View Full Version : Trash pickup days need to be alternated

Have you considered that Half of the TV residents get many more trash ‘Non-pickup days’ than the other half? This imbalance is caused by standard Holidays falling on Mondays & Thursdays.
Thus, half of the villagers are getting less service for the same fees as others..
In 2022; If your in a Monday & Thursday trash pickup Village- you had 5 weeks with a holiday (plus 2 Hurricane weeks) of ‘Non-pickup days’. The Tuesday/Friday villages had none (0) due to holidays…
In 2023, this unequal pattern continues...
The Monday/Thursday villages will be impacted by 4 holidays; while the Tuesday/Friday villages are only impacted by 1 holiday.
We all pay the same monthly garbage collection fees; but half the Villagers get less service for their money (due to more holidays falling on their trash pickup days).
Year after year - I say it’s unfair. Thus, a need to either alternate the Trash-pickup days every year. ‘Or’ charge Mon/Thurs villagers a lower monthly fee.
Half of you will agree; because you’ve had to hold your trash for a week (7 times) this year…. The others won’t because of little impact on them.
Yes, I’ve notified the District, but you know 1 voice only goes so far.

If you look at these 3 links from the district website, you will see that Districts 1-11 had NO disruptions in service on the holidays except for Thanksgiving. That’s an awfully large part of the Villages.
South of 44, there were 4 days of non-pickup but only a 3 day wait until the next pickup....not a week
In Lake County, they added Tuesday as a pickup day if the holiday fell on a Monday
Different companies pick up the garbage in different areas, which leads to the discrepancies in what they decide to do on the holidays.
The fees for each area are slightly different too...we don’t all pay the same.
Just trying to clarify the info, not trying to instigate anything.
I’m assuming you live South of 44. Your trash is picked up by Tri County Sanitation.
You might want to call and complain to them
Hope this helps

I'm shocked that no one has filed a Class Action Suit against the Developer or County for the disparate treatment of residents. What happened to "Equal treatment under the law" ?
A Development or community will never be successful, if such hardship continues.

A rotation would only confuse people and we'd have trash left out. First, if it's that big of a deal move. Second, most of us are used to only getting trash picked up once a week, if you know what's coming, plan for it, we do...

Just be happy you don't have to haul it to the dump yourself. Next thing you know people will complain that one village gets more rain than they do.

Yes, I've always thought that The Villagers in Marion County get more rain than we do.

I cannot believe someone has the time to document a "complaint" such as this. Some just have too much time on their hands. The trash collection in TV is outstanding, as well as the scheduling. My Two Cents!

And there was I thinking you were talking about Snowbirds - here for less than half of the year, yet pay a full year's contribution. Now THEY have something to complain about.

2022 has been a busy year for you! Moved to The Villages and are already fighting for injustices!
Was hoping for some traction on an issue in my neighborhood. I acquired 40-50 large blue trash bags for free and have noticed that they look so much nicer compared to my neighbor's use of white and black bags. It's worth noting that with the blue one cannot see the actual trash like one can with the white trash bags and doesn't hold the heat like the black bags. I don't want to force the entire Villages go to the blue bags....just my village and the 3-4 closest to me.

In Citrus Grove I like how one maybe renter left their trash at the Citrus Grove Postal office. How classy was that on a Friday after we didn't have service of Thursday. 3 bags of untied trash.

I guess I didn’t know that they didn’t push pickup back a day for a holiday but I guess they don’t. So each pick up runs about $2.50. Looking for $10 a year credit is worse than those that complain about amenity fees going up $2 a month.

Reality-Life is NOT fair.
Wife knows when the trash goes out and due to selective hearing she has resorted to taking it out herself.
Perhaps, we were trained by how bad it was at our previous home-ex New Yorkers.
We had cans that you bought yourself. They would drop trash all over the street. When, I got home from work I would get to search for mine and try to discover who owns the cans left on my property. Amusing-we had racoons. They used to break through the cans. I called the ASPCA and they sent a plan for a racoon proof garbage can shed.
The lady I spoke to said don't bother nothing is racoon proof. Here it seems the cayotes and crows have formed teams.

Same for us. Really surprised here, TWICE a week, if garbage day is a holiday, they pick it up the next day, but never had TWICE a week regular pick up and.... for HALF of what we paid in other locations for sanitation service. Everyone's experience is different, for some it's a great experience here, for others it doesn't measure up to where they lived previously ! Such is the world

Seriously though, if we had alternate days, I’d have a hard time remembering them and so would many others, so we’d have garbage bags out every day in case it was the day THIS week.
