This afternoon my wife and I played at El Diablo. The noise and interruptions by mowers was terrible. I used to brag about how nice it was to golf in The Villages because you are never disturbed by mowers. I hope this isn't a new maintenance practice that is being rolled out across all course. I enjoy the peace and quiet on the golf course so I hope that others will complain about this too. Will someone in charge please tell us if this is going to continue?

Perhaps you'd prefer that maintenance is done at night?
Or, maybe they should close the courses 2 days a week for maintenance, so no one is bothered by "noise"?

When do you suggest they mow? Should they call to check on YOUR T-times?

Have seen multiple complaints about the lack of courses maintenance. I think it’s a first the complainant is about actually maintaining the course?

On the championship courses, the crew does stop running the small machines when golfers are around. Big mowers will slow down. Ever tried to do any yard work at night? Not a good idea and can be dangerous.

15 minutes later, the OP said this:
"I played Tierra Del Sole on Monday of this week it was in great shape and the greens were ran true. Thank you for the care given to this course. It is a pleasure to play."
So, does he want maintenance or not want it?

I never understood why it had to be so quiet when playing golf? In baseball a pitcher throwing a fastball can reach speeds of 91 mph and the crowd is very noisy. I wonder if scores would be higher if the baseball fans had to be quiet during pitches? I'm a non golfer enlighten me please.

Because that's how it's always been played on Television. If they do it on TV, it must be the right way.
Like the folks who take 3 minutes to line up a 2' Putt.

I live on a golf course and they do mow the greens and tee boxes almost every day starting at 6 am. The other mowing in the rough area on Heron is usually on Thursday and goes on all day with the course closed until noon most Thursdays. What would you want them to do now at night.

I have be golfing in TV for about eight years and have rarely seen a mower on a course during the day so I guessed that the work was being done at night.

So long as they start on the 9th hole and work their way down to the first hole there’s not much noise. I played one 18 hole course where I had to follow the workers and that wasn’t working so I skipped the hole they were working on. Sure helped my game as I gave myself an eagle on the missed hole.

The Villages could switch to a new type of grass. There’s a greens keeper, his name is Carl Spackler.
He invented a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.

My sister-in-law from Milwaukee visited us for a week this past April. She's an avid golfer and being from Milwaukee is no stranger to alcohol. She had several bottles of "aiming fluid" with her; those little beer bottles of I believe 7 ounces. We were playing Saddlebrook. I hadn't been too successful on the first few holes so she gave me a bottle of aiming fluid. On the very next hole, 75 yards (#4?) I got a hole in one!
True story.

I am thrilled to live and play Golf at The Villages. I like early bird golf and the ground crews are out early. All golf courses do maintenance all day long. The crews are very nice and will wait if you ask them. I wait on them because it makes the course easier to play. All of the staff are there to ensure we are safe and courteous. It is up to all golfers to also take care of the courses we enjoy playing on. Rake sand traps, fix divots, and keep up a good pace or let others through. People complain about turnpike noise also. Why don’t people only travel at night.

OP the mow guy’s drive past my house @4:45am. They are in route to their designated area’s to mow. Guessing depending on drive time, they must hop out of bed @ 3am.
Just to make your 9 holes of golf a unhappy experience that you need to complain to a few hundred people.
I on the underhand applaud the workers, who get up early, work in the dark, and make the course’s playable for all those who choose to play.

Noise or distraction has never bothered me on the course.
Years ago when I had a half decent game I was a member of a Nomad Golf Society.
We never had a home club, but toured around and played the better courses we could never afford to be members of.
Belching, farting, blowing nose were not uncommon sounds when it got near the money shots/putts near the end of a round.
With an apology of course!

Not covered with snow yet, the snow we got has melted. Playing today to extend my streak of playing at least one round per month to 72 months. Might be able to squeeze in a couple rounds in the Villages before New Years, but can’t leave it to chance in case bad weather delays our drive south for the winter. It’s 29 degrees now, but is supposed to get up to a toasty 35 degrees by 1:00. Hopefully I won’t have to drill a hole in the ground with my cordless drill to get a tee into the ground? Yearning for the Villages.

Odd. Some of us are disturbed when the courses are mowed before dawn! That’s what generally happens where I live. When it’s still dark! All so you won’t be disturbed.

Nice New England attitude , no winter golfer or any golfer at all , but I have participated in the L street Brownies , New Years swim plunges over a dozen years , last time was 10 years ago I was 74 , it was bitter cold and I don’t spend enough time up there anymore to get somewhat acclimated, but never say never I guess , maybe in the years to come when I move back next year for good

Not sure when you want the work to be done. Maybe your schedule just hasn’t crossed with them before. Many moons ago I use to work on a course and we cut or pulled the greens before the course open and cut the rest during the day. While cutting the fairways we quickly leaned who got ****ed off the most by us being their so they didn’t get special treatment but for others we would pull off and shut the motor off.
