We have friends contemplating bringing a parent to one of the assisted-living facilities in The Villages. Does anyone know if residents at assisted-living facilities have to pay the $179 amenity fee?

Those within TV, worth a call.

We used Mission Oaks, outside of TV, and excellent care.

Just wanted to remark on the nice, helpful responses you’ve received thanks to TOTV posters. Nice work Villagers and good luck to the OP.

My mother in law lived in Freedom Point Assisted living and paid no amenity fee.

Freedom Point residents have access to The Villages amenities, so she paid the amenity fee, but it was included on her monthly fee to Freedom Point. It was not a separate, itemized charge.

As suggested in a prior reply. There was a list of facilities, best to call and ask. It is really expensive here.

Not true. Freedom Pointe, Sumter Grand, and Buffalo Crossings assisted living residents have access to The Villages amenities. That is just 3 facilities that I know of. I think there are more.

You could try Trinity Springs (it's behind the Walmart on 466). It's not in The Villages but very close. It's not that old of a place and I've heard that the residents there love it. At least give them a visit to check it out.

My aunt lives at Sumter Place. She’s in the Villages, so she pays the amenities fee as part of her rent. No separate bill.

It may not be a separate bill, but you definitely pay for access to TV amenities. When I had to place my parents, I did a lot of research and all the IL/AL facilities on Villages property were more expensive than the ones outside TV. We ended up choosing The Willows in Oxford (also behind the WalMart on 466.) Excellent and beautiful facility, I recommend it. After all, how many people in their 80s-90s leave their facilities to use TV amenities? I did comparison charts on all the ALFs and narrowed it down to 5 places that I visited. From there I picked the top 3 for my parents to tour and they made the final choice. Good luck with your search.

I highly recommend that they reach out to Josephine Cirrinone from Your Key To Senior Living Options. She can help you understand the differences and which facility would best meet your financial, social, medical needs. Her services are completely free. The company has helped over 1000's families in The Villages! Her direct number is 352-973-2729.

When I placed my mom at Sumter ALF in 2012 they were not part of TV and she paid no amenities. That facility has changed ownership and management several times since so not sure what is in contract. I do feel that if they live in independent facility and have access to TV amenities they should pay just like the rest of TV residents

They do pay, including independent and assisted living. But the amenity fees are part of the monthly fee paid to the facility, not a separate charge.

After a visit to Sumter Grande a few years ago that involved a delicious lunch and tour of the apartments, I came home and reported the rental rate to DH. His reaction was: $%&*@#!! Yes, the rate included the amenities.

All residents of the independent living part of Freedom Pointe have full access to all recreational facilities and programs at no additional charge over the standard Freedom Pointe charges.

However, none of the residents in the assisted living, rehab, memory care or intensive care portions of Freedom Pointe have any access to Villages recreational facilities. That is not an option.

You might change your mind when they star construction of the 400 rental units across the street from The Willows. This project has recently been approved by Wildwood.

i would never ever send my mom to those facilities. I've had to interview all of them, no thanks.

Our aunt and uncle lived at Freedom Pointe for some time. They had a golf cart there, , continued to play golf, and used The Villages facilities every day into their early 90’s.
They still had Villages resident ID’s so I can only assume they were paying for the amenity fee in some form.

I didn't recommend them. I just pointed out that they are connected to The Villages, in that the residents can use the Villages amenities. I think that is important to some people who move into a facility.

Independent Living facilities inside the borders have an amenities charge. Assisted living facilities do not as the residents are unable to use the amenities. For the most part, but it is always a question to ask as to what fees are involved and what amenities does it cover inside and outside of the facility.

That is not true for all assisted living facilities. Many of them do allow the residents to use The Villages amenities. Here is an excerpt from the Buffalo Crossings website.

"Buffalo Crossings Assisted Living Community offers maintenance-free private apartments within The Villages, including access to full Village Amenities."

Also, I understand that the Sumter Grand assisted living facility allows use of the amenities. And, I am sure there are others.

I can highly recommend The Willows also. My wife spent almost 2 years there.
