Hello,
I will be needing an MRI on my lower leg and am looking for recomendations on where to have it done. I am claustrophobic and would prefer an open machine or a machine for large people. Can anyone recommend a place in the area around the Villages? Thanks in advance.

Lake Medical Imaging has Wide Bore MRI. They have several locations in The Villages.

OP, check with your doctor, you will probably only have part of your leg in the machine, not your entire body. I have had several MRIs and only the part being scanned was ever in the machine. You can also call the MRI center to see exactly what their procedure is.

Lake Medical - They have several locations and machine types. You can call to schedule an appointment and they will tell you which location is best for your specific needs. When i scheduled in September … the earliest appointment was mid November

Thank you everyone for the great responses. I feel better about getting it done. It sounds like they should be able to accomodate my anxiety with tight spaces. I had been putting it off.

I have had several MRIs on my left knee before it was replaced, and they always tried to put my entire body into the tube. I am extremely claustrophobic and was not able to find a location in the villages to accommodate my needs even with meds. There is a completely open MRI in Claremont, where I had my latest MRI performed, it was great.

Lake Medical Imaging is the place to go and there are lots of locations here. Having an MRI on your leg will not impact your face/head. Only your legs and maybe your hips will be in the tunnel. Lake does not have "open" MRI machines, I already asked.

I would ask for a mild sedative. I don’t consider myself claustrophobic, but I needed the sedative anyway. It made all the difference.

What was the name of the place in Claremont with the open MRI? I may end up there.

I know you said around the villages, but Clermont Radiology has a completely open machine. Go to their website and check it out.

They don’t put you all the way in I just had my ankle done if it’s a lower leg you won’t go in all the way you can call and ask

You may wish to double check with your Dr. to see if an Open MRI is OK with him. They typically have lower strength magnets and may provide lesser quality images than a closed MRI.

Thank you for that information as many of us are claustrophobic!

Checked online for a photo and am unsure which MRI machine in Claremont is considered Open. Does anyone know which Claremont photo is considered an Open MRI? Thanks!

i go to the stand up mri in clermont and it is amazing. You sit in a chair, and they take the xray=you don't move, the machine doesn't move. Just a little noise. They are wonderful there. Name is clermont radiology, phone is 352-241-6100 . I go there because i too am claustrophobic

My husband is EXTREMELY claustrophobic and he did well at Lake Medical Imaging - The Villages & Leesburg, FL (https://lakemedicalimaging.com/)
Make sure any MRI place accepts your insurance as MRI is expensive.

Ask your doc for some valium or halcion prior to the scan.

Ask your doctor if he/she approves of an open mri- quality of images can vary by type of machine. Ask for little happy pills to take the edge off; make sure they load you feet first. Good luck.
