Very exciting game today but very heart-breaking for Brazilian soccer fans.

What a match. But Brazil and their fans - and it seems the announcers - were certainly the match was over then. Well, not. I’m always for the underdog. Good. So it seemed Brazil simply wanted to play easy and end it in a cocky manner, but Croatia pressed and got the tie.

The penalty kicks were amazing. THEN the announcers began to turn.
I love an Underdog win.

Wish they would play until a regular goal is scored to determine winner

The problem with that is that it could tire the team out so that they can’t recover for the next match.

Do you remember the longest tennis match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut? It lasted more than 11 hours and the 5th set was decided 70-68! They changed the rules after that.

I don’t think too many fans want to watch more than 120 minutes plus the PKs.

Like deciding the Super Bowl on extra point kicks. Ridiculous

Croatia are masters at those tactics.
Not their first Rodeo playing for penalties.
Do enjoy the penalty shootouts, but feel so sorry for the man who misses!

I’m a novice WC watcher.

Some things seem so vague. Of course the time…. I wish it was more definitive . The extra time is vague as is the extra periods when tied etc etc

And when I look up the final scores, sometimes the final on penalty kicks still shows 0-0, 1-1, 2-2. Most banners and news scores don’t really show the winner and final penalty points score. I know it’s me but ???

It’s an odd sport.

Two totally different games, and you are not forced to watch.
When NFL players play for 90 minutes non stop, apart for a half time break, and another 30 minutes of extra time, criticize.
Many NFL players run about for a minute, come off for a rest, and even then some need oxygen!

or playing a 4+ hour game that has 18 minutes of actual action....

If they did away with the offside rule and more goals were scored would enjoy the game more.

No one makes you watch, just as I do not watch, in my opinion, boring baseball.
The most exciting part of baseball as far as I can see, is who spits nut shells the farthest or shoves the most gum down his neck.
Don't the management feed the players?

The game is play for 90 minutes. Think it is still 15 mins for half time.
Stoppage time is added for injuries etc.
Extra time is 15 minutes each way.
Penalty shootouts. five shots each, winner takes all.
5-5 or any draw at end of penalty shoot out.
Penalties until someone wins with two clear goals.
TTBOMK.

I must say I have a pet peeve when someone says “you don’t have to watch”. IMO that is such a simplistic commentary. Like people that state “you don’t have to read that post…”. We don’t HAVE TO do much of anything but we still can comment. Jeez

If they did away with the offside rule and more goals were scored would enjoy the game more.

So no offsides in American football either? No 3 second rule in basketball? Who needs a blue line in hockey? Foul balls a base runner can run? People constantly say there needs to be more scoring yet when an American football game ends 14-3 it is exciting? That is only 3 scores for the entire 4+ hours!

Our family is beyond excited and proud of involvement in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 . Our son and daughter-in-law work for FIFA in Doha, Qatar,

Currently, Ansen Sligar is the FIFA Team Liaison Officer for Team Croatia,
Mariana Quintanilla-Sligar is the FIFA Languages Services Department Manager.

During the months of the pandemic Mariana and Ansen were caught between international Covid lock downs as they transitioned from their home in Lima, Peru to a new home in Doha, Qatar. They spent seven months, of the border closure restrictions in The Village of Palo Alto, The Villages.

Mariana spent her time, in The Villages, pre-planning operations for FIFA's World Cup Language Departmental services.

Ansen also worked as a member of the Virgin Islands Olympic Committee. Ansen's involvement with the Tokyo and Beijing Olympics took place right here in The Villages via many Zoom meetings. Doha, Qatar.

Ansen also served as FIFA Team Liaison Officer for the Cup World Cup (Monterey), African Cup (South Somalia) and the Arab Cup (United Arab Republic) while in Doha. He also was Chef of the Mission for The Virgin Islands Summer and Winter Olympics in Japan and China.

Luckily we have been able to see glimpses of both of them during press conferences and on the televised live match coverage.

Both Mariana and Ansen loved their opportunity to spend the time in The Villages during the Covid closures while working at their Villages base.

To my uninformed opinion major difference between offsides in football and soccer. What would be wrong with a breakaway with soccer with 1 on 1 offensive guy and goalkeeper?

Very rare that football scoring is that small.

I would like soccer more if there was more scoring, that is my opinion and sticking to it.

Every major bracket championship goes this way. Whoever gets hot will get the win, not the favorite if the victim. Why I will not waste betting on them!

Often enjoy it when the underdog wins especially as that rarely happens. France will probably win this again but I sure would like to see Croatia take it all.

How about a start time and end time for the game with no clock stoppages? Hurry up football?
