Looking to put in built-in cabinets in the garage of my new home. Primarily will be storage for counter-top small kitchen appliances, some tabletop serve ware, cookbooks, DVDs, and costco bulk household items. Need direction/advice: 1) would these items all survive being stored in a hot garage. 2) Any referrals for a contractor who could do this work. Thank you.

I have stored a coffee pot in the hot attic and it works just fine when I need a larger pot for entertaining.
I would not store DVDs in a hot environment but I don't know for sure if the heat would harm them.
I store paper products in the garage on open shelving and they do just fine.
I'm sure cookbooks would be OK in the garage. I keep paper work in bins in the garage and they are fine.
Hope that helps.

I would suggest checking out the Elfa system at The Container Store. I installed it in my garage in Virginia and it was extremely easy to install and totally flexible. Also, it hangs on the wall, so you have nothing touching the floor.

If you value your cookbook, then NO for some reason bugs leave paper products , but, love to get between pages in books. Same with cardboard don't store anything in cardboard

I bought Husky brand steel cabinets almost 10 years ago (from Home Depot) for the garage, these look as good as new. They are all steel, lockable if needed, and i was able to add my own wood additional shelves. At the time these cost about 20% of custom designed cabinets. Also, these can be rearranged if needed, just a thought for a less costly alternative.
Only downside, these are kits, you need to put together, a second person makes this process much easier.

I had Dustin Miller of Central Florida Garage Designs put in my cabinets in the garage. Loved the quality of the product. The cabinets are all powder coated, so they withstand the heat of the garage. Worth the price!! Choice of colors too! 407-630-8498

After talking with several contractors about garage cabinets, I ended up buying entry level kitchen base and wall cabinets fro Lowes. The install was easy and I saved more than 50 percent on the project. Lowe's delivered everything including laminated countertops for the base cabinets.

We put in built in cabinets and a work bench in our garage. I store all my small appliances and oversized pans and glass and chinaware overflow. We used Inspired Closets on highway 44. They have a showroom.

Lowe's has some very nice preassembled cabinets in various colors. I used them in the garage and the laundry room. If you're not able to install them yourself any reputable handy man could do it

I have a neighbor who built me my cabinets. Send me a text and I'll send you a photo.

I am using about 12 of those stackable plastic shelves. They are inexpensive and adaptable. If, I recall they are sold as five shelves. You can easily cut the upright parts to adjust the height. If, you want say 3 shelves, you have two left over and can use them by adding to them or whatever. They are not really made for heavy stuff. If, they start to droop, you can install PVC pipe or wood. It is easy to do. There are holes to do it.
Books? Books do not store well in heat and humidity. I have both wood antique cabinets and quality steel book shelves in my heated and cooled (AC) office.
Tools-beware of rust. Wipe them with oil if you put them in the garage. Batteries
do not do well in a not temperature controlled garage. I keep them in my closet.
NO, I do not have the neatest garage. YES, I have far more STUFF than most.
IF, I need it, I d not need to go to the box store to find they just sold the last one.
It is in my garage, IF, I can find it.

I've added to the ones in my closet that were originally installed by the builder. They are easy to cut AND easy to install.

Wayne Themuda, 401–265–7701. Has done excellent work for me and many others in the neighborhood; he works full-time for the villages warranty and does these jobs on the side. He is very reputable and pleasant. He only collect payment after a job is finished and you are satisfied.

1) I wouldn't store anything paper or electronic in the garage unless it is climate-controlled

2) we just had several of our closets redone, and were extremely happy with the contractor, Dave Fackelman at Specialized Storage Solutions, cell 407-718-6818. He not only did a wonderful job, he was there when he said, cleaned up each day after working (he removed the previous shelving, spackled and patched, one day then came back next day to complete), and did NOT ask for any prepayment. He was friendly and easy to work with, and we plan to use him again when we change the closets in the guest and spare rooms. We asked him what other kinds of projects he does, and he mentioned garage storage.

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to respond - all useful info, as I’m still a newbie to Florida and TV. Looks like I will need to think about turning my closet in the second bedroom into storage for books and other items I won’t be able to store in garage (or maybe I should just get rid of even more stuff than I have already - decorating in a minimalist style anyway - and I don’t want open shelving - i.e. bookcases and curios visible in any of my rooms). I will need storage in garage though for tools and Costco bulk items, so the referrals that I have been given will be helpful,- thanks again everyone for educating me.

We are also appreciating the referrals. M&S air conditioning just installed a mini-split A/C unit in our garage as preparation. Next step is the epoxy floor and garage painting. This will be followed by ordering the cabinets and slat wall. In our courtyard villa the garage is only a 1.5 size so every inch counts!!!!

Thanks for any help
