Sumter County residents who wish to discard any hazardous waste may do so on Saturday, Jan. 28 as a part of the county’s amnesty day. I'm not sure I read the article correctly, but it made it sound like the hazardous materials were incinerated. So what's the difference from our normal garbage that gets incinerated?

They also take out the precious metals and recycle them. Paints and chemicals are also disposed of safely. This is a safer way to dispose of Alkaline batteries which can ignite inside a garbage truck....they have been known to bring down a UPS plane or two. Not everyone cares, but if you do, this is a great way to dispose of the bad stuff.
