pretty worn out.

You hit the nail on the head, buying a refurbished cart is playing golf cart roulette. Sometimes the outcome is favorable and other times it’s not. I guess it’s up to the buyer to determine if the risk of buying refurbished versus new is worth the cost savings. Just be aware, many people using a golf cart that they don’t own on a golf course tend to not treat them very well. Based on some of the things I’ve observed over the years, I’ll go with a new golf cart.

We bought a cart there and love it. The OP said it was an 18 month old, new to them cart so they know what the bought. You would think that this clutch would be in great shape at 18 month. The OP did not say how long they had it. Unfortunately when buying used you never know if it was abused when new.
We were told our cart had only 20 hours and used at a PGA tournament but of course that could be just a line, we will never know the truth.
Sorry you had to pay $700 but you probably saved at least $3000 for the cart so you are still ahead.

Also, many country clubs who had leases expiring in 2020 or 2021, paid the residual and held onto their carts for another year or two.
Two reasons, supply chain made getting a fleet of golf carts tough and the un known impact of COVID on the financials.
So some of the refurbs now have an extra year or two or wear and tear on them.
