My daughter is here on College break. Since we recently moved here she doesn't know anyone. Is there a group she can meet with to hang with people her own age?

Maybe try Margarita Republic at night. After dinner it turns into a nightclub with mostly younger people. A lot of people that work in the restaurants etc. I believe there are others but not sure where.

I know you are trying to do what is best for your child, has your daughter actually asked you to help her find people to hang with?

There is a facebook group called the villages young adults for adult children living in the villages. It has the Saved By the Bell tag on the cover for the group.

I totally agree with this. She may just enjoy hanging with family, but definitely don't send her to Margarita Republic.

my daughter met her friends mostly on the fb page mentioned, & @ the family pools. once she got a job nearby she really built a 'friend base'. it's tough, some young people don't even want to show their faces, for their own reasons.

All the young people I used to know were left to their own devices...with restrictions. my parents would never try to find people my age for me and I wouldn't want them to. why do you?

Parents just want to help direct her. Not so bad as long as they just turn over the info to her and leave her to find her own social life

What is wrong with Margarita Republic? Friends of ours daughters go there every time they visit and seem to like it late night.

First of all, welcome! I too spent my first years here with our youngest son still at university. He came and went during breaks. I was worried a bit about his isolation. He made terrific friends however, with an older couple next door. They had worked in the science field he was pursuing. My son used his time here to visit with us but kept in touch with his friends online.
I guess I didn’t answer your specific question, but just wanted encourage and welcome you to TV.

I'm assuming since your daughter is in collage, she is at least 18. If that is the case, have you asked her what she would like to do with her time here. I think that would be good for starters.

While not exactly "hanging" there is plenty to do if she is active: Race high-speed go karts on a 0.9 mile road coarse at Bushnell Motor Sports; ride horses on well-groomed trails at Blue Moon Ranch; paddle kayaks on beautiful waterways at Silver Springs State Park (best) or Griffin State Park; swim with the manatees in Crystal River; shoot baskets at the Eisenhower Recreation Center; try your hand at pickle ball at any of the available courts; take a hike on any of the well-groomed trails in local state parks; or participate in a socially-oriented game of kickball or water volleyball.

Retreads Strategy Board Games meets from 6-9:20 pm on Mondays at El Santiago rec ctr. Varied crowd, but some younger Villagers & guests do attend on occasion & fit in well. Individuals (some with huge collections of games) bring games, so changes each week. Usually group divides into 2 or 3 different games going simultaneously, such as Ticket to Ride, Azul, Zombicide, Port Royal, etc.

Too many late night incidents over the years. It's not a place I would want my children going to later in the evening. Just my opinion.

All the groups are geared for members who are 55 and older.

She must use the family pools at the Rec Centers if she is under 30 years old

Start with the kids drinking too much , the 3 block speeding motorcycle ride, and a young female thrown into a tree and killed. Anything else your friend wants to know, Google it.

that's good because it's where the young people go. she'd have the best chance of finding friends there

Sports pools are restricted to residents only, 30 years old or older. So no water sports for her.

Our son came with us in August to DeLuna, works from home, goes to the gym, weekends doing things with us. Takes time to meet people when work takes up a lot of your time. Will buy his own house and get friends once that happens. No pressure from us.

Kind of wondering where this is attempting to go. I would not recommend the bar scene to anyone, especially young adults. This is a senior age community, not a vacation resort....just saying. However, there are organized sports at several rec centers. If they hang out at pickleball when it's open to all levels, they WILL get asked if they would like to play. I am sure there are other areas of sports in the Villages that will welcome anyone visiting. Hang out with young folks their own age? Like I said, this IS a senior community so if they wish to integrate with older folks, most of us welcome their VISIT as a guest.
Personally, and not trying to change the subject, I wish they had rules they would enforce regarding rentals here. I would like them to make limitations on ages allowed to rent homes in the Villages. Some folks (young and otherwise) seem to think renting in the Villages is better than paying for a stay at a resort.

If she's under 21, then any suggestions for bar scenes is a moot point since the drinking age in Florida is 21.

There really isn't any place where teenagers congregate /in/ the Villages, because there aren't any teenagers living /in/ the Villages. There are no amenities designed with teenagers in mind; the family pools are designed for all ages, without special consideration to teens/college age kids (no diving board, no kiddie pool to keep the diaper aged kids separated, etc).

There are some teen centers outside the Villages but they are for residents of the towns, not for grandkids of Villagers coming in for a week break from elsewhere.

The Facebook group might be of help, but proceed with caution, because Villagers aren't the only people who know about these groups and predators are everywhere.

This thread's topic and many of the responses don’t make a lot of sense.
Visiting children and grand children come here to be with family if the wanted to hang with/associate with their own age the would have gone to one of the beach towns.
To suggest to this daughter she go to a bar is ludicrous……
Like I said earlier, looking forward to the responses, they were as I expected.
