Several weeks ago Titleist introduced their new 2023 Pro V1 and Pro V1X. At the same time they increased their price to $55 a dozen. At the recent Golf Festival I inquired if they had the new Pro V1 balls in stock. The answer was no not yet. So I was going to settle for the last year model but the pro shops have increased the price on last years balls to the same as the new ones which they do not have in stock yet. Just want all to be aware just because you get to pay the new price doesn't mean you are getting the newest technology.

I've played 150 rounds of golf in The Villages this year and I've yet to play with anyone whose game justifies (or will be improved) by playing $55/Dozen golf balls.
To say nothing of the fact, that Titleist doesn't recommend Pro V1 or V1X's for 98% of golfers. The recommended swing speed to benefit from a Pro V1 is 98 mph-105 mph. Hardly typical in TV (or anywhere else for that matter).

I live on Havana course in front of me is a Par 3 88-120 yd. approx. hole. 90% of the golfers going by never reach the green off the tee. Women seem to be better than men at least on this hole. I doubt a. $5 golf ball would help.

You can play 350 rounds per year and you still won't find that player in TV.
I have the swing speed, but there are plenty of balls that compete (& beat) ProV's at half the price.

I play Chromesoft and FBs
Both types work just fine for me. Especially when I’m running low on my Chromesofts and need to switch to a FB especially troubling shots near water.
I then usually use a FB. Found Ball.

Maybe for some, this is a concern. For me, considering the number of balls I've hit into various water hazards around here, $55 a dozen would be a huge excess.
Along those lines, though...we do play a lot of tennis and there was a pretty significant tennis ball shortage that only recently has become somewhat alleviated. Along with the shortage were the inevitable hugely inflated prices, often on brands that I've never seen before. Lots of name-brand balls available now, but the prices are still significantly higher than pre-shortage.

When a decent shot misses a green or falls short into a trap you have no idea what role the quality of golf ball played in the outcome of the shot,
Go to mygolfspy.com and check out the ball lab or the performance testing. You will find that some expensive balls perform poorly and some mid priced balls perform well.

Big supply of Pro V1s at Sarasota for $50. The only technology change to 2023 may be the box cover. Try the second time around balls they sell for $9.99 a dozen and see if you can tell the difference.

I don't buy Pro V's of any breed, but use them when I find them. I hit my drives on average 210 -230 yrds, which certainly indicates I do not have the club head speed recommended, but I like the feel of the strike and the resulting distance i get. Don't like it enough to pay the price.

Buy Spaulding SD Tour balls. Same design as Pro V1 and available for about $20 Dozen (new).
Spaulding is now owned by Nitro and their balls are way more consistent than the Kirkland with a similar design. Probably the best value in golf balls right now.

Buy them re furbished at $20-$25 a dozen.
Manufacturers hate refurbished golf balls for several reasons, the first one being cutting into their new ball sales. The other being the re-painting of the balls which fills in the dimples and compromises the balls' aerodynamics. It may not fly as far and generates a negative result for the user of the brand. There have been balls sold that were painted and logoed as ProV1 that were not Titleist. And, older balls that have been sitting in a pond uptake moisture, making them slightly heavier and out of spec. This was mentioned in a Golf Digest article years ago, but may not be as much as true today due to different ball materials.

One person hitting a few shots and offering opinions on ball quality is not golf ball testing. It is about getting hits on the web site to garner advertising dollars. Very few organizations have attempted to use data, paired with hundreds of shots, to determine if golf ball marketing matches performance.
One organization does this — mygolfspy.com. Performance tests happen every two years. Lab testing is ongoing as new balls come out.

& more often than not, MyGolfSpy claims small, niche equipment companies have the best products. Those are the only companies MyGolfSpy accepts support money from.
I'm not suggesting their testing isn't fairly complete, but it's always been biased away from the major manufacturers.

Titleist dominates the ball performance testing and the ball lab testing. That is as major as it gets.
You may have a point if talking about ball retrievers or shoes. But clubs and balls are what most of us check out.
They are a golfer’s only chance to get an unbiased look at products without all of the glitzy marketing. Especially so if it is a start up company. One example being red rooster golf gloves.

For years I played mostly balls I found, largely to save a buck. I took about 10 years away from the game, and when came back in 2012 I decided to take one source of variability out of play, and decided to play only ProV1...or Pro V1 X. Actually it was more like I decided to BUY only ProV 1. I have played other balls if I find them.
My swing speed has really dropped as I approach my 70th birthday. I still like my ProV1s though. Mostly I like the feel around the greens.
The good side of a diminished swing speed is I lose fewer balls.
I have bought them used on eBay, and I've bought new balls when they have a promo deal. They are only new the first time you hit them.
In the scheme of things, playing the ball you like to play, is a small extravagance, especially compared to the other costs associated with the game.

Pro V1's at the Tampa Hardrock are 94$ a dozen with tax. So, 55$ aint bad. BUT, remember, it aint the arrow, its the shooter. All balls work, but all swings don"t. All balls work or tour payers would play the same ball. Find a ball that makes you happy and stay with it. No wrong answer here.......just like Ben and Jerry's

I choose to use a selection of different balls, depending on the lie, windage, distance and what I fished out of a pond when my previous shot went in the water. Never paid $55 or anything close to that for golf balls, though once I got a bag of 40 for $10 at Markets of Marion. Just sayin…

Callaway never made Kirkland Golf Balls. The original manufacturer for Kirkland was Nassau Golf in Korea, but some say the ball was actually made by Qingdao SM Parker in China. Nassau Golf also produced TaylorMade Golf balls.
Qingdao SM then took over production of Kirkland golf balls, in China.
It's now rumored that a company in Thailand is producing Kirkland golf balls.

I am an amazon shopper so I checked out the price there and it was $55 a dozen. Maybe it's time to switch brands but I know some golfers swear by titles. I am not a great golfer but I use Srixon at $35 a dozen - especially since I've been know to loose a ball or two. Some golfers in the neighborhood swear that used balls if rated good quality. I saw 50 titleist pro v1x 2014 for $93 in AAAA condition as an example.

Just want all to be aware just because you get to pay the new price doesn't mean you are getting the newest technology.
Golfballs.com has them and you can have your name and phone number imprinted so you can get them back if you lose one.

After seeing the original post, I did some further research. Golf balls have gotten a lot more complicated (or least they are marketed as such) in the past few years.
I had heard of Titleist Pro V1 and Titleist Pro V1x. Now they have added Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash and Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash RCT. The RCT stands for Radar Capture Technology. They also have Pro V1 left dot.
Are there any good golfers out there can explain the differences between the balls?
Are these legitimate differences or just a way to increase the cost for the newest ball?
I watch golf club commercials on television and every year, there is a new club designed to hit it farther and straighter - for about $500! I bought one years ago. It didn't work.

Golf equipment is one of the biggest scams around. I played high school golf, but now I may play one 9-hole round every 2 or 3 years. I have a set of clubs that I bought at K-Mart for $75, including the bag. Last year, my neighbor, who is younger than me, plays every day, and has very expensive equipment, invited me to play 9 holes. I beat him by 2 strokes. Go figure.

Left dash..............firmer, less spin.
RCT to be used with launch monitors.
Dot, lower launch
You will not notice the difference.

I would never pay $55 for any golf ball. My goal when buying golf balls is to get as many balls as I can for the cheapest price. They all end up in the woods or the water. Since you can’t look for them, I am not spending money on them.

Very detailed article on the RCT.
