Don’t laugh but it works I have located power lines, CATV, telephone wires and plastic water lines it’s not an exact science.

Typically the irrigation lines run in a relatively straight line between sprinkler heads, just dig gently (which is very easy to do in the sandy Florida soil) where you suspect a line might be. Worst case, you crack a line. Easy to fix, it’s just PCV tubing. Go to Ace Hardware, Lowel’s, or Home Depot and get some PCV cement, a couple of couplings, and a small piece of tubing and fix the crack.

It's sad that maps the show water irrigation lines aren't given to homeowners.
I have several PVC pipes around my 33 yr. old home that are capped and properly part of the original system.
To my knowledge I don't believe they are not traceable underground.

IMHO, you will probably need to hire an irrigation company to find the lines, then you can use them to setup the correct irrigation for the new plants. BTW, IMHO be very careful with crepe Mertle We have one that was supposed to be a BUSH, it is a TREE, very hard to control.

This is not only sad but a disgrace. We bought two new houses recently, and when Tri-County Landscapes came for the sprinkler system orientation they refused to provide a map, even though it had just been installed. And then they only warranty the system for 30days. If you put those donuts around the sprinkler heads to prevent someone from driving on them and damaging them, it voids the warranty. What?!

The irrigation installers here do not work to drawings. But they tend to keep the distribution piping together and a few feet from the home. I took photos during the install.
They need regular service with our grey water. A service contract is less than a dollar a day.
If you plan to add a pool or birdcage, have then run the backyard distribution lines along the rear of the property to minimize rerouting later.
