Coming down to TV for a week to look at homes, I would like to play golf a time or two, I am very flexible on time and course. Do I need an activity pass if I just want to play a round or two during the week? or can I just pay a fee and get on an executive course or pitch n putt?

Are you staying in TV? If you are then you are either renting, or staying as someone's guest. In either case you would get either a renter's ID (which entitles you to anything the owner, who has to give up his/her pass for you to get one, would be entitled to), or if a guest, your host can arrange a guest pass for you.
If you are staying with TV's "Lifestyle Visit", they'll take care of you.

If you are staying outside of TV, and just motoring onto the premises, I'm not sure what you can do. I don't think you can use any of the amenities, since you aren't in any way participating in the expense of maintaining them. I think the Championship courses are available on some basis for "non-resident, non-guest" status, since they aren't an amenity funded activity.
Music on the squares is open to the public.

If you don't have a pass you cannot play the executive courses. You are able to pay the non resident rate at the Championship courses, however. You will need to call the courses the day you want to play and see if there is any available tee times.

If you have a guest resident pass, you are okay.
I think you’ll pay greens fees ($11) and trail pass ($4) on executives.
Once you have the ID number, you’ll be able to make tee times.

I think your owner (or realtor) can get you the number before you arrive

I would think that the renter's ID has all the privileges of the owner, so he would only have to pay the $4 trail fee if using a cart, and would get the resident rate on championship courses.

I think you are right, i think the renter’s ID costs $50 - so that makes sense.

A "guest" pass is different. You can play pickle, use the amenities (but not a sports pool), and you will pay some fees that a resident wouldn't pay, and higher greens fees at the championship courses.

Just in case it’s not clear. The $50 is for the transfer of either or both of the residents ID’s. It’s not $50 each. We rent our home out with that fee included in our charges. Other landlords don’t include that fee. If you only intend to play twice, there is not too much financial advantage in having the residents ID. Except - at this time of year courses are hard to get on and there is a hierarchy within the booking system if booking more than 3 days ahead. Expect some limited availability if not booking that far ahead. You will have seen from all the replies that people in The Villages are generally a nice helpful bunch. So have a fantastic taste of Village life during your visit.

this is high season. very crowded in the courses. You may not get the tee times or courses of your choice. Be prepared to have many choices.

Get in touch with The Villages and take the lifestyle package. If you go on your own and decide to buy you will miss out on a lot of free bonus things. We moved here in 2001 and got free meals, 4 movie tickets, etc. I don't know what they offer now, but it is worth it. I love it here more than when I first moved here.
