If there is, there shouldn’t be. That is only to be accessed by car or truck by Villagers.

No, and given the history of how this development was denied to The Villages, I don't think there ever will be.

If the village of Stu would have come to fruition golf carts could have easily gone anywhere in Trailwinds. Alas it is not going to happen.

PS: Would have also gotten TJ's and Costco as part of the deal.

You can get to the Lowes on 441 but not the one you want to go to. It is too bad though.

I see golf carts crossing back into the Villages over 466A by Culvers sometimes. It's been making me wonder what the fine would be, or if it could lead to more than just a simple fine.

Crossing a 45 mph road in a golf cart can lead to more than a simple fine.

A couple years ago, a guy tried to leave The Villages hospital and cross 441 in a golf cart. He was killed in a traffic accident.

I have a street legal golf cart and regularly cross 466A at Pinellas Pl near Culver's. Then I drive to the back of the development and over to Publix, Starbucks, Aldis, Lowes, etc. Can't drive on 466A though. Street legal golf carts are only supposed to cross roads with speeds higher than 35 MPH at signaled intersections.

I would think that if a cop sees a golf cart anywhere in Trail winds or Belmont, all he needs to do is follow them out of the property and issue a ticket. As far as I know there’s no legal access to those property’s by golf cart.

The Villages GPS shows a golf cart route south through the 466a tunnel, west along Pinellas and then back across 466a (near the Marathon gas station) to Trailwinds. I have not noticed an access but will look for one tomorrow.

That path does NOT exist, I live in that area, NO legal access to Trailwinds from TV. There is a sign before the gas station by the villages health that states "NO GOLF CARTS BEYOND THIS POINT". The occasional golf cart MIGHT be from the homes or apartments in that are part of the property.

CORRECT

And reason-----the city council of Wildwood are all primarily party X, and 5,000 new voters within their city limits would be voting Y, so they would unemployed. Therefore, no approval for TV to develop that land.

I never suggested it was legal to drive a cart on 466A, not really sure where you got that from post. That being said, by golf cart, take Pinellas to 466A. If you’re street legal, you can cross 466A. The road becomes Penrose Place. Once you cross 466a you have legal access to all of the shops and locations in Trailwinds.

There is no path from TV to Lowes on 466A. There is no path because TV did not want to have an opening that could be used by anyone. The Villages wanted to buy that land and build a village. There were Villages backing up right there. That a path would have to go through.

Wildwood and Lady Lake should look to the solution Viera FL (near Melbourne) has to golf cart travel in that area. If adapted by either city it would increase the customer base for many of their businesses. Our son's family probably uses their golf cart even more than we use ours.

Since you say it is not legal to drive a street legal cart on 466A, how do you plan to cross 466A?

Do you own and operate a golf cart? If so, is that golf cart “Street Legal”? (AKA a LSV) if so, “ 316.2122 Operation of a low-speed vehicle on certain roadways.–The operation of a low-speed vehicle, as defined in s. 320.01(42), on any road as defined in s. 334.03(15) or (33), is authorized with the following restrictions:

A low-speed vehicle may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. This does not prohibit a low-speed vehicle from crossing a road or street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour.

There’s a difference between crossing over vs driving on

Does anyone know what extra is required to make a Villages golf cart to be classified as LSV? Seems like just adding a tag and registering the VIN? Not sure about the expense. I don't mind if it requires paperwork.

To me I might find that worth it to be able to visit Trailwinds in my golf cart.

Given that the speed limit is 45 MPH on 466A and that golf carts (even "street legal" ones) aren't allowed on roads (even just crossing them) with speed limits higher than 35 MPH, I would strongly suggest not emulating that cart driver.

At one time I saw a list, but as I recall:
Headlights, turn signals, 4 wheel brakes, seat belts, additional mirrors, safety glass windshield, windshield wiper(?), will need to be insured LIKE A CAR ($$$), and limited to 25 MPH. There may be other requirements, IMHO, call the local police department and ask them.

Your "wrong" is WRONG. :). They (street legal carts) are "aloud" I mean "allowed" :) When my cart was SL (it isn't any longer) I had been crossing 441, 44, 466 & 466A multiple times for 3 years after checking with Sumter County sheriff's office. You can't DRIVE on it (along it) but you can CROSS IT at an intersection with a traffic light. You can't drive ON 466, 466A, 441 etc as speed limit is over 35 but you can CROSS it . This was confirmed by a Sumter county lieutenant at a meeting of a golf cart club about a few years ago.

Also, just as a data point, 466A turns into a 35mph road after Powell so you can go through Pinellas, go right down Powell by the Library (35mph), then left on 466a where it now becomes 35mph then go left up 301 (as that is also 35mph). Just a fun fact.

Come to think of it (although I haven't checked because I am no longer street legal), but it seems that by going down Powell you could probably cross straight over 466A again into the new area and work your way back to Lowes/Publix and the new restaurants. Kinda silly to do it as it would be a lot easier in a car because you have to go so far out of your way.

You can also work your way there without going on 466A by making a LEFT on Powell out of the mall and taking a right off Powell onto (I forgot the name. got it: Huey Street :) ) a back road over to 301 then cross 301 right into Sambos at the "Antique Mall/Ace Hardware" mall. LOTS of places you can go as street legal but paying close to $1000 for golf cart (LSV) insurance wasn't worth it so I had it "decommissioned."
