This is just bizarre to me. In every major Northeast US city they have New Years eve celebrations every year with live bands and vendors in MUCH colder temps than forecast for here plus there's no rain or snow forecast, so cancelling just because people would have to wear long pants and a jacket makes no sense. This is an embarassment to be honest.

I missed the announcement canceling New Years Eve at our squares.

If the north's policies make sense to you and are ones you prefer, you should go back. That road you drove to move here goes both ways. You are now in the south, we do things different here.

:ohdear: To be honest you may need to call the Entertainment Dept. with your complaint. The rule I believe is 46* and things get canceled on the Squares. They will be happy to explain to you.
Also I find it embarrassing when embarrassment is spelled wrong. :icon_wink:

The civil war is over there is no north and south only the United States of America.
Go to the Square with your family, bring a boombox, and dance the night away. No one is stopping you from going to square it's just unfair to entertainers to try and play instruments for 4 hours in freezing cold weather.
Nobody up North is performing on stage for 4 hours in freezing weather. They may do a song or two and then somebody else takes over and so on.

How about introducing them to the old ways of entertaining like we did before all the electronics and have real interactions. You remember - card games, board games, walks, baking together, family dance night in living room, crafts, making ginger bread houses out of graham crackers, 20 questions, charades, you finish the story or picture, or even competing on current video games.

in the future, go to Village Community Development Districts (http://www.districtgov.org) for all information about what is going on in the villages

That will work, until they complain how boring grandma’s and the villages are, and decide not to spend the money to fly yo FLA next year for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Has anyone noticed not that many families, are here this year? Or maybe it’s too cold for them:1rotfl:. Just seems less busy this holiday, kind of like the Covid holidays. Just thoughts, while waiting to see if Santa missed our house, or is running a little late.

A good compromise may be to entertain in the afternoon, pre sundown based on temp prediction.

Many threads lately, asking for info, puts a target on your post, with seasoned and new posters. So sad, that this informational site is somewhat dying

This past week I've seen a few families on the golf courses and restaurants and the squares but yes, not as many.

Yeah, I think they are all on this post.
I agree, some warm clothes, heaters for the players and it could be fun. I know, all the natives are saying stay up north....not nice, but honestly the square is one of the biggest draws for the visiting families, it's all they talk about and want to do.....and that's a good thing, it's fun and special to the villages. My thought is why don't they do everything and anything to make it happen. It's a very positive thing.
Merry Christmas

If my kids and grandkids were coming to Florida just to be entertained and not to enjoy spending time as a family with us, then they can stay home. So far, it hasn't been a problem.

Ridiculous! How could you even think that musicians should be playing, guitars and drums in 30-degree weather for hours? Figure out something else to do with your family!

This isn’t the Northeast. To expect bands to play in this cold weather is ridiculous as is calling it an embarrassment.

Myself being northeastern disagree with a a great deal of northeaster cultural policies which make no sense,. To a great deal of us. That is why a lot of us have moved to other states like Florida.

Where there's a will, there's a way. This is my opinion. No barking necessary, my family is not visiting this year, they are spending with up north gramma , but i still enjoy going to the square and watching the little ones enjoy the villages, who wouldn't....Merry Christmas and cheer to all.

There is not a will. They decided to close the squares.

I thought that businesses finance the squares’ entertainment. I guess when it gets too cold not enough people spend money to make the extra effort worthwhile.
