Anyone Use Centric Fiber Internet?

Greetings everyone. Apologies if this has been discussed before, but a search didn't return any hits.

We are in the process of buying a new home in Newell and I'm looking into the options for internet service. During the electronic signing of the contract, an offer for Centric Fiber internet came up. Other discussion on this forum have discussed Xfinity, Spectrum, etc, but not Centric.

Anybody here have Centric?

Never heard of this company, I did an internet search and came up with some information, sounds like a new player in the southern area. I did not do a lot of research, and i have no idea if you have other options where you are located.

Here in MN there is only one in an area plus maybe DSL.

Yes. In some areas you have a choice of CenturyLink (rebranded as QuantumFiber in the areas serviced by fiber optic), Spectrum, and Comcast, along with some cell-based internet providers.

A pretty good price right now is QuantumFiber at 200 megabits per second upload and download for $30 per month, including all fees and taxes, if you are in their service area.

Price seems pretty good for 1 gig speeds.

Cable TV, in most parts of the US, are limited to 2 providers per area. Internet providers don't have the same restriction. "Broadbandnow" lists 9 internet providers in The Villages. See this link (https://broadbandnow.com/Florida/The-Villages?zip=32163). However, I don't know how many are actually available in the area you want to move to. The village we live in has pre-buried service for 2 providers. I don't know how service gets to your home if not one of those two.

We have Quantum Fiber norther of 466A, only $30 a month and never had an outage. Love it. No installation fee either.

As I understand it Fiber optic would be faster, however people CLAIMING they have fiber optic I would check if it is fiber optic all the way. A few feet of fiber optic would be like a six inch hose going into a garden hose. The water cannot, does not flow any faster than a garden hose.

As far as spectrum and xfinity should a QUALITY company enter OUR market they will both be OUT. They are both expensive and repairs STINK.

The adventure. Our home is 9 years old. Neighbor having a swimming pool put in they cut the cable. Repair was like an adventure of the three stooges. I told them what the problem was. Waited several days without, triple play, no internet, no phone, no TV, for them to send somebody. It is a SUBCONTRACTOR. He said what I told them, the cable was cut. He could only repair the home to the line. Several days later they sent the line guys. They ran a cable to the box crossing two neighbors property but didn't bury it. Can't help it. Did they not call the third contractor to bury the wire? A neighbor called me complaining about an unburied cable. I assumed it was trash just left behind and told him to cut it and toss it. We were again without cable service for days. Oh and our cable is black. One of the many repair guys told me it is the wrong cable to bury. The proper cable to bury is brown. Has been working for 3-4 years now.

I've wondered before THE VILLAGES is far more powerful than any one customer. I expect if we bought together we would get both lower rates and better service.

We had DSL, the one that goes over the phone lines, many, many years ago. I think it is about as current as dial phones. It was so slow, I would regularly be cut off on websites.

THE VILLAGES is well HUGE. When we first moved in 10 years ago. We were told there were two providers in our area. I called one, ours was newly built, we were told they did and then told they did not provide service to our area.

Most internet / cable wires go from the common box to your house entrance laid just under the sod when laid. The cable is not protected, so there are times where the cable can be cut by mowers, or other activities.

Our cable was cut when the house next door was constructed. Spectrum came out late that day and repaired the line as well as I bought several pieces of galvanized pipe to protect the cable in case of erosion, etc so that any digging activity in the area will not cut the wire without a lot of effort.

The pipe was also sunk about 6 inches below the sod root level to keep it from easily getting uncovered. .

So anytime you have an issue with cable, you should consider protecting the cable coming into the house by having the contractor protect the cable line in a galvanized pipe and rebury the line at least 3 inches to 6 inches below the sod roots

Coax cable to the house, the last 100 feet or perhaps last mile, running DOCSIS can provide high bandwidths - you can get a gigabit per second, or better. The trunks are probably fiber. However, I think one of the big advantages of fiber to the house is that you get a dynamic IP address at the wall plate via an RJ-45 ethernet jack - you don't need a "modem" inside the house (the "modem" capabilities, which includes signal conversion from fiber to copper based ethernet, are typically handled by the ONT box on the outside of your house). You can plug any computer, VoIP device, or router into the RJ-45 jack. You don't need to be concerned about a list of compatible "modems".

Regarding new providers, who owns the cables in the ground? Best hopes for additional competition will probably come from cell providers who are just now beginning to offer 5G based internet service to the home.

Just moved here a month ago. Centric called me about service and offered 2 months free with no contract. Why wouldn’t I try it? Had a small issue when I moved in but they sent a tech out the same day free of charge. Also helped me program my tv’s. So far I love it and recommend it. Far better than the providers I’ve had in the past.

Centric is fiber all the way to the router and modem above the fridge. Super fast....loving it. Also, VP of operations for Centric was driving down the street and stopped to ask if everything was working good and if I was happy with their service? Gave me is personal card. This company is great with customer service so far.

Just signed up for Centric and service will start on April 26. We are in a new build home in Newell. We just need wi-fi so interested to see how Centric works with all of our devices plus streaming.

We also recently bought a home in Newell and signed up for Centric Fiber. Two months free and its month to month. We just used the Internet service. Made a call and they emailed us a password and everything worked fine. The house was already to go, they didn't even have to come.
