When was the last time you bought eggs(non expired) for $1.45? I was in two different states over Christmas, and they were $4 plus.

Christmas Eve, and who buys expired anything? That is not a store I would shop trying to sell expired anything

That is an amazing price. Wholesale price of eggs hit $5.45/dozen last week vs $1.70 a year ago.

I only buy fresh local eggs. Grandma had a chicken farm so I was spoiled at an early age to enjoy only fresh eggs.

I guess it isn't really a tax increase.

I’m thinking about buying a couple of chicks from Rural King if people can have 2 dogs well 2 laying hens would be the same. I’ll call them emotional and support in 12 weeks I figure I’ll be getting 14 eggs weekly.

About same here in UK.
Just paid $4.08 (£3.38) for a dozen extra large free range.
Avian flu still a problem here as well, then add the ever rising cost of feed grain, and you have the perfect storm.

Prices rising is largely a supply and demand issue. Pretty common especially lately. But things usually return close to normal in the long run.

Where is this place??

We Go to Gainesville every 3 weeks. Or south to costco and base. Mostly locally from a lady who has small coop. A year to get on wait list, buying dozen every week. She isn't taking new customers. Her medium eggs are $1.50 a dozen, and bigger than any large egg you buy in TV. You have to bring your own container.

I buy large if they are available, for regular cooking and medium for baking, because her XL is so big makes baking calculations difficult.

Wednesday Picked up case of Napa Cab at Trader Joe’s, sea scallops $15.99lb, and dozen eggs $1.79. Brown eggs were $1.99, and egg bites $2.99. Sprouts also has their free range eggs on sale.

The egg lady has medium eggs for $1.50, and as mentioned in someones previous post they are bigger than a normal large egg. For those who don’t buy local, yolks are extremely yellow/orange.

Cost to raise 2 chicks $16 a month (cheap food organic double). $48 plus chick’s cost until first egg. Happy chicken will lay 1 egg per day. Really cool coop in lanai and you are in business. Just don’t name them, not long down the road they are Sunday Supper:icon_hungry: I hated cleaning the coop as a child, our rooster was evil. But no worries no need for a rooster just to get eggs.:clap2:

According to the Trader Joe’s website the nearest TJ is in Orlando and eggs are $4.99 a dozen.

Hens are happier when there's a rooster. Without the rooster, the dominant hen will bully the others. So if you don't have a rooster, don't count on one egg every day.

I get the brands "Happy Eggs" and "Handsome Eggs" from Walmart. They're sold at Publix too but it's around a $2/dozen difference in price. I think I last paid $5 and change for the last dozen, last week. I haven't bought white eggs in over 30 years. Up north we lived around 20 minutes from a friend who had a farm, we got fresh eggs (unwashed, unrefrigerated) for $5/dozen, various colored shells, or duck eggs at $6/dozen. She's probably gone up in price by now.

Exactly. I was at Trader Joe's in Gainesville earlier this week and the large brown eggs are $4.99/dozen. Those prices quoted aren't even close to accurate.

I mean, you could just go online and check. I'm looking at the Walmart website. Here:
FARMHOUSE EGGS Cage Free Large Brown Grade A Eggs, 18 Count
(4.5)
4.5 stars out of 1038 reviews
1038 reviews
$4.26
23.7 ¢/ea

You can pick them up in the Summerfield store (that's on 441, the one you can get to by golf cart through the historic section gate). That's $4.28 per 18. That comes to $2.84/dozen, but you have to buy 18 to get that price.

It appears that inflation is self-sustaining. Stores that sell eggs may have a legitimate reason to raise the price. But, if it is a known fact that the overall inflation rate is 8 percent, then anyone who sells anything can raise their prices by at least 8 percent for no reason at all. That is why inflation is so difficult to reduce.

I ordered 1 doz. eggs through Kroger Delivery just this past week for $3.89 That was their cheapest as the price went over $4.00. Having own chicks might be an idea but it's not allowed here PLUS they tend to stink. Chicken and pig farms have that reputation. I would purchase from someone who does have eggs for sale as fresh are better than store-bought.

Do some research. Eggs are high in cost because of a spreading bird flu - killed egg laying hens. Solution for restaurants - don't serve eggs or meals that contain eggs. Worker shortage - pay employees a living wage. Otherwise, get out of the restaurant business.

We have been spoiled by cheap egg prices in the past - a dozen eggs for $1.44 is 12c each!

The average large egg weighs around 2oz so a dozen weighs 24oz.

24oz of bacon in WalMart costs around $7.50 so almost double the cost per pound of eggs.

Then again, bacon is four times as tasty as eggs...

Last month the price of a dozen eggs in the US exceeded the cost of a pound of hamburger.

Eggs cost $4.82 a dozen while a pound of hamburger cost $4.64.

We buy maybe a dozen eggs every couple of weeks $4.00 isn't hurting our pocket book.
Don't worry about restaurants they buy in bulk and receive a better price. Recently returned from Ct breakfast 3eggs, 6 pieces bacon, grilled home fries, toast, coffee $12.

San Diego California is even more expensive. $6.79 a dozen at Walmart. The price gouging is everywhere, not just all of Florida. Homosassa and Inverness (almost $5) are pricey too, just like Ocala. Eggs aren’t cheap anymore.

It's amazing how much of the general public doesn't realize that their local restaurants are almost never buying their food supplies at a retail store like Publix. I heard that really big customers like cruise ships are paying SYSCO even less than what they charge most companies.

That may be true but not too long ago those sdame 15 dozen eggs from Sysco to a restaurant were less than a dollar a dozen. It is all relative.
